  1. It's supposed to be, but my state has a very small population so it should be reasonably fast (as in less than a year).

I feel like Far From the Forest is the hub of the forum, which it sort of always was, but yeah.

  2. To become a US citizen, so that my travel in and out of the US won't be restricted and I won't be discriminated against in the job market. Soon I too may hold a silly blue passport.

  3. Oh no, a term for a kind of wordplay was slightly misappropriated within the context of wordplay and it's still apparent exactly what was meant; the perpetrator must be dealt with by means of an aggressive rhetorical question. That'll teach him!
  4. I sort of want to change back already, but I can't for another twenty-odd days. 8[

I received my assigned date for my citizenship interview... and I have to miss my third day of classes for it, but at least it should be reasonably straightforward.

  5. You bastard. You bastard. English Breakfast tea is alright, I often use it tea to flavor milk I use as a base instead of water as part of the process of forging glorious milk tea, one of the greatest teas. Jasmine tea is quite nice as well; green tea is alright if there are no other choices available. Other flavored teas I sometimes put honey in instead of sugar, but usually I stick to milk tea and jasmine tea.
  6. Icelandic isn't a troll language. 8[ It has an immensely rich (and badass) literary tradition and, historically, contributed a lot of common vocabulary to Old English (as well as to many other languages) that persist to this day. The logic is relatively accessible to English speakers and the orthography distinguishes between "th" voiced and unvoiced with letters other languages (like English) dropped for no reason other than to make their scripts less sexy, it's fantastic! I don't know anything about Welsh except that it's Celtic and in sustainably active use... so I vote for that (sorry Raven, I mean nothing by it).
  7. I wouldn't have guessed the ox one; it makes sense, but if I didn't know which was correct and the real answer was put alongside Celice's I'd have guessed Celice's to be correct. Here are a few more: Elda grátt silfr. = Light (the verb: light by fire) grey silver. Vera snemma á fótum = To be early afoot. 腹が立つ。 = Stomach rises. (Not in general...) レッテルを貼る。 = To attach a sticker. 膝が笑う。 = Knees laugh. (Not in general)
  8. The conversation has moved on a bit, but in the event it's worth something: yes, chances are fair you'll develop some suboptimal habits, but if you play pieces you want to play and practice consistently and are playing primarily for yourself then there's nothing inadvisable about forsaking regimented instruction. You can always confer with a tutor or an experienced player later on or intermittently if you fear you're doing something wrong or otherwise believe doing so will be of help, and as long as you maintain your motivation your goal should be perfectly attainable in the not too long term.
  9. Let us hope that in facing a new menace you gain the power to do so, and my sister may be protected from the evil torrents of East Canada.

  10. You can't force the rain to stop, even sunglassed? 8[

  11. My sister is in Montreal. Apparently it is raining there. Please advise.

  12. Oops, I think I meant to end with "but admittedly it's been a long time since I've touched any of the books."

I think that .gif is an excellent demonstration of Voldemort's love of all living things....

  13. Offering free ports of twenty games (from long unsupported platforms, meaning I can play them on my PSP) that I can't imagine a large proportion of 3DS owners would have otherwise bought a significant percentage of seems an inexpensive way to mollify the reactions of early adopters who may feel ripped off having invested in the device only for its price to be cut by a third a few months after its release. I'm not going to speculate on market dynamics or developers' confidence in the viability of the platform because I can't be bothered to look for detailed, reliable 3DS hardware sales numbers and adjustments in Nintendo's profit forecasts, but I'll note that if I owned a 3DS I personally wouldn't be particularly pleased by this.
  14. That makes sense, though it's rather confusing that so much is left out of the saying. I'm reminded of the phrase "I could care less". More or less. It describes hurting oneself in trying to hurt another. Is this criticizing bureaucracy?
  15. I didn't take a screenshot of my desktop because it's empty aside from the taskbar and a Rainmeter clock. My wallpaper is the XMB background image for Valkyria Chronicles as ripped from the game disc. [spoiler=1920x1080] Here's a link to the ~2.5mb png: LINK
  16. Really? What does it mean? I interpreted it as meaning a friend who is in need of assistance, perhaps in the form of advice or money, is assuredly a friend, but that strikes me as odd as it seems to advocate for naïvely submitting to parasitic relationships. Does this mean to not respond to provocation (or perhaps petty provocation)? Here's a Japanese saying with spit: 天に唾する。 = To spit into the sky.
  17. Answers for mine in the spoiler: I haven't heard this one before, I can't tell if it's facetious or if I'm misinterpreting it.
  18. All of those listed thus far have had explanations provided for them, so here are some new ones. Brennt barn forðast eldinn. = A burned child avoids fire. Það er skammgóður vermir að pissa í skóna sína. = Warm a short time if you piss in your shoes. Eitt skyldi ganga yfir okkr bæði = One should walk over us both (Big hint: this one's old and poetic, pretend "fate" follows "one"). 足元から鳥が立つ。 = A bird stands from one's feet. 馬鹿は死ななきゃ治らない。 = An idiot not dead hasn't cured. 花より団子。 = Rather dumplings over flowers.
  19. Haha, sorry.

It was absolutely terrible seeing Voldemort approach Snape and bring up the topic of the Elder Wand's loyalty. I guess it's good at least that Snape was understood and remembered well in the end....

I think they did a pretty good job of keeping the film close to the original story, but admittedly it's been a long time since I've touched any of ...

  20. I found it here: http://bit.ly/nWcGOq

I'd forgotten some events until seeing them again on screen. Fred. 8[

  21. I watched Deathly Hallows part 2 today.
