CHAPTER 16

8 turns clear.

I could have actually sped this up, barely. Franz had to land a few (roughly 50% of his swings) Zanbato shots at 58% on Orson. I wish I'd had a Horseslayer, but I forgot / didn't know to get one. Ah well. Essentially: drive up, Warp Franz, Warp Ephraim a turn or two later. Worked fine. L'Arachel promoted as soon as she hit 10 to Valk.

CHAPTER 17

2 turns clear.

Franz runs forward, L'Arachel Warps Franz forward. Turn 2: L'Arachel Warps Franz, Franz Garms Lyon. Everybody else takes a little bit to self-improve, primarily Cormag (6-stat level) and Myrrh (5, plus a twofer in HP).

CHAPTER 18

8 turns clear.

Eh. Gorgon eggs. One ended up hatching, but that actually SAVED me a turn because the ensuing Gorgon suicided on Franz.

CHAPTER 19

2 turns clear.

Bog-standard. Rennac reveal, L'Arachel Warp, Franz Garm. Myrrh got two levels and got me the Brave Lance to ensure something, I'm sure.

CHAPTER 20

4 turns clear.

I couldn't fathom a way to get a 3-turns, though I definitely tried. L'Arachel's MAG is just too low. I settled for a 4 after Franz got hit ONLY by Morva and Riev and ended with 1HP and a dead Morva. Ephraim Warps to Seize, everybody else does some killin' - especially Myrrh.

FINAL - 1

2 turns clear.

WHAT.

I had a perfect 3-turn strategy planned, and then Franz CRIT LYON WITH GARM on the Turn 2 EP. I AM NOT DISAPPOINT.

FINAL - 2

1 turn clear.

Franz moved to attack, Ephraim moved to attack, L'Arachel Rescued Cormag to attack. I think Cormag actually PIERCED the Demon King on the first go but I couldn't replicate it when I loaded the state. He just doubled as normal. :(

THIS. I am SO GLAD I decided to S Axes with him. He promoted in C8, in the deploy screen, and used solely Axes for the next three chapters - resulting in an ability to sling Garm. Franz did everything this run, and I am not disappoint.

Moved too fast for her to get the levels she needed to be decent. Actually, that's not fair. She made several chapters possible just by riding a pony (notably, 10) and her bowery skills were invaluable for a few flier-heavy chapters (12, 15, 18). Incidentally, she never Sed Bows. Or anything.

EPHRAIM

Ch16: Ruled by Madness (6/166)

Pretty simple now that Warp's available. Warped Kyle towards Orson on turn 2, followed in order by Gerik and Eirika. Gerik cleared some room and went for the Talisman chest for the hell of it. Eirika waited for Kyle to destroy Orson. Everyone else went west and killed stuff for some EXP. Kyle onerounded Orson with a Horseslayer, serves that slut right. Promoted Natasha on the last turn.

Ch18: Two Faces of Evil (8/176)

The dialogue in this chapter is my favorite in the whole game. "Hey L'arachel, if someone is possessed by the demon king, can they be saved?" "No." *10 minutes later* "lol hay eirika I wuz possessed by the demon king, but he went away. now can I have the only thing that protects us from the demon king???". Eirika is so smart. Anyway, really simple chapter, just split everyone up (except Ewan, he's too far behind) and killed eggs. Used the dreaded DEVIL AXE on Kyle to boost his axe rank to S easily.

Ch20: Darkling Woods (4/183)

This one was drag-and-drop instead of warpskip. Vanessa rescued Eirika and charged westward with a Spear equipped. She easily survived long enough to drop Eirika, then sit in front of Morva with an Elixer and Vidofnir. She weathered Morva and dodged the crappy enemies, barely surviving. Finished Morva on the 4th turn and Eirika seized.

