  1. Forgive the double post if you will.

The mods are ready. My dual-monitor set-up is good to go, and everything is in order... Now I just need that new Mic! It should be coming in tomorrow, and then I'll need a bit of time to set it up. So expect this show to start in the next couple days... Assuming my Mic arrives on time, that is.

EDIT: Ok, so 2 things. 1) I completely forgot that Verdane under Batou is a Mod. 2) There is a 3-way tie between Archenea, Elibe, and Jugdral. If it remains tied until I start the LP, I'll take executive action and drop one of them.

EDIT 2: @eclipse, if it's alright, I think I'll just make a new thread, given I want to put another Poll up.

I'm told Venice is an "acquired taste" in Civ V, as in potentially quite weak due to being able to found only a single city. This said, it is one of the first civilizations I'd like to try in V because of the asymmetry. Although, Venice is oriented towards a Diplomatic Victory, maybe a Science Victory with a spaceship purchasing spree via Freedom (yes, I've read too much about a game I haven't played yet).

+400 Gold on turn 200. Why worry about many cities or use production when you can just buy everything? Of course, until you fill those trade routes, Venice is quite weak.

    Quote

The Senatorial Palace sounds very bad if you don't have duplicate Luxuries to go around, gotta keep everyone Happy. But if you do, well how much Gold are the other civs paying for them? Provided you can keep a balanced budget via other means, I think the tradeoff of Gold for Faith and Culture could be quite fair.

+10 Faith and +6 Culture permanently vs Maybe +7 Gold for 30/45 turns if you have a friend. I'd say most of the time the Palace is better.

    Quote

Itsuki sounds a little complicated, though his Sessions-referencing combat bonus could be strong. Fortuna Talent Branch being a Stadium replacement and therefore providing +2 Happiness, hmm... Order maybe? That Dictatorship of the Proletariat tenet could have synergy with a TMS Culture Victory. Although more Specialist slots and the Performa Tourism bonus means Freedom works too. And there could be some very niche fun with Autocracy's Cult of Personality if you have enough allies. Whilst being together at war with the rest of the world for that Tourism bonus, you exterminate your enemies with the Mirage Masters (if they can fight well enough), once they're all dead the Mirage Masters turn around and finish your quest for cultural hegemony by performing concerts for your wartime friends.

He has some manner of synergy with all the Ideologies. Mirage Masters are equal in strength to the Era's Infantry unit. They also get a pre-fight ranged attack, like the Zulu Impi. Pretty strong indeed, but fairly hard to get, what with them being Great People.

Whee, answers~!  Let me know when you start this LP and change the title accordingly.  I'll move it to Let's Plays then.

    M'k, thanks.

How many can we pick? I'll go with, in order of priorities from top to bottom.:

    • TMS#FE- Because I like it. The naysayers can be drowned in Tourism until they come to cherish it!

You can pick however many you want... Did I get the name wrong? TMS or SMT? Short summary below.

    Spoiler

Itsuki's trait grants a strength bonus to units the latter in the turn they move. He also gets a resource (Performa) that buff his unique building for each 5 population in his cities. His unit (Mirage Master Idol) is a Great Musician that can fight, and enter other Civ's lands without Open Borders. His building (Fortuna Talent Branch) is a Stadium that has 2 slots for musicians, and grants +1 Tourism for each 5 Performa he has.

    Quote

Thracia with Travant- He will try to unify more than just the peninsula (which will actually be a non-peninsular continent rich in truffles and incense), he'll unify the world!

    Spoiler

Trvant's abilities focus on Gold, Food, and Combat. His ability does the Gold and Food bits, his unit is a Flying unit and has a +70% bonus vs cavalry (Har dar, Quan dead jokes), and his building helps with Land and Air units and also buffs units that are purchased in the city.

    Quote

Goldoa- Dheginsea will not let Goldoa's borders be moved! Would-be dominators can die trying.

