  1. Personally, I'm one to check prices before I consider making a purchase, and if the price isn't posted clearly I'll ask. However when I do get in situations like this, I find it's best to politely decline, even if you do feel a little guilty. I'm not sure what an empenada is (sounds like some sort of food, but don't laugh at me if it's something dirty or funny), but if I was in that situation I would just say something like "thanks, but that's a little too expensive." Anyone who deals with customers be it on the phone or otherwise is used to things like this, and will be understanding of the situation- or if they get aggressive about it, they won't be keeping their job much longer. In the best case scenario, the manager may be informed of people rejecting something due to prices being too high, and will consider lowering them in the future- if you think something seems expensive, you're probably not the only one.
  2. I played this a few years back. I always thoughy the title sounded like it could be the name of a rock band or something, but it's a fun game. Let me know if you get stuck somewhere- I might be able to land a hand. I'm not sure how familiar you are with Nippon Ichi, but I'll give the standard warning regardless. As with any NIS game, be prepared for lots of level grinding, random pop culture references, and cameos when you least expect it.
  3. Without spoiling the events of the Valm arc, I'll just say briefly that cliches and filler don't go hand in hand, though sometimes they can. Some pretty major events happen there, even though little about the overarching plot is revealed. As for filler, it can, if used properly provide some (possibly comic) relief from the tension of the plot. From a gameplay perspective, it also grands additional opportunities to raise your characters' levels and lengthen the play time without overstretching the plot. Used improperly, it can put the audience to sleep and make them forget about the main plot. A positive example would be the battle with Cervantes and his army before reaching Tiki. This could have easily been a standard "Protect the NPC!" chapter against a ruthless general who fights for the thrill of the kill, but IS decided to give a break from the tension. Instead we have a more straightforward fight that provides a decent enough challenge, but can still be taken at a leisurely pace (your mileage may vary depending on the difficulty level), and need we forget the epic comic relief?
  4. I've had several of these ideas. Lucky Seven: This is a skill for a fan-made class of mine, the Gunslinger (and its promotion Sharpshooter). As the name implies, this class wields handguns, which along with hand cannons form the "Missile Trilogy" by which guns beat bows, bows beat hand cannons (weilded by Cannoneers and their promotion Cannon Troopers), and hand cannons beat guns. Back to the skill, it has a Luck% chance of activating, overriding Hit, Avoid, and Critical for both player and enemy, and resulting in two to seven (randomly selected) shots at half power to the enemy with a guaranteed hit rate. Lucky Seven only activates if a handgun is equipped. Statwise, Gunslingers and Sharpshooters are similar to ranged Myrmidons/Swordmasters, so this is basically their equivalent of Astra, learned by Sharpshooters ar level 5. Flame Booster: Gives the users's handgun attacks a fire/anima attribute on the Trinity of Magic. Attacks are still considered physical handgun-based in all other aspects, and are still counted on the Missle Trilogy as well. This is learned by Gunslingers at level 15. Advantage: Cannoneer skill, learned at level 15. Luck% chance of "mimicking" the enemy's disadvantageous weapon on the Weapon Triangle or Trinity of magic, granting all associated bonuses. This skill does not activate against bows or handguns, and will only activate if a handgun or hand cannon is equipped. Trap Mastery: This is a skill for Rogues, learned at level 1 in games where all Thieves and their promotions gain Locktouch, so to give them something that Assassin's don't get. This allows Rogues to set traps, purchased from certain shops, on any adjacent, passable tile. When a trap is placed, an icon will appear over the tile, though this can only be seen by the army whose rogue has placed that particular trap (in other words, enemy units can't see them). The trap is activated when any unit, friend or foe passes or stops on the tile. Depending on the trap's effect, the unit may or may not be able to finish their turn. As most traps are activated by stepping on them, flying units generally don't activate them, but there are exceptions. When a Rogue sets a trap, they are granted some EXP. Used wisely, enemy units can be 'lured' onto spaces with traps. A few examples of traps are as follows. Landmine - Creates a small explosion when activated, damaging the unit. The unit is still able to continue moving, and can finish his/her turn if the damage isn't lethal. Tripwire - Halts the trapped unit's movement, ending their turn when the trap is activated. Pitfall - Damages the unit and instantly ends their turn. This trap is rarer and more expensive than the Landmine and Tripwire traps. Arrow Trap - Activated by movement rather than touch, this trap sends and arrow flying at the unit for some damage. This trap can be activated by flying units. Poison Snare - Ends the unit's turn and inflicts poison status. Disable Trap: Learned by Rogues at level 5, and perhaps other classes as well, this automatically activates when the unit steps on a trap. Rather than suffering its effects, the trap is detected and destroyed before it activates.