Final Chapter: Sacred Stone (part 1) (4/187)

Semi warpskip. Warped Kyle over the gap, had him kill some peeps, sent him charging at Lyon and waited since Lyon hit him like a freight train. Took 2 enemy phases to kill him since I didn't get a lucky crit. :(

Final Chapter: Sacred Stone (part 2) (2/189)

I'm a wuss who can't one-turn the demon slut. Oh well. Ephraim, Kyle, and Myrrh slammed his face and murdered him, in that order. Kyle did a lolable 66 damage. ouch.

Thoughts on characters:

EIRIKA

Great Lord   4.06  35 12 23 23 15 15 13 // B209 W79

She carried the game in the beginning, her high speed compared to everyone made her invaluable. However, her usefulness dropped off considerably after hitting level 20, since everyone else was able to promote and continue gaining EXP. Even at the endgame she didn't really bounce back, and her HP was too low for her to even hit the Demon King.

VANESSA

Falcoknight   9.90  42 17 23 26 17 16 18 // B215 W110

If I were to do another draft and I was set to pick first, I would choose Vanessa over Franz. There's really nothing that beats full-game flyer utility, the turns I was able to shave off early chapters from using her were absolutely wonderful and just barely kept me ahead of Integ, even with Franz. Her stats were quite excellent, too. Once she got the Fili Shield she was hard as hell to kill and doesn't suffer from the low defense problem Florina and Thany have.

GARCIA

Despite being one of the weaker characters by FE8's standards, Garcia's performance is what I would call dependable. His role remained the same throughout the entire game and he did it just fine. His slow speed was really his only big pitfall, I almost wish I had recruited Amelia for her stupid Speedwing. But at the beginning he could tank and deal heavy hits, and he doubled the slow, high defense/HP enemies where hitting hard mattered and Eirika and Vanessa certainly could not deliver in that department. Would I draft him again? Only if I needed more earlygame power (which is why I drafted him this time), but he's not as awful as some people seem to think.

NATASHA

I have mixed feelings about Natasha. It's hard to say whether she helped my turncount or not. Obviously her warpskipping did, but there are lots of people that can do that. She was troublesome throughout the entire game because I had to be very careful about protecting her, she can't hold her own against anything at all. But, did she save me turns by healing instead of forcing people to use Vulneraries? Probably, but I'm not sure if that wouldn't have been an issue at all if I'd had another fighting unit instead. I certainly think that if I were to draft a Staff user again, Moulder would definitely be my first choice, but I preferred Natasha to L'arachel.

KYLE

Hah. Kyle is amazing. It's a shame he didn't join as early as Sain did in FE7, because he was definitely my best character besides maybe Vanessa. His absurd speed growth certainly helped. I have nothing but praise for this guy. I would draft him earlier if Franz and Vanessa were out of the question.

GERIK

He wasn't as impressive as I'd thought he would be. Not to say that he was bad, but he paled in comparison to Kyle and Vanessa and even Garcia wasn't too far behind him. Still, he was a competent fighter that I didn't have to baby so that's a plus. Nothing wrong with him, he just wasn't what I thought he'd be. I would pick Kyle or Forde in the place I picked him next time for sure. Or Cormag.

SALEH

Sage   8.43  36 19 19 16 14 12 13 // B51 W39

He was okay. Obviously Lute and Artur are superior choices, but Saleh carried his own weight and he was never somebody I had to worry about. His stats were actually decent too, except for his Garcia-level speed which is really unfortunate. But, as a rez-hitter where nobody else was able to do it, Saleh was a good replacement and he had the honor of wielding the Hammerne staff to repair Warp. Nothing wrong with him, Artur and Lute are just better. He's like the very definition of an average magic-user.

EWAN

Shaman   1.90  23 12 6 11 9 3 8 // B23 W9

I, as you can see, hardly used him. His move was too low to be useful in the maps where my main strategy was to blitz them as quickly as possible (most maps) so he only saw action on survival maps or maps where enemies were surrounding me (Scorched Sand). He could've been useful as a Summoner if I'd babied him more, but I don't think it would've helped my turn count at all. He was my last choice for a reason.

