The standard looks more like a pegasus now, which actually isn't any worse. Interesting shading on the fur, looks nice.
As for the new sprite...it just...looks a little bit weird with the free hand up like that.

So something like this, then, for inspiration?

Anyway, I'm in no position to critique really, so I'll just say not bad, and good for you and such.

Would the standard bearer be something like a dancer or bard? Only using manly awesome to inspire allies to fight?
-
Hm...well now that I look at it again, the standard-guy's standard is facing a different angle than the rest of his body. Generally that's okay, I think, but it's just food for thought.
Also you have a tablet hngh jealous

Klok just likes to use my stuff for his avatar. :/
Nice sprites and such, btw.

Never tried map sprites. Hngh maybe.

The quote makes no sense. You can't train someone to be a mercenary. It's a job that you can just wake up one morning and and say, let's do it! See now, a Mercenary Lord is quite harder to manage. I have to deal with payments, drinking problems, assignment issues, training...it's ridiculous.
Point being, it's just...off.

Very, VERY good work, I will say, but please don't ever use the term elite. I know that there are the insanely good sprites, then the normal ones, and then the horrible ones, but elitism is not a good thing. for shame, feaw
That being said, I like your sprites!
Although the right side OPV hair on Dorothy-man looks a little bit jagged.

JUST LOOK AT HOW IMPROVED THAT IS-
Granted, it most likely isn't perfect, but it's a good deal better
That being said, I'm no mapper, so that'll have to wait for those who are.

That 2nd tier sprite's sword looks weird. It seems like it would snap at the cross-guard if you actually hit someone with it. The rest of the shading, namely on the shield, is a little bit weird as well, but I can't help there, since shading is really trial and error for me.

Multi-person teamwork! Yeah! *High-five to Jon Snow*

No problem. I needed to write something like that for my own sanity.
But, remember, if you happen to START seeing what other people are talking about as you derp around, try to fix what they mention.
Now that that's done, it;s fucking shower time, adios.

"Oh my god. Your sprites are awful and you should go crawl into a hole and die." <--- An example of a troll post. No help whatsoever, simply designed to either hurt your feelings or be a dick.
HOWEVAH! Some people mix in things like that with good, solid help. I'm newer here, so I can't be certain, but the people who are considered good have been at this for a long, long time. They're jaded, sadistic blunt fucks because years of taking critique and giving it has stripped them of their desire to be elegant and/or kind. A good post mixed with 'troll' is an expert's attempt to entertain themselves and help you at the same time. That, or they're just being jerks and such. But you know what? I'm an optimist, so I'll take option one.
I'm kind of reminded of my own mindset a while back. I seem to be seeing that your idea of critique is something like a step-by-step guide, almost like you're using a how-to-draw book. That isn't what critique is. They're drawing your attention to problems, and then you're supposed to take the initiative, and mess around with the problem. There's a different way to solve each sprite's problems, and if you tell someone to tell you exactly what pixel and what color to use in each place, it gets old, really fast.
Even if you don't see the problems, try to change something, and if you do, change something that someone mentioned. Maybe you'll get it right, and then people will say, "Hey, it's better, now try this:". Then try to change something with that. Eventually, through trial and error, if nothing else, you'll make a sprite that people are willing to accept as mediocre/good. Besides, even if you change the wrong thing, at least people will know you're trying.
I'm not the most experienced spriter on SF, and so much of what I say is possibly wrong, and wrong to the extreme. Despite that, I suddenly felt the urge to type a long post on something or other, and here it is. Thank you, and take the fucking critique like a (wo)man have a nice day.
And look, you're starting to understand that. Even if you change something wrong, at least you're changing it.

Trying? No, I've been DOING. Someone says the mountains look unnatural and need improved. I said okay and improved them. That's not TRYING to accept criticism. That's actually accepting and using it.
Also, you say I've made improvements, but then you say the map still has the same problems as before. That also pisses me off. Not only is it contradictory and making no sense (if it still has the same problems, how is it improved at all?), but I try and try but nothing ever satisfies you people.
First off, when people say that the cliffs look linear, they mean the tile placement themselves, not what each tile looks like, sprite-wise. Feaw's diagram a bit back showed a bunch of different cliff tiles in a straight line. The actual tiles made the cliffs look slightly less linear, but it's the actual tile placement they were referring to.
Second, You've made improvements, and most of the comments about THOSE problems have stopped. But there have been specific problems such as the cliff tile placement that people have been talking about for some time now, and it is still a large problem. Hence, same problem (or problems, as the case may be).
And lastly, welcome to SF. We're rarely satisfied with anything because everything can always be improved. The reason the more successful spriters get a lot of praise mixed in with the crit is because they've garnered enough skill that the good of a work vastly outweighs the bad.
EDIT: Damn, ninja'd

mew it's so awesome. Although, that arm does look a little bit weird. I'm not very good at this, so I don't know if you get what im saying, but it just looks off.

Well for that frame after the slash, the hand holding the sword looks...weird. Twisted, maybe, or something, and the shading is a bit off.
And don't worry, I have a de-gif'ifier' program that I forgot about.
also, I hope you're planning to do something about the frame timing. It's pretty slow.

I'm going to take Dai's advice, and just use Durandal. It makes sense, anyway. Besides, ain't nobody got time fo sword-makin.
So progress has been delayed.
