  1. Haha, don't worry about sounding immodest; when asked about one's good points it actually kinda seems like you have self-esteem issues if you can't think of anything. in which case it's imperative to get good friends who reassure you you're awesome Anyway, welcome! As far as I can tell, the community's fairly friendly and helpful, although there is a bit of an elitist attitude about certain things at times. (Mostly revolving around tier lists and such) All in all, though, this is probably the best Fire Emblem fansite I've visited, so it's pretty awesome. Also, have I seen you around before? Your avatar looks familiar...
  2. Nah, I don't believe in that phrase. besides, "Real men don't cry for themselves; they cry for their friends" is a better one I usually don't cry just because that's not really how I express the emotions that usually lead to it, but I don't really have a problem with other dudes crying if that's how they express their particular emotions. I'm just generally anti-emotional-repression, so...
  3. /implying you're supposed to care about Phila Anyway, I think the Paralogues are probably canon. I mean, they all have stories and the characters can support and marry and level up and are treated just like any other recruitable characters you have... they even have endings! There is absolutely nothing separating them from obviously-canon characters so much as to make them noncanon. Of course, in FE:A you kinda make your own version of the story with each playthrough, so...
  4. Ahaha, those Hartmut animations are hilarious. And Hanon as a guy makes my continuity-conscious side cringe.
  5. Yes DonnelxLissa is adorable I approve of this. I dunno, I thought he was almost closer to Narcien, actually. He's really self absorbed, thinks he's sexy (although he is significantly further from sexy than Narcien) and he has his own agenda. In terms of appearance, though, I can definitely see why Oliver+Valtome would come to mind.
  6. Maribelle is one of my absolute favorites. I hate to use this phrasing, since I do find it grating (and an egregious violation of grammatical correctness) at times, but I literally have yet to find a pairing for her I didn't like. Every time I reassigned her pairing was due to liking another girl with the guy more rather than disliking Maribelle with them. So far my favorite pairing for her is Vaike because it's actually really neat and they both get development relevant to their personalities and formerly-established relationship with each other. (And also Brady has a whole family resemblance thing going on) That said, I like Brady as well. I like characters who look tough and intimidating but are really big softies. It's really endearing to me. I really appreciate Stahl. His lack of gimmick actually made him more likable to me. He ended up feeling more like the other FE games' characters, with a personality that didn't depend on a gimmick to stand out. He's also a really nice and mostly chilled-out dude, so he's pretty neat. Basilio and Flavia are pretty great. I love how they're royalty (or the equivalent) from a nation other than the hero's (or villain's) who actually help out a lot and even ultimately join your party. Donnel... He's a hardworking guy who earns his strength through enduring several levels of crappy stats before finally becoming usably strong on-par with other characters. I have a soft spot for characters who prove themselves through hard work, honestly. Tharja... I actually like her. Someone else summed up why pretty well... The fact that she actually does have a heart under all that creepiness, and when she cares about someone, she really cares about them. Libra's pretty cool. He's an independent guy who takes the initiative when called for and he seems like he's found his place in the world, but he's still very active and isn't just sitting around basking in it. I find that somewhat enviable, really. of course he's a priest and envy is one of the seven deadly sins He's even a pretty good unit (who comes as one of the raddest classes in the game) if you level him up, so that's nifty. Henry's darkly hilarious but kind only when I'm in the mood for it do I really like him. I love the family that Chrom, Olivia, Lucina and Inigo make together. Inigo's father supports are a lot more meaningful with Chrom, and I suppose the same could be said of his supports with Lucina as well. I also like MU, Panne, Morgan and Yarne. It's sort of a more lighthearted relationship, but they're cute in their own way. I found Excellus fairly entertaining, actually, although I am a fan of the sassy scheming villain archetype. I also... don't get where all the comparisons to Oliver come from? I mean, he's a fat, egotistical magic-using antagonist but they aren't really all that similar beyond that. Gangrel. Gangrel is my favorite villain in this game. Maybe it's just me reading into things too much, but from the end of Chapter 9 onward there's this sort of undercurrent of sadness and resentment for the world in his personality that I really like; it lends a good level depth to his character that wouldn't otherwise be present. I felt really bad for Mustafa. I wish there was some way to finish the chapter without killing him, but alas... Of course I must mention the transsexual Sage from Paralogue 9. Even though I think they may have just accidentally mixed up your voice files with Mute War Cleric's, you're still pretty rad. Rock on, Transsexual Sage.
