  1. I suppose it was a little surprising but it's not too out there, considering what kind of characters they are. Bowser Jr's trailer was already rather dark and he is obviously a very cartonish character, nothing like a true monster as Ridley and not tied into horror like Simon Belmont.
  2. I recall I was kinda disappointed that this strange nightly mountain area were all the trailers took place in never became a stage. It looked pretty sick.
  3. It's not. It's also very factual. But okay, it's my fault for making an off-handed remark about Chrom being a piece of shit in a Smash thread. The consequences of that were absolutely foreseeable.
  4. I suppose this is pointless. People will love who they decide to love and will interpret anything that sounds vaguely negative about that character as a personal attack. Arguments will ensue that take up a lot of space but go nowhere because anything needs to be interpreted to fit with the premise that the character is a loveable person. And I didn't even get to say anything about Simon yet because of this. Who, btw, looks pretty damn awesome. Glad they didn't get with that red-haired leather look. I gotta say, he does actually invoke the image of his classic sprite.
  5. If she didn't, she is most certainly trying to get there. Tharja: Ah, finally, a perfect voodoo doll. Robin will have eyes only for me… Honestly, has anyone ever tried arguing that people like Valter and Narcian are not rapists just because it's not directly spelled out? Narcian only wanted to play with Clarine, why do people read so much into that?
  6. Why should he "babysit them"? The people of Plegia LITERALLY HELPED CHROM WIN. They kinda made a big deal out of that in chapter 11. Not that it should better because letting the innocent population die like that is just fucked up, even if it didn't lead directly to the Resurrection of Grima. And of course there is a zombie apocalypse going on. Did you never notice all those groups of Risen who keep appearing on the World Map? Why do you think they are there? And I'm pretty sure they show up in a lot of Paralouqes too. So they are quite active. I also have my doubts about most of the army surrendering, what with the map explicitly not ending after you kill Gangrel until you kill everyone, but it's not like that would matter. There is no one there to give them orders, or to pay them to risk their lives and whatnot. Honestly, it's not like it isn't a recurring element in the series that neglectful rulers lead to the population being harassed by bandits. Except there are also zombies here. Also, I'm not sure what you are saying is "not Chrom's fault" but the Grimleal claiming power and the Resurrection of Grima are absolutely his fault.
  7. I'm not a downer. As I made clear, I am looking forward to Chrom and the entire Direct was absolutely fantastic. It even sold me on K.Rool, who I never cared about before.
  8. No, having to "rebuild your own nation" is not sufficient reason to let a nation you conquered fall into chaos and being eaten by Risen. (Yeah, remember how there was still a zombie apokalypse going on during that time that nobody cared about?) And what do they need to rebuild? The entire invasion of Plegia occurred offscreen in chaoter 7. And they were making it a point to clarify that they were going to rob whatever resources they need from Plegia. So I think Chrom could have afforded not to be a complete sociopath. And to think the people of Plegia actually helped Chrom win that war. Man, they sure must have felt stupid afterwards. But yeah, sure sucks that Chrom didn't have anyone from the future who could have told him about Grima.
  9. ...he literally didn't do anything for 3 years. Edit: Well, okay he got married and knocked up his wife. So yaaaaay...
  10. Pretty sure Awakening did that already, what with him delivering the country of Plegia to the Grimleal, then fucking up the entire continent of Valentia and then sacrificing the future of his world just so he can keep humping his waifu. Guy caused more harm then any Fire Emblem villain ever did. The only character who compares is Yune, but her actions are meant to be horrible.
  11. Yeah, BotW gets Link's default appearance and a few of his moves. Meanwhile Awakening by itself gets three characters. You really don't see the difference here? And gee, don't try to play down BotW's success. Breath of the Wild did FAR better then Zelda games usually do. Remember, the series traditionally doesn't sell that well back in Japan. And besides making a ton of money, it was absurdly revolutionary. The series has become increasingly linear for decades, culminating in the infamous Skyward Sword. To think that the next big entry in the series would not only go against that trend, but also provide a level of openness that I haven't seen since Morrowind, that's pretty damn mindblowing. The only OoT newcomer in that game was Sheik. Ganondorf was just Ganon's most recent incarnation. And let's not forget that they just threw him in at the last minute by slapping Captain Falcon's moveset on the model from the Space World demo.
