Father Wood Posted December 24, 2008 Share Posted December 24, 2008 When he fought ike he had used a powder to travel to the castle and that affected his armout, IIRC It's not like that in the American version, they translated that out. Here's what I think really happened: I always assumed that if you didn't kill him, then his blessed armour saves him from being crushed under the castle, then he uses his superhuman strength to get himself out of the rubble. The alternative I had in mind was that Sephiran put a spell on the BK's armour, so that if the BK was "killed," he'd be automatically resurected, with his armour losing its blessing instead. Only problem with that theory is how does he lose his armour's blessing if you didn't kill him? Oh well, it probably doesn't matter seeing as Ike "killing" him in PoR seems to be the more canonical alternative because Ike says to (Elincia I believe) that he defeated the BK after 2-E. This was a copy-paste from a post I made about three weeks ago? Anyway, if Greil never died, then Ike wouldn't hate the BK so much, then live in Gallia peacefully. Very unlikely Greil would have been the heroic general in the Mad Kings War... thus meaning he'd be incharge when we meet the GMs in RD and he'd be the super Jeigan with amazing bases and slightly below averages and hell probably tier three just so he'd be an amazing exp hog. Pretty much Greil surviving PoR undermines Ike's maturing in that game so what would happen is PoR would be the last glory days of a vet merc with him dying near the end of the war as victory is just clinched and then we'd get to see Ike still getting over his fathers death and people reach his stating point of RD mid way through now.. and yeah things get really messing and could completely change now. In 4-E-2, the BK should have been made more uber... just for that battle (otherwise fighting him on part 3 would be impossible) Ashera should have brought Greil's zombie back to life, just like those soldiers, and be an uber boss, Dheginsea level. He also fought Ike right-handed in the prologue of Path of Radiance. As for Ashera, she resurrected only her most devout followers, as I recall, and Greil wasn't particularly faithful to Ashera. Greil would've let Ike lead so he could gain some experience and maybe Ike would be an even better swordsman cause Greil would be around to train him. I think Ike would still be the main character. Greil would've taken a minor role kinda like Titania. Everything that happened in PoR and RD would still happen except Greil would be alive and Ike wouldn't be searching for revenge against the BK. microwavefriendly Posted January 7, 2009 Share Posted January 7, 2009 um if Greil died then the events of Path would be really different, but would effect Dawn a little more than Miciah getting killed because Black Knight wouldn't miraculously reappear to save her. There's two alternate path's that stem from this: 1) Greil defeats Black Knight 2) Greil survives only because Caineghis arrives in time and forces Black Knight to flee (though really you caould imagine another time line where Caineghis kills Black Knight). for outcome 1, i assume these are various possibilities: -If the game were restructured for Greil to be the leader of the mercenaries, then Ike wouldn't have been the main character of game (changing the first 7 chapters and you'd have an suped up leader, very un-FE like if you ask me. usually the "lord" has to level up too.), and Greil would probably escort Elencia to Begnion and the game would go on the same path, except no Black Knight problems since he is dead. Greil is also probably a celebrated and noble general once his actual identity get recognized in Begnion, which would lead to different plot arcs. Ultimately, however, i imagine that Greil would become king of Daein at the games end. We may not know how attached he was to his home land, but i imagine he is the type of hero who would take the throne to fix the shattered nation. Which essentially obliterates the first part of Dawn. Except, you could still have the "heir" to the throne claim be made and thus a civil war would break out, which could lead to some similar kinds of scenes as we saw in Dawn, though i doubt the whole continental war breaking out as not happening since Greil is an ally of Gallia and basically all laguz. Then it would Begnion versus the whole continent. -the other possibility is that Greil takes Gatrie and Shinon and a few Gallian troops and leads his own geurrilla war against Daein while Ike takes the rest of the company and the game progresses similarly. Ike becomes strong on his own, though he doesn't have quite the drive to become strong and defeat the Black Knight. And Greil would probably reappear sometime when Ike makes it back to Crimea. Like with Geoffery, or even when Ike meets up with the Gallian forces. Even then, Greil could act separately from the mercenaries turn national army and not really be playable until the final battle, as a back unit called in, like Giffca. outcome 2: -Greil would more than likely have some serious wounds (because he died from them in the game's natural universe), and would probably be out of commision for sometime. And since time is of the essence in the game, Greil would appoint Ike in charge of the mercenaries and send him off to escort Elencia to Begnion and the game continues as it did in the actual game of Path, except this time there Ike still is after Black Knight because of the severe wounding or curiosity since the Black Knight seems to know his father. This could lead to a rather tense scene where Black Knight is the one who reveals Greil's past to Ike, not Volke. That could create some rather interesting father-son issues. Then again, it is just as likely that Ashnard send Black Knight after Greil, essentially leaving the him out of Ike's story all together. And again, it is possible that once Greil recovers from his wounds, he joins up with Gallia's army and is playable towards the end. And again, Greil could take the Daein throne an help the country recover, which would alter the events of Dawn. And for both outcomes, if Greil would become king (or viceroy or steward) of Daein, then surely there would be civil war could still break out, with Izuda saying that Pelleas is the "true heir" to the throne. This could have Greil stepping down and serving Pelleas, or the Greil doesn't believe it and wins the war. Then the whole Begnion upheaval could occur, and instead of using Daein as an ally, the new Begnion supports and aid Pelleas's/Izuda's faction. Where Sothe and Miciah fit into that is probably on Greil's side. so yeah, Greil's survival essentially could produce a similar game, though as cliched as the hero's death to drive the hero to growth and vengeance is, i enjoy seeing Path be played out....though this Greil as king of Daein and civil war possibility is rather intriguing. ahh the power of hypothetical questions. hahahahaha Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

And for that same reason, Caineghis couldn't have killed the Black Knight, because his teeth and claws were not blessed by Ashera. Anyway... Chapter 8 and 9 of Path of Radiance would have played out pretty much the same way if Greil had lived. Volke's role in chapter 10 would have been different... I'm not entirely sure that he would have shown himself at all if Greil had lived, but then Greil could have called on him anyway to open the locks. No difference in chapter 11, except that Ike wouldn't have had such a big reaction to seeing the Black Knight. Chapter 12... Greil probably would have stopped Ike from setting foot on Goldoa, so Ike never would have met Kurthnaga. In Chapter 13, Gatrie wouldn't be working for Astrid, because he never would have left the Greil Mercenaries. For those jobs from the Apostle... I'm not even sure if they ever would have been done, because Greil could have revealed that he was once a nobleman of Daein... Even if he didn't, and even if he still had to do those jobs in chapters 14 to 17, he, not Ike, would have received peerage from Elincia. Anyway, Ike's swordsmanship probably wouldn't have been so rough, and Stefan probably wouldn't have seen a need to train him, so he wouldn't have gotten that occult scroll. Greil would have been the general of the Crimean Liberation Army, not Ike, and there's no telling what he would have done differently against Daein. But some things are pretty likely: for example, that Shinon wouldn't have been working for Daein... and that Volke probably wouldn't have charged Ike 50,000 gold for his "report" on Greil... Greil would have been furious at the theft of Mist's medallion anyway, and he may well have done something rash... but this post is too long as it is, so let's just leave it at that. Giffca, Tibarn, naesala, ena, and nisr's laguz weapons in PoR can damage ashnard who's armour is like the black knight's.