  7. [spoiler=Fire Emblem Awakening spoilers]Dragon!Grima, because of his real face under that skull-like helmet/shell thing he wears. The fact that you never get a very good look at it does not help. I agree, Monica was pretty creepy. I was also somewhat disturbed by the Manakete boss of Chapter 11 in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, and his excited threats to burn his opponent until their blood boils and their flesh cooks. What creeped me out was imagining what that would actually look/feel like. Victor and Vincent having that whole incestuous relationship with each other is eugh. To be honest, though, I wasn't really all that creeped out by Oliver or Excellus, and I actually felt bad for Kishuna more than anything, since he's equivalently an abused and abandoned child despite his appearance. Nowi is adorable and people will probably think me creepy for saying that her really being around 1,000 years old does make it a lot better to me. Well, that and the fact that this does actually seem to affect how well she's able to comprehend things and their implications. but maybe that's just a headcanon personality trait I guess it really sorta zigzags in her supports and stuff.
  8. I play on Classic, but reset whenever someone dies. I just wouldn't feel right playing it any other way. Haven't finished the game yet because the fiend called Grinding holds me back. Generally, I use Pair Up a lot, whereas whether I'll go all-out offensive or have just a few units take the majority of the map depends on the enemy strength relative to the majority of my units'. The maps in this game seem more geared in favor of offensive strategies, anyway, with fewer choke points and oddly erratic enemy placement. As far as character usage, although this wasn't really a question, I'll generally end up leveling everyone up quite a bit, especially parents-to-be, and marrying off couples ASAP.
  9. Honestly, I usually do. Even if the avatar doesn't match their displayed gender, (although I still imagine them being whatever gender I know them to be, which can be weird at times) or, in fact, their species. Unless, of course, I happen to know for a fact what the person actually looks like, or have something to give me an idea. If there are multiple characters in their avatar, it's whichever of those characters fits most with their personality. If their avatar is an inanimate object... Congratulations, you're an inanimate object.
  10. Ahaha, that's great! I hope all you guys 'n girls have a blast with the game, alright? Just a heads up; it's super easy to overgrind and make the main story maps a joke, if that's a concern. Just keep it in mind, at least.
  11. Always English. I tried Japanese for one skirmish, heard Lissa's voice, turned the voices back. To be honest, I've got no idea how people think the English voices are more whiny-sounding than the Japanese ones, although perhaps it's because "whiny" would hardly be my ideal descriptor... I think my problem with them is that they're unrealistically high pitched; almost no teenage girls' voices would actually sound like that, and so perhaps that's one reason I prefer English voices, since there's usually a lot less pandering in that regard. Of course, there's also the whole "a language I can actually understand" thing, as well as the fact that it's less awkward for others to overhear me playing with English voices than with Japanese. Unless they're overhearing the old villager woman. She probably makes the most suggestive groans I've ever heard. I don't really hate the Japanese voices, I just prefer the English ones.
  12. Also Nowi, Nah and Tiki being able to reclass into Wyvern Riders is the most unintentionally-sexual reclass option in the game.
  13. I return! And I bring a WIP: Completely full-custom, in a new style inspired by Tales of Phantasia GBA. This perhaps-unfittingly-adorable style is what I'm planning to use for an RPG Maker VX Ace Fire Emblem fan game. I thought it would be a good idea to do a test run of the style to sort of get a feel for it, and this is what I came up with in about... an hour, I'd say? And of course, what better class to start with than the Cavalier, the trusty ol' fan favorite? This is, of course, just a generic allied cavalier, hence the colors. (The enemy-faction orientation is just because that's the way I made the sprite. It doesn't really mean anything. Besides, battle scene orientation will be DSFE style anyway.) The battle animations are planned to be like a cross between the SNES entries' and Awakening's. That is to say, basically "What If Awakening Was a Sprite Game?"-style. This includes the specific equipped weapon being visible in battle, although the weapons wielded here are just generic representative models. So, what do you think of the style? Anything I can do to improve it? (Especially the hair. I tried my best but it's still ugh. Oh, and the horse, of course.)
