  1. To the people comparing Gamecube and Wii U, whilst it's true Gamecube was also a 'failure' in terms of large commercial success, it did still sell a hefty 22 million sales (approximation rounded up). Compared to that, the Wii U hasn't even sold 6 million yet.

And I disagree with people saying Nintendo deserves better finances, I've loved Nintendo as a kid and completely support them! With that said however, they still have to earn the money. They can't expect me to like everything they do and in fact, I've recently been so dissatisfied with some things. the Wii U aside, the games I've come to love such as Paper Mario and Legend of Zelda aren't in the best states right now. The controversy that is Sticker Star, I absolutely hated not because it's a bad game, but because it shoved away everything I liked about the series. Legend of Zelda? A Link Between Worlds, it's doing great, but really where's the next big game like Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword? We've had 2 remakes, a handheld game and the only thing we've seen a trailer for is a spin-off. Which I thought looked great, but that's not really the point. Heck, even Luigi's Mansion, good game, but it got rid of the interesting back stories of the ghosts entirely, which I felt was one of the interesting parts about Luigi's Mansion. Even Awakening has it's controversies, despite being pretty damn popular (although really, which game doesn't?).

Whew, bit long huh? Sorry bout that, just my opinion on Nintendo's current state.

  2. Considering the differences in population size between the US and Japan, I would have thought that was to be expected...

That is true, but it's the numbers themselves that are actually the problem. In the US, Twilight Princess was one of the biggest successes for the series, however in Japan even if you combine the sales for Wii and GC, it's one of the lowest. In other words, the US sales saved Twilight Princess from being one of the biggest flops.

  3. I have always thought it was generally agreed that Nintendo recognizes overseas fans by most people - just look at the sales from Legend of Zelda series, in the US they always destroy the Japanese sales of the game by staggering amounts. Of course, I agree. With that said however, the comments from Japanese viewers are just from different message boards and they are probably not what Nintendo would focus their attention towards compared to Mii-Verse, article or site reviews and the like.

It's like coming to this forum and seeing all the hate for Awakening, but if you check all the more casual sites such as Gamefaqs, you'll see a lot of praise.

  4. To change the subject, I recalled something awhile back, this guy on another forum saying that the only a few characters would not be returning. And that he got this info from someone involved with the project. Of course, he never gave any proof and I'm not saying he's absolutely correct, but I think he said these characters were Pokemon Trainer, ROB, and Snake. I know PT was one of them, at least. And so far, none of these three have shown up. He might actually be right.

Out of those three, I can see them not reappearing, however I'd very much want Snake to return given his lack of appearance in Playstation All-Stars! I'd feel sorry for the guy if he didn't appear in either. Also, Snake was pretty fun to play against - required a bit of tactics. ROB? Well good riddance. Pokemon Trainer I can completely understand, they have time constraints and it's basically 3 characters in one as well as having to render and program the trainer himself into the background of each stage (and maybe even Adventure mode).

  5. Confirmed, new character each end of the week :smug:

Is this real or am I hopelessly gullible?

I don't see Lyn being playable. Yeah, she's the western fanbase's Marth, but she'd just be a faster version of him. I don't see her standing out much. She seems to have some popularity though, and did get to be an assist in Brawl.

Chrom/Lucina and Marth are much more alike than Lyn and Marth will ever be. In other words, Lyn and Marth are nothing alike. As you said, the basis of a light-weight sword user is the only basis and only similarity they have.

Also in regards to what you said about Lucina, popularity is an important factor, it's just not the only nor deciding factor (Chrom is popular anyway). It's very hard to gauge popularity as a factor considering we haven't got an accurate idea of how much our voices - as an English community - reaches Sakurai. I'd say the Japanese audience is more important in the regards of character popularity opinion, but either way, I agree with you if popularity is the thing the character only has going, they won't be chosen. I like Sakurai's unpredictability with Wii Fit Trainer, Game and Watch and ROB even though I don't like the choices.

Why not add Chrom, said game's main character, to the roster to celebrate that?