    Spoiler

More or less, yeah. His cities and units gain huge defensive bonuses, his first unit is a stronger Musketman, and his second is a improved Gatling Gun.

    Quote

Khadein with Gharnef- Don't worry, he isn't interested in conquering the known world anymore, he wants to conquer the unexplored planets near Alpha Centari.

    Spoiler

Ha, about that... How does a Crossbowman with 100 Melee strength sound? +87 strength, yikes. Melee it at your own peril.

    Quote

Rhea- Faith is the other great currency in Civ. I'd think she'd have bonuses for religion. Plus, doesn't she have nukes or something in 3H? Civ Memebot Gandhi's BFF if thats the case.

    Spoiler

Rhea's a bit like Faith-Venice, with all that implies. No Settlers, Prophets can obtain City-States, and get a Prophet when you get Calendar. Her unit (Knight of Seiros) is stronger near their Religion's cities, and the building is a National College that allows the training of 'Students", units that can be expended to grant unique Promotions to units.

Ok, I'm going to have to check and see how much Rhea likes Nukes. I'll get back to you on that.

EDIT: Civ5 Rhea’s a nutcase! She’s equally likely to befriend a City-State as she is to attack it, and is highly deceptive towards other Civs. She’s passably loyal, but entirely unforgiving. She also has Nuking levels similar to Ghandi… Uh oh.

    Quote

Neo-Fang- Because Raigh and Lugh leading a country sounds totally adorable! Let the power of true brotherhood guide the course of international cooperation and diplomacy!

    Spoiler

Not for Diplomacy, for SCIENCE! And also for Faith, I guess.

    Quote

Begnion with Sephiran- Because of Tellius bias and specifically Sephiran bias, and because it's Rome-like in terms of its dominance of a continent. Gotta have a Rome.

    Spoiler

Sephiran's ability is like the Aztec's, but with Faith. The unit is the Holy Guard, a flying Knight that diswades enemies from converting your cities, and he also gets the Senatorial Palace. The Palace is a interesting improvement, it consumes a Luxury but grants a lot of Faith and Culture.

    Quote

Divine Dragons with Naga- I have a dire urge to know whether the greatest dragon nay greatest being in all of FE is an adherent of Freedom, Order, or Autocracy. I will henceforth change my own political alignment to hers'.

    Spoiler

Looking at her Bonuses, I'd say Freedom. But we'll just have to see, won't we?

I have no idea what any of the Civilization Unique Abilities are, I'm making slight Civ-influenced jibes because why not?😀

I haven't played Civ 5 yet, only VI on Switch, but maybe sometime later this year if I get a second laptop specifically for gaming I will. I do really want to try the nearest predecessor, going meaningfully tall sounds fun its own way, less early stress about Settler spamming. Watching some FE mods of V is good to me.

    Heheheh... Jolly good fun, eh?

I've played a little of 6, it's.. Odd, but acceptable. 5 has it's problems, but I much prefer it.

What do these mods do?  How will they make your life easier/harder?  Will you turn this thread into your LP once you have enough choices?  How do giant robots fit into this?

    1) These mods add FE Characters as nation-leaders. 2) It will not. It's more for the entertainment of fighting, say, Arvis while playing as Ashnard. 3) Yea, probably.

    256?cb=20190910194222

    4) Giant. Death. Robots.

"The "mech" is a giant bipedal mechanical robot armed with a variety of missiles, Gatling gun arms, laser-beam eyes and a deadly kung-fu punch. Although not currently found on the modern battlefield, no doubt across the world governments and evil corporations are secretly developing these metal behemoths even as we speak. When these mechs come into service, all of the world's other weaponry will become obsolete, and humanity's fate will be decided by a climactic battle between armies of good and evil mechs in the streets of downtown Tokyo. (Assuming that the giant radioactive monsters don't get us first.)" - Civopedia, Civilization 5.

