  1. Ok FINALLY, someone who can hack that wants to do this. I've been wanting to do this for over 2 years now despite having no hacking skills- so much so that I thought of a name for such a project, "Project Mila" (to go with Project Naga) and I actually scoured the internet for a month to hunt down the man himself, Artemis. Here's the important thing he told me: The ROM itself basically NEEDS to be ASM hacked if you want to implement official names for classes, he had a hell of a time with "Dread Fighter" specifically (I convinced him to attempt an ill fated redux of the patch), and he admitted it came down to him taking a lot of shortcuts to get the game out within a month like he did, since the character limit is so small. So you may have to end up gutting the ROM to really implement names like "Luthier" and "Dread Fighter" One more thing: Quite a few names from Gaiden show up in Fates, not just Awakening. So check BOTH 3DS games for official names, I know there's an entire einherjar style DLC dedicated to Gaiden in Fates (Witch's Trial) and weapons like Ragnarok reappear for the first time since Gaiden in Fates. EDIT: this is just an opinion but since "Teeta" is clearly a reference to Nyna, to the point they share the very same Sprite edited, I think her name should (perhaps) be rendered as Tyna or Tina. ALSO, it's been proven that Siegbert in Fates has the same first syllable as Camus's alias (Jiku), meaning that we got an official translation for Camus's alias in this game in the same way Kurth got his in Kurthnaga- in this case, Sieg. http://fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/Siegbert http://fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/Camus Look at the Japanese renderings of the names for the characters (THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF GAIDEN NAMES SHOWING UP IN FATES)
  2. From what I know (granted I'm not 1000% certain as this is hearsay from the wiki and from memory; I.E. I heard this well over a year ago) Fire Emblem was based on Famicom Wars, but the idea was to cross breed that with RPG elements. The game was, apparently, not expected to be successful and was mainly a doujin project (take this last part with a grain of salt as it's the haziest in my memory) On that note, the idea of the Tactician in FE7 and later the Avatars of 12, 13, and 14 were all inspired by Commanding Officers featured in Nintendo Wars from Super Famicom Wars onward.
  3. Is it true? Is Project Naga in a playable state? I AM SO GLAD TO STILL BE ALIVE All the officially localized names (mostly from Awakening) are still used in this patch right?
  4. Probably why no NoA name was mentioned so I decided to point out the oversight before it was too late I especially doubt there wuld be the disclaimer of "Im using official names all of them no matter how stupid so you can't change that" and then make this one exception unless it was an oversight; the lack of an NoA name being listed supports that. They do acknowledge the noa name for Light is Lightning, when they made that minor change to it.
  5. That is an absolutely pitiful excuse, especially since you're calling him Lewyn in this translation. That's like keeping Sileph as Serlis to avoid confusion. You could at least acknowledge the NoA name is "Levin Sword" in the chart, but the fact an NoA name isn't even mentioned makes it seem like you just didn't do your homework. My question was are they therefore going to be most consistent with Archanea or are they going to be consistent with the GBA games or Tellius in terms of their translation whenever there is conflict between translations for certain items.
  6. now we just need an FE12 avatar customizer, then the set will be complete! Except for FE7 but that's literally Name/Gender/Birthday e.e
  7. I want to point this out before it's too late WHY ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH IS THE LEVIN SWORD TRANSLATED AS "BOLT SWORD"? It's the official NoA name after all, and smash bros. has made it a sort of spotlight item, for better or worse. Also, Jugdral is connected to Archanea, correct? Are you attempting to be most consistent name wise with the GBA games, the Tellius Games, or Shadow Dragon? Since Jugdral is connected to Archanea....
  8. I'd really like to get ahold of him to ask a few questions about ASM hacking FE2 =/
  9. Again it's that the japanese font matches the GBA or FE3 font more so it should be either fe7's english logo with a gold recolor, FE11's logo with a gold recolor, or just copy paste FE5's english logo here and color it gold =/ Based on the japanese font alone
  10. It's not even that I dislike Awakening's title font it's just the font of the Japanese text for Awakening/Fates is completely different from the font for FE4; FE4 closely resembles the font used for FE3, FE6, FE7, FE8, and the tiny little Japanese text title in FE9's logo (not the big english font). it should look like either Shadow Dragon's english title, the English title used for the two english GBA games, or just copy and paste the english logo font from Thracia and recolor it gold.
  11. Please tell me the FE4 title isn't based on the 3DS games' in this project. The title logo resembles closely the style of the Japanese GBA games, plus Thracia 776 has an english fe logo (sort of) Why not make it based on GBA or Thracia?
  12. I have a question.... Where exactly in official NoA media is "Loptyr" used? Spotpass character's quotes? And um... any estimate as to when the patch will be released......?
