  1. The Madoka cast? Doesn't that require more hair colors then the Miis have? Anyway, I would like to try to create additional Fire Emblem Lords but without blue hair that doesn't seem to be possible... except for Leaf but he would lack recognizable features.
  2. The TRS system is pretty sweet, it's just unfortunate that most skills are useless as ever. Skills should extend the tactical options you have instead of being randomly triggered bonuses because that is something you can never rely on. But they do have their fair share of improvements in this game. Like, the Terrain skills are nice additions and Charge was turned into a skill that gets activated by the player. Now, I unfortunately haven't gotten to play it yet but the Skill list of Berwick Saga looks friggin sweet: http://serenesforest.net/wiki/index.php/Berwick_Saga_Skills Characters mostly benefit from skills all the time or they have to be triggered by the player. The few ones which are triggered entirely randomly during combat are almost purely defensive, so you don't even need to worry that a sudden offensive bonus ends up backfiring. Wrath and Adept are still around, though. And the skills are really good. Stuff like increasing movement but being limited to the wait command, multiplying the benefit of terrain bonuses, offensive boasts in exchange for not moving, additional attacks in exchange for accuracy... Lots of stuff here that should truly extend the versatility of units. Honestly, I don't think any Fire Emblem game cam claim to come close to this.
  3. I haven't seen anything that I find overblown. Honestly, I find this enthusiasm quite endearing. I'm glad that other people can get more exited about the game then I can.
  4. Or it's simply because Ike had no reason to use it until this point. After all, characters can't look up the stats of weapons.
  5. However, the Black Knight won't even attack Mist in the first place. How can you teach Ike Resolve before the Black Knight battle? You get it in chapter 27-1 and there is no opportunity to visit the base before 27-2.
  6. Tough question. I mean, things are difficult for different reasons. Awakening and Thracia are pretty much polar opposites in terms of design. The scenarios in Awakening never change significantly: Units with random classes with no particular positioning charging from all directions. The only significant thing that does seem to change from battle to battle were the stats of the enemies. So the difficulty is less about how one tackles a particular chapter but about munchkining, to find ways to squeeze the largest possible amount of power out of units so they grow faster then the enemies. Now in Thracia, enemies never get much stronger but the scenario varies a lot. Because of this, seemingly weak enemies can turn out to be a massive pain but even well thought-out scenarios can still be crushed by pure power. And being a very secret-heavy game, that degree of power can be obtained easier and easier on repeated playthroughs. So I would say it's pretty much all apples and oranges here.
  7. Imagine Seth was the Lord of Sacred Stones. Except that he would still get as much EXP per kill as Franz.
  8. Recruitment Theme: Comrades (The Sacred Stones) Map Theme: A Hero's Destiny (Shadow Dragon) Personally I think this song is essentially the pre-FE12 Fire Emblems in a nutshell. Even the dullest maps feel meaningful when this theme plays. Preparations Theme: Combat Preparation (Sacred Stones) Battle Theme: Battle 1 (Gaiden) I prefer to credit the original song rather then the remake in the FE8 arena. Arena Theme: Theme of the Arena (Tear Ring Saga) Though there is not much competition for this slot since I don't take remixes of past battle themes into account. Final Map Theme: Land of Promise (Sacred Stones) Enemy Phase: Trial (Tear Ring Saga) Event Music: A World of Sorrow (Path of Radiance) "Ah, gods. Eighteen long years...What does any of it mean now?" Boss Theme: Wisdom of Ages (Radiant Dawn) It starts of as merely a tense piece but the presence of King Dheginsea quickly overshadows the ungodly power of the Black Dragon. Truly a piece that makes one feel the weight of many centuries. Character Theme: Queen Elincia (Radiant Dawn) The contrast to Elincia's upbeat theme from the previous game makes it a very powerful theme. Victory Theme: Victory 2 (Genealogy of the Holy War)
  9. Honestly, I think that bosses usually don't move takes the fun out of beating them. Like, somebody like Valter, a psychopathic stalker and rapist should be fun to kill normally. But he simply doesn't feel threatening when he can't move and allows you to fight him entirely on your own terms. I mean, he is pretty much helpless that way. Well, unless you forget that he has Pierce, I guess. This is why I enjoy bosses in Gaiden in general, since they all move if they don't already charge you in the first place. And they are smart enough to retreat onto a healing field, so you have to really think how to tackle these guys or you might have to fend them off several times before you can realistically prevent their retreat. So they are all very satisfying to overcome. But when it comes with individuals, the most satisfying kill was definitely Tharja. I mean, the nicest thing one can say about her is that she at least needs a reason to hurt people. It just so happens that a reason for