Those mods look sick! I'm a little disappointed in how few choices there are for Fodlan, but other than that it's a really cool idea. Do these mods also contain a unique unit and ability for each civ? I voted Jugdral and Elibe. I personally would play Agustria as Ares

The Civ5 FE Modders are an ambitious bunch, they are. It's cause TH came out not to long ago, and some of the aforementioned Modders have moved onto Civ6.

All these mods contain a leader with an unique ability and at least 2 unique units/buildings. Ares is fun. Not quite as broken as certain other Civs, but still strong.

  5. This should be good. Let's see how this ends up... Here are the Leaders in the sets:

Archenea - Aurelis (Harden), Dolhr (Medeus), Grust (Lorenz, Yubello), Altea (Prince Marth), Pyrathi (Manu), Divine Dragons (Gotoh, Naga), Archenea (Emperor Hardin, Nyna, King Marth), Gra (Jiol, Sheena), Macedon (Michalis), Talys (Caeda), Khadein (Arlen, Gharnef)

Elibe - Bern (Zephiel, Narcian, Guinivere), Pherae (Eliwood), Neo-Fang (Lugh & Raigh), Nabata (Igrene, Sophia), Eturia (Pent, Louise, Percival, Cecilia), Kutolah (Dayan), Sacae (Lyn), Lycia (Roy), Black Fang (Nino, Ursula, Reed Brothers), Ostia (Hector, Lilina)

Fates - Valla (Azura, Corrin), Merchants (Funke), Nohr (Leo, Nyx, Xander), Hoshido (Ryoma, Mikoto), Flame Tribe (Rinkah), Nacht Clan (Nichol)

Fodlan - Church of Seiros (Rhea), Aegir (Ferdinand), Adrestia (Edelgard), Liberation Army (Nemesis), Almyra (Claud), Nabatea (Sothis)

Heroes - Vice Askr (Lif), Hel, Nifl (Fjorm), Askr (Gustav, Alfonse, Sharena), Dokkalfheimr (Freyja), Muspell (Surtr), Embla (Veronica)

Jugdral - Agustria (Ares, Chagal), Chalphy (Sigurd), Velthomer (Arvis), Grannvale (Seliph), Loptyr Empire (Julius), Leonster (Quan), Isaach (Shannan), Nordion (Eldigan, Lachesis), Thracia (Travant, Leif), Fiana (Eyvel), Munster (Raydrik), Silesse (Lewyn, Ced)

Magvel - Frelia (Innes, Tana), Jehenna (Ismaire, Joshua), Carcino (Rennac), Rausten (L'Arachel), Grado (Lyon), Renais (Ephraim, Eirika)

    SMT FE - Fortuna (Itsuki)

Telluis - Talrega (Haar, Jill), Begnion (Sephiran, Sanaki), Phoenicis (Tibarn), Goldoa (Dheginsea, Kurthnaga), Hatari (Nailah), Tanas (Oliver), Crimea (Elincia), Daein (Ashnard, Micaiah), Gallia (Caineghis), Serenes (Leanne)

Valentia - Zofia (Celica, Mila, Python & Forsyth), Valentia (Alm), Rigel (Berkut, Rinea, Rudolf), Bandits (Grieth)

Ylisse - Future Ylisse (Lucina), Chon'sin (Say'ri), Ylisse (Emmeryn, Chrom, Robin), Regna Ferox (Basilio & Flavia & Lon'qu), Plegia (Gangrel, Validar), Grimleal (Grima), Valm (Walhart)

If you see a '&', then it means it's a duo Leader. You can choose more than one of the sets. I'll probably take the top 30 or so Civs.

  6. I'm not sure whether to place this here, or in general gaming. I'm planning on Let's Playing some Civ5 with FE Mods (Hence why I'm putting this on SF at all).

This is some ground work. I'm rather curious as to whether or not anyone on SF is interested in this little hobby of mine. If so, expect more polls in the days to come.