  13. OMG how did you do it? I'm assuming we can at least do peer-to-peer battles
  14. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Hu7A8ymnj8 https://github.com/polaris-/dwc_network_server_emulator http://www.polygon.com/2014/6/20/5775924/how-to-get-ds-wii-online So apparently someone is recreating Wi-fi. This makes me wonder a whole slew of things about FE11, FE12, and the HoS FE12 Fanslation. Are Wi-Fi Battles back in buisiness? Can the HoS patch do them? What about the Wi-Fi Shop? And unit storage, can I store the gaiden chapter characters and retrieve them in a normal game? I'm a bit excited for both DS FE games, and was wondering if anyone else has been able to emulate Wi Fi connection in some way... I really want Caeda to be a Falcon Knight by Chapter 20...
  15. Is this patch dead, finished, or still in development?....
  16. Ok I actually want to explain the reason I personally obsess over the names. About 60% of the allusions to mythology and the personality of the characters themselves lie in the names. It's not just one or two characters; it's actually quite ludicrous the amount of effort IS and Nintendo put in to make just about every playable character's name have some kind of special meaning. Draug is guard backwards, Ike is said to be a reference to U.S. President Ike Eisenhower because of the circumstances of their presidency and lordship (both being experienced war fighters who rose to some kind of political power), which is only further enforced by "We like Ike", which was his campaign slogan, Marth being a corruption of Mars, the Roman god of war, as Marth is a solid war general, Julius being a name common to royalty, Sigurd being a hero of Norse Mythlogy, Idun being the Norse guardian of the apples of eternal life, Roland being the titular character of the Song of Roland who weilded Durandal.... Hell, it even extends to default avatar names, Kris being a diminutive of Christopher (he who follows Christ, which is more than likely Jesus symbolism for Marth) and Robin, while I cannot confirm, my English teacher insists means "brilliant minded one"; it could also be taken to mean "fame". I can go on for literally 8 pages, gringe, but I'll spare you. This is also why it's of HUGE importance to use official names; Nintendo/IS is saying "this is the reference we're making" or "this is the trait of this character" and not any other name's reference. I don't want to terrify you with how specific some names might have to be, but i've even seen this extended to weapons; the first to come to mind is that "Imhullu" is a plague of wind from if I recall Norse mythology, and of course I've mentioned Durandal
  17. I am attempting to redownload the patch from the heroes of shadow site and all I get when I try is a 404... Anyone else having this issue?
  18. I want to point out to gringe the official title of FE1 is "Shadow Dragon and the BLADE of Light", not Sword of Light. Along with Nintendo insisting it's Binding Blade, it seems they are translating Tsurugi as Blade, and not Sword. Also by that logic, FE7's official title would be Blazing SWORD and not Blazing Blade.
  19. I propose we wait for an official Fire Emblem release (considering a Roy amiibo is probably coming, Roy might be in FE14) to call the sword by a name. If the sword is "Sword of Seals" change it, but if it's "Binding Blade" in an official FE game then keep it.
  20. Now here's something I want to point out about Smash 4 and why we might wann take it's trophies with a grain of salt. Funny enough it involves Falchion... And it's technically not wrong I just think it's inappropriate context. Marth's final smash trophy calls Falchion "[the] Exalted Falchion". In the Japanese version of Awakening, however, the item known as "exalted Falchion" was called "Divine Sword Falchion". However, in the English release of shadow dragon (fe11) Falchion was frequently called by the moniker "the Divine Sword, Falchion" and sometimes "The Blade of Light". The Exalted Falchion in that specific context was referencing the power unleashed by the Awakening ritual and POSSIBLY the first Exalt, but given the contexts used in shadow dragon I do want to make the case the trophy should have been rendered "his Divine Sword, Falchion,". Now I'm not saying SSB4 is entirely untrustworthy, in large part thanks to awakening, but it's still by no means as official a source as an official English FE like 7 and 13 or SMTXFE (though it's validity is undetermined, to be fair, as it's not even out). I think we need to take the use of "Sword of Seals" with a grain of salt considering it's the EXACT same word in Japanese and of course Smash's track record. 4 is by no means outright wrong like Brawl, but still.
  21. I've heard, I could be wrong, but I've heard the Fire Emblem in 7 and 6 IS the Binding Blade itself; specifically the red circular gem in the center of it's hilt. Like the gemstones of the 1/3/11/12/13 Fire Emblem. And to unseal it, you must physically insert the gem back into the hilt. On the main subject, it would be cool for the Fire Emblem to be a person, either MU14 or Aqua (I FIRMLY REFUSE TO USE DEFAULT NAMES FOR AVATARS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE), or a Dragonstone for MU. After all, the Binding Shield AND the Binding Blade both had strong ties to dragons before, so it's phesable they could return to that concept with Dragons finally back in the limelight after being sidelined since 7 (sans the remakes, 11 and 12).
  22. Can you use one of those Fake Emulated Wi-Fi servers I've heard about to trick the game into thinking the shop is still online? Maybe even use them to store characters? I know the shop had to do with the time the server was set to.
  23. ...Is it possible Marth is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder...? Or maybe it's that Marth was always this innocent inside, but hid it behind a face of confidence during 11. But PTSD sounds like it would be a good explanation if it's possible he does.
