  1. I know they just amp up enemy damage and hinder recovery and mirror everything solely because it is way easier than designing a new dungeon. OoT had Master Quest already due to the bonus WW disc long ago so they just tacked it onto OoT3D but they probably wouldn't have bothered if they hadn't already made it.I agree they could offer it as DLC. Reusing assets to remix a dungeon is not as time consuming as building one from the ground up, after all. But I guess lately Nintendo is just content to work on the next new game instead and save any ideas they may have. The one game where plain old Hero Mode works out is Link Between Worlds because you can tackle dungeons in different orders and feel how challenging or easy one dungeon is compared to another depending on when you start it, and also the Ice Dungeon is a real killer. But the others are just so predictable...
  2. I really liked insect glaive in MH4U. The insect was sooo powerful but I did also like mounting to give myself an opening to go ham with triple buffs. However with the addition of aerial style I might be tempted to try relearning Lance, though the mobility is a whole different mindset from playing IG. Hmmmmmmm...
  3. It might have been world 6. Whatever the fire world was is where I dropped the game. That's how little I cared about my progression, I guess. Going through the jungle world was already like being kicked in the teeth it was so tedious tracking down shy guys.
  4. Honestly, for something that's unlocked by an amiibo that might be in short supply early on, that's fine. Otherwise other people would be even more pissed that they'd be locked out of something significant. For now, the real value of the amiibo is the unspecified data transfer to Zelda Wii U, whenever that happens. I'm looking forward to revisiting TP! After seeing a few comparison trailers, they did spruce up some models (many doors and such have added polygons to be less blocky). I do wish they'd given it the full lighting treatment that Wind Waker HD got but they have done a good job rejuvenating textures at least.
  5. Yay side: Dragon Quest, finally! 7 and 8 are considered two of the best as well. Square Enix held off on these soooo hard, so I'm just happy they changed their minds with some coaxing from Nintendo and the continued high performance of the Bravely Default franchise. I really enjoyed Azure Striker Gunvolt as a game with a similar feel to the MMX franchise while still being its own distinct thing. Unfortunately the English version had a bunch of cut content so I hope AS2 has enough money to not cut anything this time around. MONSTER HUNTER GENERATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nay side: Hyrule Warriors Legends, not because I think it will be bad (then again Warriors games are usually not so good on handhelds from what I hear...), but because Season Pass. There's so much paid DLC off the bat and that kind of idea sours me a bit, just like it's soured me with Fire Emblem recently. Which is a shame because what they've shown off for new characters is awesome. Paper Mario Colour Splash: Sticker Star 2? Doesn't look so hot and that's a shame because I really just want another TTYD or even a Super Paper Mario and this already looks like it isn't going to deliver. Pocket Card Jockey: Uhh... I think this skews a little too young for me to be interested at all.
  6. I saw the trailer and had such a sinking feeling this is going to be just another Sticker Star. The world map style, the card combat (aka stickers with a new coat of paint), the lack of interesting new characters... everything screams generic Mario. I mean we could potentially get something akin to Super Paper Mario which would be an improvement from Sticker Star at least, but nothing in this trailer gave me any hope except Peach accompanying Mario. Maybe something will come of that? With what they've currently shown I've got no hope. I abandoned Sticker Star around world 8 when I found it had just flatlined. The puzzles weren't fun, the worlds weren't interesting, and none of the characters were endearing. I had some enjoyment out of the quiz show part and collecting everything at least once to fill out the museum but otherwise? One of the least fun games I own for the 3DS. While Paper Mario, TTYD and Super Paper Mario are not perfect games, they at least managed to break up generic "plains, desert, haunted mansion, jungle, ice world, fire world" with a FEW new ideas.
  7. Both versions have their ups and downs. I don't really like JP Felicia very much, but I like their take on Effie and Nyx more. English Effie just doesn't fit the face. On the other hand, English Azura is one of the most fitting and pleasant voices I've heard in a dub. I feel like both versions have very strong male voices (I can't really think of a male character I really dislike) but are hit or miss with the women on both sides. Japan has too much of a preference for high pitched voices but the English version has a few voices that seem like they're trying a little too hard to force quirks.
  8. It's better to merge everything into a main machine that is your primary and then reset the other system. Switching machines for all your purchases would be a bit of a pain. As for blurriness, the resolution of the XL screen is the same as the old 3DS but with fatter pixels. It will be blurrier unfortunately. However the brightness is dimmer because the default lighting for the backlight is set to auto adjust for power saving. There's a wrench icon in the top left of the main screen to adjust brightness settings.
  9. 00573-59917 05393-14583 My Castle has peaches and jade for the taking. Also features a gold armory/item shop/arena. I haven't built additional defenses for castle battles or create any particular battle formations, though I didn't demolish Lilith's Shrine and my units are just the main units I use during the story minus Ryoma.
