  1. It'd be cool for the community to make, sell and distribute a Fire Emblem-themed shirt (ignoring all the organization and trust that'd need). As for the shirt: whatever floats your boat, looks pretty neat and eye-catching~ ^^;

Just a minor update this time around, revamping an old splice. -> (Also I work a lot now so might be more sparse with returning/working on any critique people might have, fyi.)
  3. Shooting down would be "you bad person for even asking! Get out!". ---- Anyways, I agree that it's a grey issue, Ren, and I probably can't explain my reasoning clearly to you. I'll just give my perspective. In your credits, I feel that most people will be too lazy to find and compare the two works. I think it's good that you are giving credit, but in the same I find it hard to tell what you've really done yourself even after comparing it with the source image. I think it's fair for people to build off of resources from the games, since most people can readily recognize the origins. It's more unfair to build off a community artist's work, since most people aren't expected to know every artist and their works, and artists shouldn't be required to protect their work if they left it without a Creative Commons license. It's just a respect issue that personally I'd rather stay in favor of the artist.
  4. Even with credit and the best of intentions, some people don't want their stuff taken possession of and/or 'improved' via copy/paste/paintover. It's safer just to respect it than go around playing Robin Hood of Spriters, imo. If you're willing to make extensions to the animations, what's stopping you from just rebuilding the concept entirely? (Without copy-pasting metalflygon's bases?) That way you can still give credit for the idea, but the work you can claim as your own.
  5. I'd say no, the author's work stays the author's and doesn't magically go to public use, even if they fell out of communication. It's a little iffy since metalflygon gave the OK to Klok and didn't say anything about other people using their sprite mods, but I don't think absence of denial is permission in absence.

helmet + scarf combo can't be beat ^^ The design is simple, but I think it works out well given Glaceon's design and type. Shading is probably the issue. Just try to keep it as simple as possible: use a pre-existing palette (very important), reference legault+genericSoldier for the face shading, and look for simple/lowTrim armors to emulate for the plates and ear.

The wip looks pretty good, too bad Xiao Emblem is dead otherwise it'd be great for that ^^; But yeah, repeating what everyone else is saying, you could PM any of us for help (on any of your mugs) if you wanted to take that route. Not everything needs to be forced into completion, though, so do whatever you're comfortable with.

Woooww man, that guy just keeps on getting better each time you work on him. ^^ The work on the spaulder and breastplate is pretty amazing. I think the horns on the shoulders (and the cape) are still the weak point. Using all the colors in equal amounts like you've done there isn't typical FE-shading, and it doesn't seem to have worked out the same way it did for the helmet horn. (Might just be a matter of finding the right curves for it to work out). Still great work~
  9. Uther, Bramimond, Vigarde, Valter Theme: Disciple of Darkness --- RULES THAT YOU MUST FOLLOW: No mass 'made from scratch' areas. In other words, the final result should be made of and identifiable to areas from the source mugs. Only use the set given, no other mugs. Recommended color limit: 16 (15 on your mug +1 for background). This is a flexible rule, but be cautious with your color count as a general rule of thumb for good pixel art. You are allowed to deviate from the standard FE color choices if you want to do so. Don't vote for yourself or I will cry sad tears devoid of mod power. Hosts may enter contests. Only 1 mug per member. Winner of the contest will choose the next theme and a mug, runners-up will choose the remaining mugs once a theme has been decided. Voting consists of 2 categories: 'Best in Theme' (single choice) and 'Favorites' (multiple choice). 'Winner' is the popular vote for 'Best in Theme' and the runners-up are taken from the most popular two from both voting categories. If there is overlap (e.g. 2nd place is the same participant for both categories), a weighted average of the total votes will determine the remaining runner-ups. PARTICIPATION NOTES: In the past, there has been a lot of conflict surrounding what does and doesn't constitute proper splicing techniques. This is not the venue to repeat that argument (if you're interested in it, please look at old rounds between 50 and 65). Please remember to allow participants the freedom to experiment and find their comfort zone in splicing. Give them votes when you believe they're successful, but do not use their entry as a platform to tell the world what you don't like. If you have any questions or concerns, please PM the current host. Deadline: Saturday, October 11th, 2014 Have fun!
  10. Sure thing, deerhands~ I've got one in mind this time. Going to go ahead and get the next round going. wins Best in Theme, and also Popular Choice with 80% approval rating! Thanks guys! ;w; By the total votes everyone else was pretty close for 2nd: (Lt. Smirks - 13, Deer Hands - 12, Toa - 11, Nickt - 9 ) Smirks, Deerhands, and Toa will get the runners up mug choices. Great job from everyone who participated!
  11. Harken & Seth, Marcus and Raven (Use at least three of the above mugs in your entry) Theme: Overpowered Paladin (Jeigan archetype) --- 2 days to vote!