  14. Hey, I was playing The Last Promise recently and I was thinking about making a "for fun" SpotPass listing for it, but I didn't think it would warrant cluttering the thread. Obviously the team would include Siegfried, Shon, Kelik, Anakin and at least one out of Louis and Leon (since there's always a villain in there, too), but who would the rest be? It's not really important,...

  15. Pentagon. Mike 'n Ike's. The planet Volkean. In the Vaike of the disaster, there were no survivors... A perfectly Chromulant word. I've lost my Wil to fight... Daddy's little Raigh of sunshine. Excuse me, I gotta go use the Lugh. Don't you dare Sully my family's honor! Wolt Disney. Just a Leif in the breeze... I won't Seliph you don't pay. Mona Lissa. I find you Erksome. That green is nice, but perhaps a different Hugh would be better.
  16. For this, I'll be taking into account the relative ages of kids to their parents, so their jobs (or "jobs") will likely all be ones a teenager would actually be able to get. You know, I can actually see Gerome being a stage actor, in plays and musicals and such. Offstage he'd never speak of it, though. Miriel would obviously be a physicist. Whoever said Laurent would try to be a physicist as well but get sidetracked into something else I agree with you there as well. Henry would be the creepy neighbor; nobody actually has any idea what he does but he always seems really happy and sometimes weird noises are heard from his house or he's just inexplicably not there at all for completely erratic periods of time and then when he's back he acts like nothing happened. He may also be the eccentric pet store clerk. Stahl, I think, would run a small family-owned pharmacy/general shop. An old friend's dad actually had a similar job, and it's something I can totally see Stahl doing. I also agree with the person who said Severa would be a pop star; it matches her personality pretty well actually. Kjelle would be the star pupil of some martial arts teacher. Sully would be that teacher/a higher-ranked pupil, at least, as well as... well the professional grease monkey idea actually works a lot better than what I had here originally. Gaius would probably own a bakery specializing in pastries and sweets. Inigo I could see being, like, a cashier/bagger at a supermarket or something. I don't really know why, but I guess it's just easy to imagine him wearing the uniform and making small talk. He'd probably attend school plays and dance classes, though. Vaike would so be a teacher. Maribelle would be the daughter of the owner of a successful business who is also a... fashion adviser? I dunno, one of those people in high-end clothing stores who helps pick out the right outfit for you and get the best-fitting size and all that. Lon'qu would also be a cashier/clerk someplace. He probably has no idea what he wants to do with his life. Cherche would either be a secretary or a pet shop clerk, depending. Panne and Yarne would be outdoorsy woodworkers living on the edge of town. Yarne would be a boy scout and Panne would be a scoutmaster in his troop, because according to my younger brother's troop women can actually be scoutmasters in boy scouts. Tharja would... actually maybe be a psychologist, yes, this makes sense. Also a creepy holistic "medicine" brewer and maybe a drug dealer. Gregor being a policeman is yes. Chrom, Lissa, Emmeryn, Lucina and Owain would be members of the local rich family. Frederick is their butler. Owain would be a really nerdy, hyperactive kid who loves D&D and takes Kendo lessons from... Priam, who would be the personable Kendo tutor living on the edge of town in an old fashioned house. Brady would be the classmate who looks and talks like a thug and so gets written off as one even though he's really a very nice guy. Man, a lot of the kids would be grocery store clerks in my mind. Cynthia would be the super peppy student who's sort of "the cute one" in her group of friends (well, the cute one to them) and who probably works at a pizza parlor. Old Hubba would be still be a fortune teller, obviously. He'd also probably be a foreigner... you know, the whole Outrealms thing and all. either that or he's great at forging passports and/or is a human trafficker Virion might be a talk show host, CEO of some company or maybe a male model. Kellam would be a secret field agent whose superiors often forget him at inopportune times, making his job much more