  5. Without a doubt it would have been nicer. It also bugs me how they have that eerie glow around them. I know they're supposed to be phantoms, but it makes me not want to use them at all because of how off they look, not to mention some of their designs don't look a thing like they did in their original games. Using their original artwork is also kind of jarring, especially when the drawing style is very different from Awakening's. I'm sure this was done to save data space (the game is already huge) and production costs, though.
  6. Breath of Fire Emblem, anyone? Kidding on that one, but the name sounded cool. Seriously though, I could potentially see IS crossing FE with some of its other series. A Panel De Pon (Known as Puzzle League in America) game with FE characters would be pretty cool to see; perhaps something like Tetris Attack or Pokemon Puzzle League. A crossover with Wars seems unlikely despite the gameplay similarities, but if they're willing to mix with SMT, then who knows. I would love to see a fully decked out Great Knight owning a (modern) tank with a critical hit. Another tactical RPG series could work though. Perhaps Shining Force, which has been around almost as long as FE could be a good choice, though FF Tactics or DIsgaea would be fun as well. FE and Pokemon crossover would be amazing, but since the latter already did one with Nobunaga's Ambition (and I'm seriously hoping for a Pokemon Conquest 2), this probably won't happen.
  7. I don't know much about androids because I've never owned one. From what I've heard about them however, they do have longer batter lives than iPhones. As a proud iPhone 5 user though, I do highly recommend it if you can afford it and don't mind the battery life. While the battery won't last as long as a droid or a classic styled cellphone, it's always lasted 1-2 days for me, and I have no issue so long as I remember to plug it in before I go to sleep at night. I've had very good experience with Apple's customer service, and there's a very large selection of apps to choose from, including games. If you like playing games on your phone, the Appstore has titles in pretty much every genre you can think of, including classic Final Fantasy games. I'm sure the Android has a good game library as well, though I wouldn't know what's available for it.
  8. RSI is a condition that's often associated with working at computers for extended periods of time on a regular basis. I'm a little surprised that Sakurai is sharing his health condition publicly, but I don't doubt it's validity. Depending on the severity of the case, several kinds of treatments are available ranging from physical therapy to surgical. While it saddens me that a came I've been anticipating for a while might be delayed, I'm sure Sakurai will make the best decision for his health, even if he needs to take some time off to address it. In the meantime we'll just need to be patient. As you've said, it's certainly not a fatal condition, but it can put a sufferer in terrible pain if it's left unchecked.
  9. Just bought the game today and I'm loving it. It would be nice if your own characters as well as NPCs were just as animated as the monsters and not static images, but that's not a big deal. I was hoping to see some of the EO3 classes making a return (I especially loved the Prince/Princess and Farmer classes), but at the same time I'm not missing them terribly. My dungeon crawling desires are most happily satisfied. I decided to do with a well-rounded party, not favoring offense or defense, though I may rearrange things as I unlock the later classes. My Runemaster seems pretty weak right now, but if RPGs say anything about mage-types, she'll become the most powerful member of my party later. I noticed that sublcassing is back, though like the last game it's unlocked later and I'm not that far yet (I just started). I've given it some thought however. My guild consists of the following five members presently. You can see the naming scheme.   10. I played the first three games a while back and enjoyed them. They presented quite the challenge, but despite feeling overwhelmed I found them to be great games. I'll probably pick up the fourth one at some point after I finish with Awakening. From what I've seen of it, the graphics look amazing.

  12. I'll open my post with a quote from Karen of Johto's Elite Four. "Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled trainers should try to win with their favorites.' That being said, I tend to use the characters whom I've become most attached to their backgrounds and personalities. I do take stats into consideration however, and I will avoid using units whom I know to not be useful. I play more casually, though I'll occasionally challenge myself to a Hard Mode, and I always restart if one of my units is defeated (unless of course it's in Casual Mode). I also tend to prefer magic users because they're versatile when it comes to range, though they can be hard to raise at first. Bug dang, high leveled Sages and Valkyries sure hit hard and dodge a lot (most of them anyway). I've never tried drafts before, though it looks interesting and I may give one a shot in the future.
  13. I'm more the type to grab some popcorn and get ready for a good laugh when I encounter flame wars. I try not to take the "bait" that a flamer presents, and move on ignoring the content.