  10. Mitama is amazing even if you never trained Azama if you get her at chapter 19/20. Azama might not pass any skills down but she'll have excellent bases for a priestess and at least C rank staves. I personally picked her up at chapter 19 so she could help out on very important heal duties in the next few chapters. Selkie has a good personal skill but her defense is as poor as her father's, making her another glass cannon unit in a sea of other glass cannons. If you aren't using Kaden I would use Selkie because Beastrunes are great weapons, though. Kiragi is also pretty good as bows are a very strong weapon in this game. Asugi is a bit fragile on the physical side at his base, but shurikens help him blunt damage severely and help others to tear apart generals. Depending on pairings he might handle flame shurikens well. Rhajat was an instant magical pick-up for chapter 19 to deal with half of the enemies, with extreme magic and fairly good speed, though a scary poor 11 skill at base. Of the kids I was unimpressed by, Shiro and Hisame are a bit superfluous as you have plenty of good sword and lance users to pick from. Hisame was better than his father but still not that good considering Ryoma exists. He also had terrible defense AND resistance (although significantly better than his father's staggeringly poor 3 res at 20/1), and merely average strength and speed. Shiro is a bit better as he can go straight into Basara and tear stuff up with Rend Heaven, but he's kind of average in everything. Enemies start to ramp up in damage quite hard from this point so any unit with sub 35 HP and 20 defense are going to be tricky to maneuver. I wouldn't dawdle with most of the paralogues beyond chapter 20 otherwise kids like Shiro and Selkie are going to be picked off by enemies with better bases than them until they seal up. Some children are less vulnerable or worry free, like Rhajat, Shigure, and Dwyer.
  11. Yeah pretty much this. I expected Camilla to be the sexy one. The camera angles are purely to oggle her body. However while I don't mind that they put in a femme fatale character, I am a little peeved she's not wearing pants on a DRAGON. Wearing tiny panties on a big scaly beast doesn't seem very comfortable. You cannot even make the argument these are gym short bloomers either, they're way too small. The fact that there are even holes in her outfit to specifically zoom in on her ass and crotch is just extra silly. And it seems every mounted female decided it was pants-optional day, which is even worse. You'd think they'd reserve the bare legs for the myrmidon style characters who are designed around sword acrobatics, like in the old days. I don't mind Camilla's boobs or curviness at all, just sitting on a mount like that makes me cringe internally. I love her hair and face though.
  12. Missing an 85% shot that would end chapter 11 in Birthright, only to miss and get hit with a 54% hit, 2% crit chance crit. Sigh. I then proceeded to die repeatedly to fatal misses after that point. Poor planning on my part but missing those high rate attacks is like FFXIV levels of prayer to RNGesus... Also missing 6 times in a row in the arena with a 75% hit rate.
  13. Hinoka may have good support conversations but as far as the main story is concerned, she does nearly nothing. Hoshido really is the Takumi and Ryoma show, while Azura is the most prominent female character. Even Sakura at least gets to shine as a healer at least a few times, but Hinoka's skills aren't really utilized at all. I feel like even Camilla has had more to say as your adversary than Hinoka does as your ally. While you may not like Takumi for his hostility during the main story, it's just the truth that the game focuses on him a lot.
  14. Jakob is an obvious choice, as he's your first partner, has a skill that exclusively supports Corrin, and is a good unit for most of the game even if he eventually falls to back-line support after awhile. He's also got a great accent and a decent support, and his My Room lines are sweet, so it works well. He's not the most powerful in terms of reclass options, though. I think Silas is a good choice too, since he's got the childhood friend angle and also will give you synergistic classes in cavalier (or mercenary if you already had cavalier as your alt class). I don't really like the idea of marrying my brothers, but Ryoma and Xander are good options in the same way that Silas is, but I'd rather pair them off to other people who have more to offer them than Corrin does.
  15. When the New 3DS came out, MH4U wasn't out yet. However the MH4U game and New 3DS bundle came out on the same day, same as Majora's Mask 3DS. It's been a little over a year since it's been out. As for amiibos for Fire Emblem Fates, only the 4 current Fire Emblem amiibos (Marth, Ike, Robin, Lucina) have any functionality but they give you in-game accessories (2 each) and then a class change item to their respective 2nd tier classes. Those same amiibos work with Codename S.T.E.A.M. as well. Smash Bros supports any amiibo with the Smash Bros bases. Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer supports all the Animal Crossing amiibos except Villager, I think. Xenoblade Chronicles gives you tokens for unlocking things in the model viewer and jukebox if you tap in Shulk. Hyrule Warriors will likely work with every amiibo for random bonuses but have special weapons if you tap in the Link amiibo specifically.