difficult than it would be otherwise. Or he'd have an underwhelming job at a supermarket or something. Take your pick. Libra would be a priest, obviously. Cordelia would be Severa's hardworking businesswoman mom who's barely ever at home. Gangrel would be a crime lord-turned-homeless-street punk Walhart would obviously be the CEO of some large, successful and constantly expanding company. Aversa would be a secretary who dresses just about as revealingly as she can without getting in trouble with her boss... Validar, the company manager who may or may not also be the head of a cult and/or a mob boss and is also Robin's father. The Annas would own a successful supermarket franchise, with the one recruited in-game running the local branch. Sumia would be a florist. Donnel would be a farmer or a rancher, obviously. Nowi would be a loose, carefree teen mom who's surprisingly hard to get really stressed out about anything. Maybe she has a paper route or something? Because of the above Nah would be a baby, a toddler or still in her mom's belly. Whoever suggested the Chon'sin siblings hotel idea, I agree with you. Noire would be the super-introverted mentally-disturbed nerdy goth girl who almost never initiates conversation with anyone unless someone hits a nerve in which case she goes berserk. Tiki would probably be a celebrity of some kind. Maybe someone like Oprah? Or she could be a religious leader. Flavia would be the town/city mayor and... Basilio would be the vice mayor. Robin would be the new guy/girl in town, having recently enrolled in a local college, unwittingly in the very same town/city in which his/her estranged father works. Morgan would be Robin's kid after some romantic plot development. The DLC and SpotPass characters are the random background townsfolk. The topic said to say what jobs I think the characters would have in real life but I ended up making a realistic modern-day AU instead. Whoops.
  17. I'm no expert but I'm guessing this has to do with the way the tossed sword's motions are programmed relative to the main body model. The designers probably just didn't think to program special animations to handle them blocking/dodging/taking damage mid-sword toss, so they didn't. It doesn't seem to screw up the game in any way, though it is kinda funny to see.
  18. I generally prefer units with higher growths, because with a bit of work they'll be helpful for the rest of the game (all you really need to do is get them up to speed and then you can just use them like a regular unit and they'll keep up on their own), whereas many units with good bases have comparatively low growths and will fall behind in the end. Of course, good growths AND good bases in the same unit are always lovely.
  19. I'd assume the intended question was "How do you pronounce Dolhr?" because asking how it's spelled in the same sentence you yourself spell it correctly would just be silly. I usually pronounce it like "DOLE-uhr". That said, it's actually a more accurate translation than Doluna (Doruua being a direct transcription of the Japanese name), although Doluna is certainly more easily-pronounceable.
  20. Same. Anyway, welcome! I hope you enjoy your time here!
  21. MAN-uh-keet. Pretty straightforward standard pronunciation conventions.
  22. I agree with this so much. Anyway, yeah, I would play the DS remakes. While Shadow Dragon isn't the most interesting Fire Emblem game, (it's hard to hate, being a remake of a classic, after all, but the remake doesn't do a whole lot to fix certain shortcomings), New Mystery is amazing. I don't think I've played through any Fire Emblem title all over again so quickly after finishing it for the first time. This second run was on Hard mode, no less, which was an exciting challenge. You can also play on Maniac or Lunatic if you want a difficulty level that will drive you up the wall.
  23. Just popping in to say that I love your avatar.

    Assassin!Lucina is adorable.

  24. Apparently all the non-Lord/Villain SpotPass characters are just one particular developer's top picks from their respective game plus some suggestions from other team members. The whole thing was really kind of a fun afterthought, it seems. At least they make a reasonably entertaining substitute for the generics from Marth's DS adventures. Doluna is actually the official European name for Dolhr, though. Although Rutoga does certainly raise a few reputability concerns...