  12. Well yeah, from a purely cynical moneymaking angle. Still, Breath of the Wild was also so absurdly popular that Nintendo sold more copies then Switch consoles. And yet that game hasn't gotten three representatives so far. All it did was providing the design of Link and changed some of his moves. As much as I am looking forward to Chrom, it's pretty absurd.
  13. Hohoho, I can't wait to get my fingers on Chrom. There is a special place in my heart for this selfcentric, narcissist pile of human-shaped garbage. Much coping will occur.
  14. Honestly, I never considered the King to have a chance. I don't think I had any significant roles since DK64. Doesn't exactly help that DK has been around for far longer then he has.
  15. My issue with Simon is that he doesn't really have a recognizable design. His design always changed, and there is no common thread between all those designs that really screams "It's Simon Belmont!". In that regard Alucard would probably have been a better pick.
  16. The Double X challenge sure is rough. The Mega Buster seems to have really been nerfed for this mode, so If you don't know all the weaknesses those bosses take ages to take down. And they probably should have had health refills between matches. Or at least don't heal the bosses when you die. It's frustrating starting a match with a fraction of your health, knowing it won't be enough to last you to the end. I wish I had known that I could simply unlock a "practice mode" by breezing through the mode on Easy. That should make things a lot easier. And hey, it means I can already fight whatever boss I want on any difficulty I want, even if I haven't reached them yet.
  17. Also because it's just one letter away from being an anagram for Edgelord.
  18. That reminds me, I recall that as a kid it felt like there were the names that old people had and the names that younger people had. And I struggled to imagine that someone named Hilda or whatever could ever have been a kid because of that. I guess I didn't get the concept of "trends" back then.
  19. Considering Edelgard is a very real name, I doubt that. Though I don't think the name sees much use these days. I gotta say, I find it always kinda amusing when Japanese names give old German names to young characters because it just doesn't feel right. Anyway, personally I only used Edgelord until I was confident I could write out her name properly. Edgelord is already one of my nicknames for Corrin. And I don't want to relate any character to him unless I really mean it.
  20. In Basilio's case it's really more of a mix of plot armor + absurd levels of plot contrivance. Plus, do you think Goku would let someone fight in a tournament on his behalf? Even in the Cell games where he intended for Gohan to win, Goku made sure that he got to take a swing at Cell first. And make no mistake, he did that for himself. The anime adaption may have given Piccolo a line about Goku wanting to show Gohan how Cell fights but that's nonsense. If Goku merely wanted to give Gohan any advantage he could provide then he wouldn't have given Cell a Senzu Bean. Besides, anyone in that setting got killed at least once. Well, at least I think so. I haven't seen Ressurection F, so I don't know if Mr. Satan was among the ones who survived the destruction of the Earth. And I suppose Buu technically never died.
  21. The entire Renvall part in Sacred Stones was pretty damn hilarious. The place is made out to be this near impenetrable fortress but in just a few chapters it's taken over twice. The worst part is Ephraim breaking back into the place after previously escaping from it. It's basically like the scene from "Asterix in Britain" with the Tower of Londinium. Didn't find the clip uploaded in English unfortunately. But hey, physical comedy needs no words.
  22. What a farfetched accusation. The time traveler in Dragonball actually gives valuable information about the nature of the threat and where it appears instead of going all "the end is near" and just walking away without having said anything useful. He missed some information but that's probably because Toriyama doesn't plan ahead and makes stuff up as he goes along. This Cyborg case is a really infamous one, with each set of them being initially intended as the main villains until Toriyama's former editor voiced complaints. So that mess is not really Trunks' fault, after all he can't know stuff that Toriyama hadn't yet decided on. And once the threat in the past had been dealt with, Trunks actually went back to his own time to bring peace to that world as well instead of leaving it to burn. Although in retrospect he may not have needed to bother with that. And I wouldn't consider that cheap piece of plastic with a hole in it that Lucina wields a sword. I mean, come on.
  23. Can I just say that I love how Collection 1 has an achievement called "He's actually called Vava" for playing in both languages? That's so cute. Getting used to playing Zero in X4 is so rough after the Zero and ZX series. You are so much more flexible in those games. Maybe Omega got the inferior body after all. There also seems to be no consistent rule for how often I can hit a boss until their invincibility triggers. Sometimes I can hit them twice, other times it will trigger after the first hit. But it's fascinating to see that the moves you learn are actually useful, unlike their counterparts in the Zero series which were basically never worth using over Zero's core attacks.