her can be something like "annoyance", "convenience" and "curiosity". And she never ever suffers any consequences for her actions. Heck, she can rape somebody and end in a marriage for it. She can even confess crimes that she didn't actually commit and all it gets her is that Frederick will be slightly more vehement in his insistence that she should train. I didn't actually plan to kill her originally. It's just that I made a mistake, so I found myself in a situation were I had to get rid of her in some way and recruitment was no longer an option. I think these circumstances actually made her death all the more satisfying. Plus, she actually has a death quote that implies that she did indeed die, unlike what would happen if she gets defeated as a player character. To think that the death theme could sound this lovely. Another example would be Reidrick. He is truly an extraordinary scumbag. What really seals the deal with this guy is that he forced Marita to hurt her mother. Now it is possible to find rationalizations and excuses for most of the things he does if you try hard enough. But not for this one, it's just evil for evils sake. You also have to keep in mind that he did defeat Leaf. You have no choice but to suffer the humiliation of defeat and escape, leaving victory to him. This makes it all the more satisfying to come back later with an army in tow. Especially since he isn't even the driving force of the plot. By the time he shows up again, you are probably really looking forward to the reunion. Like I said, lack of movement takes the fun out of fights. But Reidrick is a special case. Besides him being a major douche, his most defining attribute is his cowardice. Heck, Eyvel made him wet himself when she was trapped in the arena and he was protected by his troops, a powerful Bishop who can turn people to stone and an immensely powerful enchanted sword. It's just so appropriate for him to end this way, cowering in the throne of Manster which he earned through his backstabbing, nowhere to run, protected only by a sword whose limits will soon be demonstrated by the people he wronged. So it's always fun killing this guy. My favorite method is Marita with the Darkness Sword. But breaking the protection of the Lopto Sword is always fun. One could lament the lack of boss conversations but I think this does in no way demean the feelings of the player towards this guy. And there would be Kempf. Since just about everyone in Thracia is a decent person, a petty little shit like him really stands out. The fact that he manages to escape when he is first encountered makes his ultimate defeat all the more sweet. The appropriate way to kill him is to have Olwen talk to him in order to provoke him into leaving the protection of the ballista. This way, his massive ego will lead to his well deserved downfall. I think Renshien from Tear Ring Saga is also worth mentioning. Like in Thracia, most members of the empire are decent people. This guy? Among other things, he killed his own mother and mocked his father before his demise. Unlike Kempf, he isn't even petty. He does things like this on a whim. And he is adorably confident in his ability to overcome Runan. This makes it so much fun to slowly break his delusions, by defeating his "Invisible Army", by freeing Rina, by re-recruiting Arkis, by crushing his cute little "prisoners" trap, by overcoming his bodyguard and by demonstrating that even the mightiest sword is just a toy when it's being used by a pathetic brat like him. And his defeat at the hands of Julia is pure gold. I haven't defeated him with Vega yet but I bet it's pretty good too. Edit: Oh, and recently I finally managed to beat the Black Knight in Rivals Collide recently. With Ike no less, something I didn't even planned since I thought there was no way I could get his HP down to such a small number without killing him. It felt pretty good... well, until I remembered that killing him prevents you from watching Ike's memory scene...
  10. Well, technically Ike can at least get rid of the Black Knight because he will simply leave if Ike survives a clash with him. (After providing him the exposition about his armor and Ragnell, which also means that Ike will no longer challenge the BK in the cutscene after the battle.) Not that there is much of a point to it since you can just avoid him entirely.
  11. I have yet to play FE1, BS Fire Emblem and Berwick Saga. I feel kinda tempted to add "PoR Maniac mode" as well. PoR is my favorite entry in the franchise but in all these years I still haven't completely experienced it yet.
  12. Yeah, if read about this just now. Spring Breeze can be played Co-op by looking on the screen of the first player, which is probably a massive pain to do. And besides the mini-games, it is the only mode which allows this for whatever reason. Maybe because it's the smallest non-mini game of the bunch. After all, there has to be a limit on how much data can be stored on the DS in Download-Play mode. Well, either way Co-Op options are heavily limited with only one cartridge. Edit: Btw, could it be that in your response to TalesofHysteria further above, you mistook Kirby's Adventure Wii for the original Kirby's Adventure? In case there is any confusion, "Kirby's Adventure Wii" and "Kirby's Return to Dreamland" are the same game. The name simply depends on the region.