  16. The nub isn't amazing but I use it a lot for Monster Hunter 4U's camera. The built-in amiibo functionality works great for Fire Emblem Fates since the Fire Emblem amiibos give such great goodies to use.
  17. It's company policy at North American stores to write names on cups. It helps when it's busy so people will hopefully not take someone else's drink (though it happens anyway). You can literally give them any name though my name is written on my Starbucks card. Some people notice and use it, some stores remember who I am, and then there's the many people who can't spell Joanna or spell a variant. I get a lot of Johanna, Joanne, or even Joana usually.
  18. Someone wrote my name as Jhoanz... Maybe... The handwriting is terrible. I don't even know how someone came up with that. Also this https://twitter.com/xyrafhoan/status/452545714195664896?s=09 Closer, but man those are some real scribbles.
  19. The sheilds show when you will guard the enemy's attack. However guard stance also always block the opponent's attack stance even if you haven't filled the meter. This is extremely important even if stat boosts were nerfed and you do not get a follow up attack.
  20. I was disappointed in the choices for Streetpass card locations. Despite being a North American copy, all the locations are either USA states or Fire Emblem locations. Nothing for Canadians. I can't recall if this was the case in Awakening but for the moment, I'm a little disappointed we didn't even get a nonspecific "Canada" catch-all. Voices: Hmm... I feel like there may be a few too many grunts for dialogue. Wish it was a little more quiet sometimes as the clips can be rather abrupt. People I definitely like so far: Gunter, Silas, Ryoma, Xander, Leo, Jakob, Azura, Rinkah, Kaze, Saizo, Subaki (gimme back that T :(). People I'm iffy on: Hana, every female Corrin voice. Everyone else I'm ok with but don't love. I'm doing Birthright first so I have no opinion on the units of Nohr yet. [spoiler=For supports, no plot spoilers]Personalities: I'm a little bit disappointed that some characters like Rhajat are more vicious than their JP selves. I think they made everyone a little bit more snarky overall, aside from toning down the characters who were a little *too* mean like Azama. I peeked at some of the child supports as well. I really liked how they handled Kana and Soleil. I like the return of platonic let's-be-friends S ranks as it reminds me of the olden days. The rage over Hisame and his pickles made me chuckle when I read the Japanese support with Corrin, as it was literally ALL about pickles. There was absolutely no depth in that support other than Hisame going "my father didn't like pickles so he gave them all to me, now I love them and please don't think I'm an old geezer." Some people outraged with Hisame and pickles seem to think Treehouse made the whole thing up. Now I can see why Treehouse thought it would be funny to just take the pickle love to the next level and use it for My room/Hisame's confession of love, though it probably should have been a joke left on the cutting room floor. Now we're memes. Speaking of memes, Izana is insanely memetic but it works better here, if only for the weirdness factor and also "You put a ring on Izana, gurl!" may be the best line ever uttered in all of video games.
  21. I feel like Dark Dawn squandered its potential HARD... nothing but teases of something better but no payoff. Honestly if I were to recommend the series, just get the first two and forget that the third one is a thing. You will only feel frustration otherwise. But piikeisanda (Kaz here) does good fanart... nsfw fanart but amazing nontheless. I was browsing my Steam library and stumbled upon an indie otome-style visual novel called Long Live the Queen. The events happen on branching rails like most VNs so sometimes it can be an exercise in madness to know exactly what skills to push to succeed at the right time across many, many potentially fatal events but there's something extremely endearing about the many ways you can die, and also the insanity of ways for you to survive. Very simple presentation but almost Game of Thrones-y style backstabbing and manipulation under its cute shojo veneer. It also runs on any old potato of a computer and is pretty cheap on Steam for something that is worth several hours of your time.
  22. I really believe Zelda and Jigglypuff weren't buffed because of consideration for doubles where their high risk playstyle with poor approach ability is partly mitigated by a partner. Also apparently Zelda players online are really good, probably because the only people who keep playing her are reaaaally good. I feel bad for Jigglypuff who has very few good matchups (Sonic is a goddamn nightmare) but again, seems like her online presense is ok. Unfortunately it feels like Sakurai is content for Jigglypuff to remain a joke character after Melee (one of the final unlocks of Brawl only to be one of the worst characters), and who knows what the hell he's thinking with Zelda and Samus. A Samus homing missile can't even bounce back a Dedede Gordo it's so useless...
  23. For the FFXIV fans out there, we're also getting a major content patch on February 23rd. Sephirot battle HYPE
  24. Ehhh it's not an amazing sketch but I was drawing in between doing gathering stuff in FFXIV. The tiny head and wide shoulders is true to character.
