  1. "Who's Mario?" Even if you're not a fan you've gotta be pretty damn oblivious to not even know who Mario is. In all seriousness, though, I don't really get out enough to hear some seriously stupid stuff.
  2. Your avatar's a realistic portrait of Basilio; I already like you. Welcome!
  3. Now all I want to do is rage about NoJ calling Ylisse "Iris", because it's not pronounced like Iris at all (yes I do know the katakana for the name which is why I say this) so seeing that name just ticks me off because it's so misleading and Engrishy and nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG
  4. I believe what Anouleth means to call to attention (in fact I'm certain) is that regardless of what was planned for him, Ike was never actually punished for that particular blunder.
  5. Personally I prefer cloudy/slightly cloudy weather to clear sunny skies most of the time, since clouds are pretty and it usually means the day will be cooler. (Hot days can go to hell; I'm looking at you 95% of Summer) Rain is nice too, but usually only when I'm in the mood for it. I especially love rain/thunderstorms when I'm all cozied up inside. Being outside on a (slightly) cloudy day is one of my favorite things, although I can enjoy clear skies, too. (Mostly in Autumn/Fall, Winter and early Spring, though) Also, the whole "tanning improving appearences" thing is subjective. I personally prefer people's natural skin tones to artificial ones, although I understand not all people share my opinion.
  6. Hmm... This'll be tough; I like a lot of FE characters, really. Roger's my favorite from Shadow Dragon. He has quite a lot of personality for the few lines he gets and I appreciate that. He's also got fine bases and growth rates and I always use him over Draug. Athena, Radd and Horace are all pretty rad, too. And Norne's adorable. (Well, her portrait/face at least. I... don't really fully understand her torso in the official art.) Also, Merric and Linde will never not be at least sort of cool to me. Merric's the original Mage, and they're each inheritors of their own cool, powerful spell. Finally, I actually (somewhat surprisingly) have come to like Marth a lot over time. I like his design (weird Shadow Dragon portrait aside), he's pretty good as a unit and I actually like him as a character, too. Fire Emblem Gaiden... Jenny. Also Cliff. It ticks me off that neither of them got into the legacy character listings for Awakening. At least both of their game's protagonists got great DLC art. Call me weird but I have a soft spot for Yumina and Yubello in (New) Mystery of the Emblem. I used them both even though there were clearly better characters in each class... mostly because I thought they looked cool. I think they ended up trading classes at one point, since I thought it would suit their personalities more. And, y'know, weapon levels. Also, Leiden actually did pretty well for me as a Sniper. Fire Emblem Binding Blade, one of my favorites is Gonzales, because he looks big and scary, but he's really just a great, caring guy who was picked on and isolated because of the way he looks. Also recruitable Brigand aw yeah. There's also Lugh, Raigh and Chad. Lugh and Raigh are the twin sons of one my favorites from FE7 and Chad is their friend. They're just a bunch of kids who stuck together (well, Raigh... not so much) to help each other in times of crisis. There's also Miledy, who's awesome, cute and one of my favorite Wyvern Riders/Dracoknights/whatevers in the series. Fire Emblem 7... There will always be a soft spot in my heart for Lyn, Eliwood, Hector, and the ice dragon siblings. The three lords were the ones who introduced me to Fire Emblem and I suppose they are to me what Marth is to long time Fire Emblem players in Japan. They're iconic and nostalgic to me, as are Nils and Ninian. Also, Matthew, Legault and Nino are some other favorites. Matthew's a pretty sharp guy who keeps his wits about him and gets stuff done and actually has a character development arc of sorts integrated into the main story, something not many other non-lord characters can claim to have. Legault's sassy, playful and confident demeanor is just a character type I like, and the fact that he gets unique sprites in battle (well, not entirely unique after promotion) was really cool to me. Nino is just adorable and I admire her for not just breaking down and giving up after all she has to go through. Also, both her potential romances are cute. Jaffar being one of those two is also pretty badass in his own right, and I thought it was cool for someone so highly-ranked in the enemy group to have a change of heart like he did. On top of that, his relationship with Nino is really sweet. Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones... I'll be honest, few characters from this game really stood out to me compared to others in the series, but I like Innes as well as Gerik's mercenary troup, including Ewan. Path of Radiance, I know it's cliche but Nephenee is a recruitable Soldier who is not only totally rad but also has a great design, especially color palette. I also like Rhys, who is pretty much hands-down the best Priest/Cleric/Curate I've used in a Fire Emblem game. I'm really digging that high Magic stat. ...Also Lethe. She may not be a terribly great unit but she's got a cute personality and appearance. I know as a result of their game's lack of support conversations neither of them have all that much character depth, but I like Leonardo and Meg from Radiant Dawn; they're probably two of my favorite characters in terms of visual design in the whole series. I like Leonardo's hair and coloration and he gets props for his almost-perfect visual representation as a legacy character in Awakening. Meg is just plain adorable, she's unique both in body type and in being a female first armor knight. When I get a copy of Radiant Dawn that actually works properly I'm going to bring those two to endgame, despite the favoritism required in doing so. In Fire Emblem Awakening, I really appreciate Stahl precisely for his lack of a real gimmick. He feels a lot more interesting and relatable as a result of that, and he reminds me of the Fire Emblem characters of older games, which I like. Panne I like because she's ordinarily pretty tough, but according to their supports she's willing to accept affection from the Avatar (she actually asks for it, even, more or less) despite many tough characters having this sort of "accepting such affection is weakness" attitude about it. (And I think it's adorable to be able to have her marry the person whom she warned not two chapters ago not to think of her as a friend) She's also effectively a bunny Laguz and she looks adorable as a Thief. Inigo was also a surprisingly deep and interesting character, and while I normally don't really mind the flirtatious characters, he's the first one to have me actually rooting for him after those parental supports revealing his backstory. Poor guy deserves a loving wife. Also, I actually really like him as Chrom's son despite the rushedness of his parents' romance in that instance. Plus, a LordxDancer pairing is a callback of sorts to my first and favorite Fire Emblem game, so... Shiida=Caeda. Shiida is the European localization of her name, whereas in North America her name is Caeda instead.
  7. Pokemon Black/White 2 Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem ~Heroes of Light and Shadow~ Dragon Quest IX Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky Honorable Mention: Pokemon Black/White, Super Mario 64 DS
  8. Sorta depends on the apparent difficulty of the chapter. A lot of times with easier-looking chapters I'll just select some units, swap their starting positions around a bit to find a formation that doesn't suck, and then just go for it. Harder chapters, though, I will plan out my team's layout, items, equipment and everything, sometimes quite meticulously. Pulling off a plan I put a lot of thought into is one of the most satisfying feelings in Fire Emblem.
  9. Rally Spectrum and Rally Heart, certainly. The others, not so much.
  10. I really like Link's Awakening, actually. It's enjoyable and portable and I love the palette choices and the aesthetics and the whole thing is just cute and whimsical and fun. The gameplay is surprisingly smooth and fluid for such an old game, and there are all these neat little details and things you can do with items and stuff. Like Pegasus Boots and the Roc's Feather allowing you to jump further, lay a bomb immediately before firing and arrow and BLAM bomb arrow! (That's right, Link's Awakening has the debut of that feature, not Twilight Princess) And of course, there's Magic Powder, and the Hookshot, Shovel, the secret Boomerang (and pistol-whipping enemies with it)... I also found the dungeons pretty fun. Plus you can get the enhanced DX rerelease on the 3DS for just $6.00. I think that's a pretty good deal for it.
  11. MOTHER/EarthBound Zero Final Fantasy I Crystalis Fire Emblem: Gaiden Kirby's Adventure I haven't played many NES games, honestly. Also, below Mother 1 the ordering gets kinda arbitrary. Honorable mention to Zeldas I and II and Dragon Quest III
  12. Speaking of which, you can pair up two units with Galeforce, have one kill an enemy and then move and have the OTHER one kill the next enemy, and you could get three kills out of one pair in one player phase. Of course, you could get four kills with two separate Galeforce units, but pairs are more powerful and safer to use in most situations.
  13. I don't recall ever suggesting that Hardin should have lived. (Although I understand where one would get that idea) I was just pointing out how the disproportionate nature of his fate compared to Michalis', considering each of their past actions, was somewhat frustrating to me. Of course Hardin should stay dead; his tragic fate is a key element of the story and it wouldn't be nearly as impactful were he to survive. ...Regardless, I do always recruit Michalis, since I am a completionist as far as character recruitment/survival goes. He still irks me, though.