  13. Huh? I thought she was talking about Super Star (Ultra) in the post I replied to. It's from a few posts earlier.
  14. However, the remake has at least the disadvantage that you need two copies of the game in order to play co-op.
  15. Above all else they are balanced by usually being limited to one of each weapon. Even when they could be bought in the DS games, they were limited to 3 each. And the ones that can be bought in the Creature Campaign in FE8 just aren't affordable. Not to mention that after the SNES games, they stopped being such uber weapons because they got nerfed in power and accuracy... until they could be forged, allowing that effect to be negated for a small additional fee. I think they can only be really considered broken in Tear Ring Saga and Awakening. In the former because they are the same uber weapons as in the console FEs but with even more charges (70-90 depending on the type) and can be repaired with a normal Repair Hammer if you somehow run out of charges. And in Awakening because IS essentially made them a regular upgrade to Silvers: Increase the required weapon rank by 1, reduce the Hit by 5 and increase the price by around 50%, just like with every other weapon tier.
  16. I wish they came back. It makes support bonuses feel more personal and less like a mere stat boost.
  17. I wish Samurai Warriors had a glitch like that. I would love to see somebody else using Kotaro's gauntlets. They are somehow always the only weapon which cannot be used by custom characters, probably because they involve stretching limbs.
  18. Well, originally I didn't plan any roleplaying. But after playing the demo I imagined a similar relationship between Robin and Chrom like between Kiff and Zapp Brannigan from Futurama, so the Avatar got her name from Kiff. However, she ended up being way too often in the center of attention for this to work. So over the course of the game, she ended up more like Red Mage from 8-Bit Theater. While Kiff technically tries to be good, she doesn't actually understand what this means. She has absolutely no respect for live and doesn't care about things that don't directly involve her. Essentially she sees her world like it was a video game: She is at the center and those who end up as her enemies are Goombas that only exist to be stomped. It doesn't occur to her to care about people whose names she doesn't know or that the world is so complex that there are issues beyond killing "bad guys". This makes her different from Chrom who is genuine good but merely too stupid to realize stuff like the problems that are caused by the power vacuum left by Wallhart. Killing people is as naturally to her as breathing but she will not kill anyone unless she has an actual reason for it. That's why she didn't join with Grima: Everyone was already threating her as a god, so Grima had nothing to offer to her other then a first row seat in a pointless massacre. She thinks she is a brilliant tactician but her plans are just a pile of nonsense. They work anyway because she has reality-warping powers that she uses instinctively to make things happen her way. This power is based on her bloodline. This is why Vallidar can use a power source that doesn't exist in order to survive a lethal blow and Grima can revive himself without the help of the MacGuffin: They all share the same powers and the same idiocy that prevents them from noticing that they actually have them. She has the same kind of hypnotic effect on people that Julius was described to have in FE4. Combined with her reality-warping, this is the reason why everyone likes her and believes she is a genius She also doesn't like male nudity. Not sure how she still ended up with two children but this is why female and male Shepherds are wearing different uniforms: Originally the skimpy female versions were actually the standard versions and were therefore worn by both genders. But because Kiff threw sharp objects at every male in range who used them, they made separate male uniforms that cover more skin. The exception of this is Vaike because he never noticed it since people throw stuff at him all the time due to him being such a pain.
  19. I'm afraid this will continue up to and including chapter 10. However once you've made it through the game once, you can start a new game right from chapter 11.
  20. Since when is "everybody else is doing it" an accessible excuse? I get the concept of peer pressure but I don't see that applying here. As if the fact that those images are accessible because of some asshole changes anything about them being nobody's business but the people featured on them. If something was okay simply because it was possible, then we wouldn't need any laws ever. And you do seem to at least think that your topic will make a difference, given that you wrote in your OP that you made this topic specifically so that "the good people here know they exist".
  21. Okay, how could one's conscience possible allow someone to go after those images? It's bad enough that the privacy of these people has been violated, but there is no need to turn yourself into an accomplice of the act too.
  22. Definitely Fire Dragon. The game tries to pretend that a single mindless dragon would be this big treat to humanity but Mankind was able to wipe out the entire dragon race just fine without the help of the divine weapons. And this was before the Ending Winter weakened the dragons even further. Not to mention that in order to justify this fight (and Ninian's death earlier), the story had to ignore the Elibe Manakete rules, which say that Manakete cannot maintain their dragon form because of the energy consumption. Instead they randomly went with the Akaneia rules which say that Manakete that turn into dragons become insane instead. It's not like they simply forgot about the Elibe rules either because according to Nils, when he and Ninian came through the gate, they could not have survived as dragons and had to turn human and seal their powers inside a dragon stone in order to "breath the air of this world". Even if we assume that both rulesets somehow apply for whatever reason, it still means that the Fire Dragon could not have maintained it's form long enough to be a danger to anyone not on the island. It would probably have fallen into the sea before even reaching the continent. An the fight wasn't all that good either.