The map size should remain the same, it's part of the game's identity and what makes it unique. If you're gonna just turn FE4 into a typical FE game like any other, why bother remaking it? They're part of what helps set the game apart from other games in the series whether you enjoy them or not.

    This. Just... this.

    Quote

What i think should be done about the maps instead is changing tile and enemy layouts, as well as adding some changes to make the sections where you need to backtrack less time-consuming. There are many parts in FE4 where you will have to spend two to three turns literally just moving all of your units to get them close to where the next castle and small group of enemies is. Chapter 2 is specially bad about this with all those forest tiles near the beginning. Spreading the enemy armies out more and changing the terrain layout to make movement from one section to another quicker can help alleviate the time-consuming nature of the large maps without downscalling them.

I agree, but given how faithful IS has been with all its remakes, that probably will not happen. Look at Shadow Dragon, FE12, or SoV. In every case, they've proven themselves too faithful. Faithful to the point of detrimentally affecting the game. Mostly map design, but other things too.

  8. Lost my Heroes account back in... What was it October? I think that's when. Anyways, I got back into it back in December. Doing decently, despite my F2P-ing. I did have atrocious luck on the Legendary Banner in December, getting only 5 Heroes despite burning ~400 Orbs. The new "Bundle last year's Heroes into the new seasonals" does kill my enthusiasm for Seasonals a bit.

  9. 1- Finish up my current playthrough of Octopath Traveler.

2- Get back into Let's Playing Civ5, maybe play some of the many FE Civ mods (Stopped because my Mic broke, and then I lost my YouTube channel). Also get back into Modding Civ5. I don't care if it's an old game, it's still great!

3- Maybe attempt 112% and All Achievements Hollow Knight.

    9. I'd like to buy a new-to-me game in an unfamiliar franchise. I was thinking Catherine: Full Body, but I've also heard lots of good things about HadesHollow Knight, and Cuphead. Yeah, I realize these are all over the place in style and substance. So let's just say purchase, and play, a totally novel gaming experience.

I very highly recommend Hollow Knight. It's an absolute gem of a game. Latter on the bosses get... Well hard is an understatement. The big 3 especially. I'm spoilering this, it doesn't spoil the story or bosses, just a little forewarning about the aforementioned big 3.

    Quote

1 is highly patterned but very fast, lose your pace and you'll get ran over. Very fun fight, however, and very satisfying when you do beat it.

2 is both fast and brutal, with little pattern. It's also at the end of a small Boss rush.

3 is just BM, it's not as fast, but it's hard to tell what attack is what, except for 1 move having a sound tell, and the others can be seen before they fire. The biggest problem is the fact that you have a major boss rush before it, and losing to any of them boots you out of the entire thing. Vexing, but satisfying.

It wasn't in the script. It might not have even happened in the book, and thus, they didn't put it in the film.

I dabbled a little in LotR lore a long time ago, but I remember it does happen in the book. Of course, in said book, the dagger the Hobbit stabbed him with was specifically made to kill wraiths, so that may have something to do with it.

News on a game that isn't Heroes content or a port would be appreciated.

Yea. Heroes news is a big mixed bag. I honestly don't know why they dropped a surprise port of an ancient game, however. I mean, I'm not against it, but I'd rather they use their time one something other than translating a nearly 30 year old game.

Semi-off topic but it's a thing I've been wondering about (Since Thracia/Genealogy seems to get much darker than most FE games from what I hear and I've seen people say it'd probably get censored.), would you rather Genealogy/Thracia be censored or have the age rating bumped up compared to other FE games if it came down to that?

Bump it up. Genealogy lives off it's story. Take it away and what do you have? Big, bloated maps.

As stated, not everyone is going to have access to Awakening, and second, I honestly think that Great Lord is lackluster for the fact that getting it can be a pain in the ass.

I know. But when it's available, get it. It's one of the best skills in the game.