  14. Eh, I don't like Michalis. He gets treated far too well by the writers for what he did. Let's see... He killed his parents, took over their country and had his baby sister held hostage to force his other sister's hand. He had the most frightened soldiers sent to the front lines to die first including his unwilling fiance's brother. As far as I'm aware there is no remotely sympathetic motive behind any of this. He's just a tyrannical, power-hungry jackass for no reason, and no, giving Marth Starlight in FE12 (was he in 3, too?) doesn't come close to making up for any of it. Compare Hardin, who was a kind and just leader (well... until the thing) and good friend to both Marth and Nyna. He and his Wolfguard fought tooth and nail along with Marth and his soldiers to free Archanea, and later, the entire continent, from the malevolent domination of Gharnef and Medeus. He loved Nyna sincerely and was truly heartbroken when he learned she didn't feel the same. When he was at his most vulnerable, Gharnef took advantage of his anguish and planted the seeds of malice in his heart with the Darksphere; only then did Hardin become a tyrant, and it wasn't even truly of his own free will. Now let's compare what ultimately happens to them, shall we? Michalis not only miraculously survives his initial defeat at the hands of Marth's army, but survives another near-death situation only to join Marth's group and (presumably) go on to lead a full life after the events of the game. Hardin gets his heart shattered when he learns the love of his life doesn't truly reciprocate his feelings, and is corrupted by the very sorceror he once stood against, ultimately being killed by... potentially any one of five of his closest friends. Do you see the inequity here? I mean, life is unfair and all that, and I'm all for giving sympathy to those who genuinely have changed their ways, but the fact that it's almost painfully obvious that in this instance it's because Michalis is pretty while Hardin... isn't (don't get me wrong, he's far from ugly and it's my opinion that Hardin is even rather handsome in some ways, but he's still hardly what I'd call "pretty") is what generates all this animousity in me towards Michalis.
  15. Well, not officially, but if I ever get off my lazy butt and actually make a hack/fangame/whatever it will certainly happen. Pudgy thief girl "lord" who spoils herself and her partners in crime with their earnings. (And also it would mean no "Killing all these people is one thing, but taking their stuff? We have morals, Shinon") While this theoretical protagonist is a thief, she's not really all that morally-ambiguous, for the most part. She'd certainly be a combat pragmatist, and would lead her troups accordingly, but it wouldn't be to the extent of monstrous acts for the sake of victory. (At least, not 95% of the time) My idea was that the first few chapters would have her and her merry band going about their roguish business before getting caught by the local guard force. Perhaps with the same manipulative tactics she uses to aid in her thefts, the protagonist convinces the guard forces to let her work off her crimes instead of being locked up, so she's conscripted to fight with them. After reports of a seemingly-minor skirmish turn out to be something more, an unexpected chain of events leads to her and her troup trapped far from home, in hostile territory, with rumors of the main force's safety being none-too-reassuring. This fear, doubt and unease would lead to conflicts of interest and even leadership amongst the group, something they can ill afford given their current situation... Of course, this would likely just be the first arc, but it's a start.