EPHRAIM

This guy just doesn't see any action on Eirika's route. His stats turned out fine, but he promoted early (at like level 16) and didn't see a lot of combat. Still pretty powerful, just horrendous availability.

MYRRH

Mamkute   10.30  26 12 8 8 6 17 11 // B17 W12

Mamkute is much better than Manakete. Anyway, she's Myrrh.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with my result. Curious to see how everyone else does!

Aw, come on Soul. Remember how I was bitching to you that nobody ever finishes drafts I'm in? It's because they give up when they know they won't win. I knew I wouldn't win going into it, and I still finished.

Now quit being a pansy and go finish like a proper gentleman.

I assumed you'd win, but then Silvercrow came from nowhere and wtfucked everything over with a golden dildo. GGs. I'll finish though, hopefully Syrene will do some awesome pick and drop stuff with Eirika. Here's hoping for some lucky shit to go down. Also I need to update. ch. 12 was done in 12 turns while Ch. 13 was done in 5 turns. Gimme some more time to make decent posts on the last 5 chapters.

Ross went for Valter and showed him some sexy GARm action.

Meanwhile, Artur, Joshua & Marisa went for Calleach.

Knoll promoted to create some Phantoms for the lolz. It was actually of some use, since he shaved off a whole turn in the end by killing a peggie in an oasis.

Ok so I decided to do updates for the 5 chapters in this post:

Ch 9: Distant Blade (15/104)

Here I sent everyone around, since nobody can fly or walk on water. I lead those pirates using unequipped Tana and Colm, then Tana flew to safety while Colm killed them all and saving the Rapier village. Menawhile I wasn't quite quick enough to stop the destruction of the second village, but I did recruit Amelia, whose speedwings later made somsone's speed increase, but I forget who I used it on. Probably Lute. Anyway I pressed forward, getting the Rapier from the saved village and killing all units in 15 turns.

Ch. 10: Revolt at Carcino (6/110)

Tana played her part well here. I incurred the 4 turn penalty using her to pick Eirika up and fly straight for the boss. Everyone else moved South and started hacking away down there. Meanwhile on enemy phase, the ballistae shot at and killed Tana. I assumed that Eirika would drop onto the mountains and wouldn't be able to move, but I soon learned that she gets dropped to the nearest clear patch of ground, and this happened to be right in front of the boss. The boss attacked her, did some damage, but Eirika countered with a double critical. At the start of turn 2, the rest of the units did some killing for experience, and Eirika was last to move, claiming the gate and winning the chapter in 2 turns, with a 4 turn penalty for using Tana. Innes automatically joined at the end.

Ch. 11: Creeping Darkness (11/121)

Colm went straight down, Lute stayed back to take out the reinforcements from behind. The rest went east. Can't say much happened except for Colm promoting to Assassin. However I did miss the chest on the left side due to the last enemy getting killed on enemy phase turn 11, but I did manage to get the chest on the right using a Chest key.

Ch. 12: Village of Silence (12/133)

Gilliam stayed behind to take out the reinforcements from the bottom left. Forde, Colm and Innes went rushing ahead to clean out the top half of the screen. Franz went straight to the top right of the screen, getting some much needed experience, while Colm managed to kill off some flying scum while heading for the boss, while Innes focused on mainly the flying eyes. After Lute and Eirika cleared out the bottom right, Lute caught up and gave Innes a hand. Gilliam cleared up all by himself.

Ch. 13: Hamill Canyon (5/138)

Well by now, Forde is promoted to a Paladin and equipped with a Horseslayer ready for the boss. I had no reason to wait around for Cormag. The chapter would have been cleared by turn 4, but a series of unlucky misses by Forde against the boss made it 5 turns. Gained that much-needed Knight Crest for gilliam, who will be hitting Lv20 soon.