I already mentioned this before, but I'll iterate my opinion on this. I think this is a horrible way for Sakuari to be thinking if he's doing so and will hopefully be something he stops here. With each new Smash Bros game, people start talking about a new Fire Emblem representative, choosing the most recent lord from the most recent game just doesn't seem like a good idea unless they have another reason to be chosen other than that. Sure, Chrom's something now, but what's going to happen next two or so Fire Emblem games come out? He'll be overshadowed by the newer Fire Emblem lords and people will want them as lords. This is a terrible cycle, first in Melee where Roy was chosen to promote Fire Emblem 6 which had yet to be released, in Brawl where Ike's series despite having pretty bad sales in comparison to the other games in the series was chosen as the new Fire Emblem representative and now for 3DS/Wii U people want Chrom. I'd much rather Sakurai look at the past games and choose a representative who is chosen for more than the reason of being 'the latest lord in the latest game'.

Although really, how many lords are like that in Fire Emblem...? What do you all think?

  6. I really don't think Ike will be cut. His fighting style in Brawl is much more different compared to Ike and I simply think Sakurai just won't include a new Fire Emblem representative, especially when you consider what Chrom can bring new to the series (given he is popular, but so is Ike). Would people want Chrom now or prefer to wait for another Fire Emblem lord, whether a completely new one that's unique or a remake of an old game such as FE4/6/7 that updates the characters.

  7. For PvP, my read is that he's actually stronger than he was before, given the usual caveats of player skill, etc. The problem isn't with his power level. Part of this is because I really loved old Xer, and they certainly kept some parts of the play style intact, but I feel that they didn't successfully hit target on fixing the issues they had perceived with him and in fact added some new issues.

If only the same could be said for Skarner...

Given, I haven't played the new Skarner, but he was definitely going to be (and probably still will be) my next jungler I pick up when I grind the IP.

  8. Something's I noticed with the stats as well is that you're using the average levels for them which I completely agree with. However, you didn't include the promotion gains which I think would be more interesting. Although looking at it, it's probably intentional considering Lucius is now a Sage instead of a Bishop. I'm actually not sure the differences between promotions for each game, however I can see why you done it.

In particular however, ignoring Lucius, will you be doing polls or something similar for other characters such as Marisa or Amelia? I personally make Amelia a General, however I think the majority prefer her as a Paladin. Similarly, I see Marisa preferred as a Swordmaster. I do think it's too much work to include both, so do you think a poll would be the best option or rather, just go with what you feel is right? A relatively minor thing for now though that I'm sure a few will say, will there be any recolouring the Fire Emblem 7 mugs to match the colours of Fire Emblem 8? It's odd seeing them together.

Also what can we expect to be added? More characters from Marth's/Ike's universe? Or possibly even Leaf or Krom. I'm very excited for this, great work so far.

Could possibly see tournaments held with this in the future.

  9. Well, considering its a match beetwen begginers, there's... a lot that can be said about it(unoptimal sets is one of them), which would take too long

But for the case of this game, the most important thing to note is to try doing calculations, and damage assumptions. This is actually something that many experienced players did not manage to learn even after playing for a long time

The big example for this is GK's Blaziken failing to OHKO Aggron, after TBM sacced several pokemon for no reason. Its a common occurence where the player panics when their opponent used some random powerful poke and sacced stuff that did not manage to survive the hits only to find out latter that one of their pokemon could have handled it better. On the flipside, i'm not sure about the EV spreads, but I thought Blaziken should have used Flamethrower instead because Aggron's SP.D is much lower. I usually do the same uh.... "trick" with Aegislash vs Aggron, because M. Aggron defense is high, I decided to rely on Shadow Ball instead

Theres not a notable misplay from what I see tbh

....Oh yeah the Overheat at Turn 1 is kinda questionable in many fronts. Bug Buzz nailed 5/6 of GK's team neutrally, which, if actually applied would have resulted in OHKO on Greninja

Thanks for the reply and advice!

To be honest, I haven't found a use for Argon yet, often or not, despite having high defence, the enemies have a fighting type physical attacker that just shred through him. I went from full-tank to damage and to now simply damage with different move-types. I definitely don't think it's ideal.