  16. I'll be honest, I don't really like any of Sumia's pairing options and she mostly just gets paired with some spare character for the sake of character recruitment completionism. (Although I do find it amusing how Cynthia is the only child you can lock yourself out of recruiting even on Casual mode by marrying Chrom, Frederick, Gaius, Henry and, if applicable, a male Avatar to other girls) I know it's cliche, but I really don't like what they did with OliviaxHenry in the English translation. I don't really like InigoxMorgan, although that's maybe just because I got their supports right after Inigo's parent supports and I really wanted to chew out Morgan for being such a jerk to him about his flirtatiousness, which personally doesn't bother me at all. (Probably because he strikes me as the type to respect girls and actually comply when they request for him to back off, although I haven't gotten his supports with any of his other potential love interests so I can't say for sure. Well, that and being flirty has never struck me as something that is inherently disrespectful). ...Personally, if there was a pairing for Inigo where his love interest sort of goes along with his flirting in a playful, eventually-affectionate way that would be adorable and I'd be totally down with it. Panne and Ricken. I thought it'd be cute but it was just kinda bland and... unromantic. (I like Panne better with Vaike or the Avatar) I don't really like the idea of Tharja with someone other than the Avatar because she has shown herself on multiple occasions to be the type to not let such things go, but at the same time, her confession scene death threat is a turnoff, as well as how she treats her future child(ren). In a weird sort of way, though, I actually kind of like her as the Avatar's love interest, since she's just so... nonstandard for that role. (Well, that and I also have a huge soft spot for requited crush romances, but that's probably just me.) Cordelia's pairings, as well, I don't really enjoy much, if only because in a lot of them her character "flaw" comes off as her being too hard working and devoted. I actually kinda like her pairing with the Avatar if only because her character flaw is revealed to not be the aforementioned but rather low self-esteem as a result of various factors. I actually have a sort of odd thing to add that only sort of goes here, but I tried AvatarxNowi once and the S support confession scene actually made me a little sad, since Nowi says something along the lines of "Think of all the wonderful cent- er, years we'll have together!" I realize that this same element of sadness would be present in all her other potential romances as well, but that confession just sort of... hit me in the face with it. I think it probably has to do with her being less mature than Tiki, since I didn't have the same problem with those supports, but it just seemed to me like there'd be this underlying tone of sadness to their relationship, since Nowi would watch her husband age without her, being constantly reminded of how he'll die long before she even looks like an adult. I realize some of these seem kinda... wimpy, compared to the other opinions in this thread, but it's really hard for me to get so passionately invested in such things that I hate even the thought of certain outcomes. If I can have them not come to pass in my playthroughs, regardless of what others, even the creators, do about them, I'm cool.
  17. ...I'll be honest, I have my Avatar as body type 2 but my headcanon for him is that he's actually 16~19 and just really petit and feminine for his age/sex. And yeah, medieval setting, marriage age customs differences, herpaderpadunk. To be honest I had them at around that age, although I pictured Chrom being a year or two older than that. Oddly for their sizes/personalities (in Ricken's case), I'd thought both Ricken and Donnel were 14~15, which I suppose still works for the most part (Donnel could just be a younger 14 than Lissa).
  18. My very favorite chapter in the entire series (that I've played) is Chapter 19E/20H in Fire Emblem 7. The first time I reached the chapter as a kid there was just this climactic, epic feel to it; the location, the difficulty, the miniboss, and the fact that I was finally leading Eliwood and co. into battle against that craven bastard Darin himself, and after him, to confront Nergal and save Elbert. Of course, as many of us know, things didn't quite work out that way in the end, but I still loved the chapter, and in fact the way in which the plot progressed was a huge twist to me, since I was honestly expecting the next few chapters after that to be the end. My least favorite single chapter is probably Fire Emblem: Awakening's Chapter 12. It's just so bland; the map's no fun, the story events are dull and underwhelming and it's just generally a chore to play. I usually kinda have to force myself to play it by reminding myself that I must in order to get the child characters.
  19. I am the one who posted a thread about this a while back. I don't know that I'm the only one to post about it before this but I do remember the Esme comment so I'm guessing you guys are all remembering the thread I made about this? But yes Inigolivia is quite attractive~
  20. I am the most beautiful dragon in all of the Unova region.
  21. Actually it'd add a neat element of choice to the game, since there's no way every male can be paired up even with the Avatar as a girl. ...Okay, you could technically get all the child characters with a female Avatar by marrying Chrom to the generic village girl, but... Or of course they could add a few more first-generation girl characters as well so everyone could have a spouse. Maybe a pair of mutually-exclusive characters wherein you get whichever one is the opposite sex from the Avatar.
  22. Yeah, it'd be kind of a huge ripoff if DLC maps were only good for one playthrough. Go nuts!
  23. The DLC data is saved to the SD card, so that needs to be present; the game card can't access data that it's not connected to, after all. So long as the SD card with the DLC on it is inserted, though, both the physical and digital copies should have access to the DLC.
  24. Ehehehehehehehe~ Anyway, I think it's mostly because of the term "sword dancer" (or at least, that's how I interpreted it). In reality, it's probably just because swords are a light weapon with a method of attack that meshes easily with the sort of elegant motions dancers specialize in.
  25. Hey, welcome! Glad to see a new fan of Fire Emblem joining; it's a pretty cool series, and I'm happy that you're enjoying the older installments as well. (Awakening has so many added gameplay luxuries I sometimes worry it makes other Fire Emblem titles seem offputting by comparison) Don't worry, most of us here won't bite. Most of us.