Take the generals out in player phase while staying outside Berserker's Range after Entrapping hans and Killing his friends.

There's no unit that can survive the Enemy phase onslaught in that room.

Agreed. A fighting retreat is best to deal with that. Entrap helps... some.

  13. Depends on which game we're talking about. Ancient era FE (FE 1-3), Sprite era (4-8), 3D (9, 10, 13-16), or psuedo-3D (11 & 12)? Ancient is bleh. 3D- Telluis is excellent, 13 & 14 are meagre in comparison (with the exception of 13's Hero). Psuedo-3D is alright. Sprites are love, Sprites are life! Especially FE8's Great Knight.

As for what they add... It's mostly flavor. Aesthetically pleasing, you might say. As long as they're fast or over-the-top, it's great. Fast as in NOT FE9, and over-the-top as in Jugdral's & Telluis's S-rank Tomes.

As for skipping, if I just want the map to be over, then skip away.

How does one avoid Lunge when you EP the very enemy that Lunges you? Think Kazes fun room in chapter 11 - unless the answer is don´t go into the room.

Lunge is the only exception, and a blasted annoying one at that. You can avoid it, AKA 'the answer is don´t go into the room', or Player Phase it. I recommend the latter in such circumstances.

Don't go sleeping on Awakening! It comes late, but oi is it strong when you get to play with it. That and it melds well with Vantage. If only Wrath existed in Fates... Then we'd have some real fun.

EPing the game is a good way to (miss your counterattack [optional]), get debuffed, lose 20-40% HP, get lunged and then be murdered. But to each their own.

Missing is part of the game, Debuffs are life in Fates, I assume that is refering to Poison Strike/Grisly Wound/Savage Blow which are in fact BS, Lunge is a skill and can thus be seen and avoided. You want to Player phase everything, then you do you.

One Brave weapon costs 8000 (As mentioned, Lightning is way cheaper). That´s 2 Silvers and 4 Steels.

And it´s 8 Irons. That´s four (+1´s). That´s two (+2´s). That´s one (+3). Additionally it costs at max 11 and at min 8 smithing ressources when you have access to one random ressource and they exchange 5:1. And the Arena is all up for some randomized chances.

Close enough, given the stat difference between +3 and +4 are negligible.

As for resources, you can always go castle visiting. Unless I missed Nintendo discontinuing the online functions, that is.

  16. We're arguing about Braves now? M'k.

Honestly, I don't like Braves in Fates. They're good for player-phasing. But past that, I feel like they're overpriced and underpowered. For the cost of 1 brave, you can get a tier 4 Iron, which is more useful given enemy-phasing is so prevalent in this game. I know Braves are good for boss-killing, but to me, they're rarely worth the cost.

Even with Dancing Blade he wasn't fast enough to double alot of enemies early on and that lead to him falling off pretty damn hard, since he still had bad ATK

Grrr... Why Silas? You where made for better than this...

Of course, even with his skills, I doubt he could really keep up with that abomination of stats that is Elise. Or Nyx Staff Savant. To much OP leaves little room for anything else.

  19. While I do like the idea, I know IS will most assuredly butcher it. Last time they rammed an Avatar into a remake, we got Kris...

If it's a good Avatar, then I'd like it. Good as in

    A) not a silent protag. Either thay are their own character that we can change a little bit of*, or they give us meaningful dialog options.

Or B) a minor character like Alec, Lex, or the like. Someone who's not terribly important, but is still there.

*As much as I dislike it, Corrin was the closest FE has come to what I'd call a good Avatar: They're their own person who is minorly changed by the player.

Effie has a decent base but meh 50% growth, and that requires her to stay a Knight. Keaton has other issues, mostly nonexistant Skill and Res. Beruka's just underwhelming.

And no, I didn't mean Res. Xander has pretty bad Res, while Benny is decisively tanky in every way he can be (31+70% Hp, 19+75% Def, 10+45% Res, and Wary Fighter).