  14. If I could only pick one aspect (which in this case is true), I'd go with the characters. What sets Fire Emblem apart from other titles in the SRPG genre is the detail and attention given to each and eveery playable character. In most strategy RPGs like FF Tactics and Disgaea (I'm not dissing either of those), there's a handful of characters with relevance to the plot, but everyone else in your group are generic units, identital in ability and appearance to other members of their class. These "characters" have no bearing on the story and for some reason blindly follow you to the gates lf Hell or wherever the story is taking you. FE handles things quite differenty. Every character who joins your army is unique. They have their own backstory, their own motives for helping your cause, and a part to play in the overarching story. Even many enemy bosses receive this type of treatment, which makes them more than just walls of HP standing on the gate you need to seize.
  15. I don't see the upgrade as worthwhile unless you needed a new system altogether. If my 3DS suddenly stopped working and there was no way to repair it, then I might buy an XL for the larger screen. The biggest thing to consider, at least from how I see it. is your lifestyle. The original 3DS fits in small pockets, purses, etc more easily, so it might be a better choice for someone who enjoys their games on the go (like me). If you mostly play in your home however, you might want an XL for that larger screen. Of course even the XL isn't terribly huge in comparison to its smaller brother, like how the original brick-sized Gameboy was to the Gameboy Pocket that was released later.
  16. I've been looking forward to a sequel to Luigi's mansion for years. This is truly awesome news. The original was a great parody of the survival horror genre, so I have very high hopes for this. Given that there's multiple mansions to explore in this game, I'm expecting Toad to say something like, "Thank you Luigi! But your brother is in another mansion!" The Mario and Luigi games have always been stellar in my opinion, and this shouldn't be an exception. I'm not expecting Fawful to return as the villain, but I'm still looking forward to this as well as Super Luigi U. It's great that Luigi's getting the attention he deserves and isn't living in the shadow of his brother. On a side note, I would have loved to see some spinoffs based on some of the other characters as well. Another Yoshi's Island/ Yoshi's story game perhaps, or even a sequel to Super Princess Peach.
  17. I know it was stated a while back that an original 3DS title would be produced, but two is even better. I'd prefer them both to be new games, but I'd be satisfied if one turned out to be a remake. I'd be curious to see if the games(s) would feature touch screen-based controls like Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks ore more classic button controls, using the touch screen to navigate menus. OoT's remake made stellar use of both, so I'd be happy to see that game engine recycled for this.
  18. I've always thought of it as a pretty innocent holiday even during the times when I've been single. I've never really celebrated it with anything special, nor did I get my fiance a card or a gift. We did say "Happy Valentine's Day" to each other when we woke up, but that was it. I sent my daughter off to school with a pack of cards and some candy to give out, because the school recommended that everyone does. This was done in my elementary school as well, and is a common, again innocent practice. Personally I don't believe there needs to be a special day of the year devoted to love, since I express my love for my fiance every day. However, I take no objection to an innocent holiday where children exchange greetings and candy, nor do I mind if other couples prefer to take the day more seriously.
  19. My daughter's name is Luna, It's one of my favorite names. I've never played FE Gaiden, but from what I've seen of it, it's got amazing graphics for an NES game. Anyway, welcome to SF!   20. Some of the answers come as no shock to me, like many people having Grandmaster as the final class, though I was shocked that I was the only person whose Avatar married Chrom. Of course I was the only one with a female Avatar at the time of taking the survey, but I found that to be a little shocking too. However, only a small number of people have taken it so far, so trends can't really be spotted just yet. I'll be keeping an eye on this. Personally, my Avatar looks nothing like me, though we share a birthday. Her name is Mint because I had just finished a run of Tales of Phantasia before starting Awakening. She's build 3 (tall) and has blond hair in a ponytail. I've successfully married her to Chrom.

I've found myself addicted to Awakening myself but due to work, family, and Pokemon obligations I haven't managed to complete it yet, nor am I even close. I would also recommend that you finish SD, as well as check out the Tellius series and GBA games if you can get your hands on them. They're all great in their own right.   23. This scene was a real tear jerker for me, even with some prior knowledge of the story before I started playing the game. I'm more than impressed with the depth of story and character in this game. There have been plenty of support conversations that made me laugh out loud as well. I'm becoming rather attached to my units. [sarcasm]Unless it's Batman or Superman, then yes. [/sarcasm]
  24. I'm a little surprised that "Blue Dragon" isn't among your favorite video games. If you haven't played it yet, it's an RPG for the Xbox 360. It's not the greatest RPG ever made, but it's got some pretty well known people behind it (Nobou Uematsu and Akira Toriyama to name two), and it's definitely worth playing at least once.