    My collection! :)

What do you mean by 'they chose the colors'? Did they say 'red', or hand you a palette? If they just handed a palette, Kayla's the only one who did well. Find and make an anchor point across the frames, and then use that to reference where the relative placement of things in each frame. Other than that it's just a matter of practice. No. Nooooooooo! Rescaling will leave a lot of messy compression and possibly additional colors, and is generally a no-no in pixel art unless you're very well aware of what you're doing and how you'll clean it up. As far as the splice resources, there's a sprite sheet of all the official characters of FE6/7/8. It should be more than enough for you to get started.
  13. http://www.ispyanimals.com/2013/03/the-creature-sitting-next-to-you.html This might help in identifying some points for helping you distinguish between the canids, at least. Foxes also have a very distinct coloration (although I'm not sure why you choose to go monotone in your sprites). I would very much suggest just trying your hand out at drawing out and then customing the animals instead. It's a bit better than saying 'I can't do that with splicing'. (I think you certainly can, but you have to get creative and think beyond the 'exchange same body part between characters' thinking.) Imo, I think Fa / the FE6 dragons were really well done. Fa has a babyDragon/chickyBird vibe and is adorbs in both forms, unlike the Tellius and FEA dragons turn into the sameish model regardless of the human form behind them.
  14. whoops the 3 weeks/October 4th was an error on my part, fixed. We'll try a Wednesday deadline**. I've been aiming for a deadline 1.5~2 weeks instead of 1 since the new format* started (so people have time to work on each round). Usually I always give one full weekend and call it due the Saturday after that. Depending on when people come back with the new set, that can vary the actual length of the round a lot. I can aim for just having it closer to at least one full weekend and more towards the 1~1.5 week length (ending on a Wednesday/Sunday/Saturday), and see how that goes. (Edit: *Looking back, I'm not sure when it started defaulting to 2 weeks instead of 1. ** if anyone is working on an entry and needs more time than the 1 week for this round, let me know.)
  15. Oh man, that's one nice splice, Toa~ (And Smirks, I guess that's the curse of 1st) --- I reshaded a lot of things, so here's a scrubbin' gif:
  16. The left looks much better! Think you try working that fourth tone in throughout the fur a little more and alias the outline where it meets the chestplate, but as-is it seems to fit the current style you have going on.
  17. The Tier II heron and crows are p' nice for your work, but I think this is old work to begin with? I think it'd be beneficial for you to try straying from the bases a little more for each class. The Fox/Coyote/Cat branches look the same at first glance, as do the dragons. Once/if you get to changing their colors and poses around it'll be hard to tell the difference between them.

Thanks guys ^^ Deerhands, I was pressed for time and couldn't find the pieces I wanted for a chef, so went with a generic splice for that round. and that's too bad, you have p' creative splices Yay androgyny~ (guess I could feminine things up but ah well) I lowered the neck a pixel and rounded the shoulders, but there's probably still a problem with 'em. ^^; Imo the angle is wrong, especially on the far side, and it's my usual slaponagenerictorso angle, but I can't be buggered to redo/polish this one.

I'm in the eevee party as well (fun, but tough!) :3 (Thanks to merc for providing me skintones and a ref~) Also cleaned up my splice from 107. A bit of custom work in the collar, cravat, eyes, and cape.

  21. (Fair enough.) Lt. Smirks wins! An honorable mention goes to Mark975 as well~
  22. Lloyd the White Wolf, Narshen, Karel (FE7), Merlinus (FE7) (Use at least three of the above mugs in your entry.) Optional theme: Chef, cooking --- Low turnout this round, so the voting scale is classic mode this time around. Winner will get theme+2mugs and 2nd will get to choose 2 mugs. 2 days to vote~
  23. Yeah go ahead! (At least show 'em off. ^^ ) One day left! Will there be more entries or will the two mustachio'd dudes be the only ones standing? Who knows! (Edit: My current generiWIP, not sure if I'll have enough time to clean it. )