The reason I used Overheat Turn 1 is because I knew it done quite a large amount of damage on Greninja, however you're definitely right and I should've used Bug Buzz instead. I knew he'd switch out to Greninja, so I should've used the turn to use Quiver Dance. Another mistake I'm looking at could've been switching out Jumpluff too early. I'm actually not sure how many turns it takes for GK's Blaziken to outspeed my Jumpluff, but if it's 2, I had the opportunity to use Sleep Powder on him and finish him off, which I should've done.

I definitely got lucky with Argon surviving. Usually I open up with Stealth Rock and Swampert, which causes him to go Lilligant, making me change my first pick. Usually I beat GK fairly easily thanks to my Gardevoir, but I goofed up trying to make a play with Destiny Bond, which worked, but probably wasn't ideal.

  10. So just now, had a great and very close match against the forums Kairu-kyun. Had some pretty nice highlights and both of us are pretty much new to the whole Pokemon Showdown and though we aren't aiming high (if at all for Kairu), here's the match and if anyone could offer critique to either of us (since I'm sure there'll be a lot), it'd be great!

Edit: Just realized the text on the rights there, ignore it, it's just friendly banter and neither of us mind. :P

  11. http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-85436901

Wellll this is what I was talking about. *shrugs* He's not the first nor the last one I'll find, unfortunately.

Anyway, I'm Arufureddo atm on showdown, but I tend to change username quite often.

At least I found this really nice guy with an awesome team. We've been supporting each other for some matches and we also exhanged friend codes for the real games. Nice.

@JSND: What's your Chesnaught set, if I may ask? I've been trying to use one for a while but I can't find an effective set for it.

    @Silver Lightning:

    You're doing really well! :D

That's actually hilarious at how immature people can be. The worst I've experienced is simply being told I suck after winning a match, given I'm not even half as good as you or many of the people here, your Baton Pass work was very interesting and executed very well, nicely done!

  12. I think Sega has confirmed that this game isn't "canon", and the redesigns are ONLY for this game and the TV show.

The redesigns I don't mind too much, but has the story been confirmed to be not canon? It looks like an alternate world, so it shouldn't matter too much, but considering the enemies don't look nearly as chidlish as in Lost Worlds and aren't simply what we've seen before like in Generations, I am pretty interested in this game and hope it's canon. Although I'm sure I'd prefer it being non-canon over something like 2006...

  13. That's why Marth's playable. Besides, most of the the FE lords use swords, and we don't really need yet another sword-user in this game.

That's probably why she was the FE Assist Trophy.

I don't know if you're trying to refute something or not, lol.

Anyhow, Fire Emblem actually doesn't have many iconic characters apart from Marth. I'd rather just them do a popularity poll on the Fire Emblem lords and have them used, of course with Marth being guaranteed regardless. I think Ike from his popularity boost thanks to Brawl would make it as well, with the other representative being fair game.

  14. Chrom is the new guy, and has potential for a different moveset.

Well with discussing the Fire Emblem representative, Every FE lord has potential for a different moveset. Actually, compared to that of Hector, Ephraim, Micaiah, Roy and Lyn, his would seem to be much less interesting.

I actually don't like this trend where the latest FE game = new lord for Smash Bros. I'd much prefer Sakurai to go back to the previous games and look at the most iconic characters, instead of having a roster of Fire Emblem lords that are here only because they were the latest game at the time. I'd much prefer Lyn who's the first lord representative to the US market and well. I think she's the only 'myrmidon' lord and the second female lord to give game over status in Fire Emblem. Will I think Sakurai go back to previous lords that are the most popular of the series or the most iconic? No, to be honest. I think the next FE rep will be chosen based off of the latest game, which is understandable, just not - in my opinion - preferable.

  15. Sakurai only said there would be cuts if there were time constraints, to this point everyone in brawl is being put into Smash 4 its only a matter of time and character priority.

If the game is going to slowly to meet Sakurai ambitions of this year we may see cuts yes. But its a highly rude thing to expect them considering this man was pained to take Roy and Mewtwo among others out of Brawl

Erhm, no... it's definitely not rude to expect cuts regardless of there being time constraints or not.
