He goes missing 5 minutes after assuming the throne of Hoshido on some convert mission when he could have sent any number of his ninja retainers, instead. That's a good way to throw your country into chaos. The sovereign has just been assassinated, and now the heir apparent has gone missing. I'm surprised Garon didn't just waltz into the capital right then and there. Then when he finally does reunite with the Hoshido army, he just sort of sits back and lets Corrin be in command, when he has no real reason to justify it. That being said, I don't hate Ryoma as a character, I chalk it more up to Birthright's horrible writing. I think it has worse writing than Conquests.