I sent Rosserker, DURCEL, Artur, Eirika and Ephraim through the back entrance of the castle. Ross ferried Ephraim so he coould reach the throne faster.

Knoll died after getting Sleep'd and and killed by a Ranger. He was a good healer while he lasted. T_T

Myrrh, Joshua and Marisa went towards Lyon and killed him.

On the next round, Ephraim attacked Formitiis and left him with low HP. Eirika couldn't double, but to make up for her lack of excellent offense against the Demon King, she had a B support with Ephraim. Lucky for her she dodged twice and Ephraim gave the final blow.

This was pretty darn fast. And we still see other draft tourneys picking characters.

Now, talk about unfair advantage. Warpskipping and 8 Mov FLYING units. Pfft.

Hey, you're the one that let Tana die and recruited no magic users except lolknoll and lolartur. :(

But yea we got a nice pool of people with (apparently) way too much free time. Worked out quite well (have any other drafts in any of the games even come this close to being complete?)

Yes, I let Tana die in favor of shaving me some turns...but I'm afraid she was far from being "decent". At least Marisa didn't get AS loss from her weapon, and got to face tons of enemies for smooth leveling.

As for Artur, he wasn't bad at all. He has an easier start than Lute. And he's not bad at all in the end.

Knoll was pretty bad. He couldn't double anything. And was easily far from salvation. I just reduced him into a Phantom creator/Healer in the end. =P

Lol, looks like the tourney maker will be the last to finish.

Anyway I did 2 more chapters since my last update:

Ch. 14: Queen of White Dunes (14/152)

Nothing really complicated here. Sent Lute left with 2 Chest Keys, taking out everything along her way. Sent Innes, Colm and Gilliam through the top-left entrance towards the next chest, everyone else went up the right entrance towards Rennac. L'Arachel was brought along to recruit him. Forde cleared most of the path while Eirika cleared up any units which happened to survive against Forde. Boulder opened that big door with an Unlock, while Rennac was recruited by L'Arachel. Innes cleared up some of the throne room enemies from the other side of the wall, then went back and took out the Longbow wielding Archers who were firing at Lute as she opened those two chests. Gilliam pulled back to take on the Cavalier reinforcements, gaining Exp, then promoting to Great Knight. Yay 6 move. Forde got to the boss, armed with a Silver Lance. The hit was ~60% fromo memory, yet Forde missed 4 times, hitting 3 times, killing him 3 turns after first attacking. While that was happening Eirika cleaned up the rest of the throne room, toying with the Light users, then took the throne on turn 14.

Ch. 15: Scorched Sand (11/163)

What a fucking level. Fuck. I had this planned to be done in 9 or 10 turns, but a series of deaths (mostly Lute because of the Dragon Riders) made me restart this chapter like 10 or more times. On the run I did complete it, Ephraim was put to sleep, so I had to send Forde back from his advance on Valter to save his sleeping ass from attacking D-Riders and Cavs. I got Boulder to him when the area was clear of dangerous units on his last sleeping turn to wake him up. Colm stayed in the top-left, killing everything there, then killed Caellach in 3 hits using the Audhulma. Gilliam stayed in the top right, killing the Berserker there, as well as all the flying reinforcements. Everyone else went south. Lute was first to challenge Valter. After attacking then Elixering to full health, she finally got to Lv20 and promoted to Mage Knight. I had Forde and Ephraim ready to give Valter the finishing blow after Lute was to damage him, yet she pulled a critical on him, killing him. Items saved with thanks to Rennac and a lucky pickup from Forde were: Boots, Warp, Eclipse and Body Ring.

You coulda warpskipped too, Soul. Early-promotion on Artur (possibly not necessary) to Bishop gives him auto-C, which actually makes him MORE likely to A Staves in time than L'Arachel. :P

I'm torn between giving the Boots to Colm, Forde or Gilliam, who have 6, 8 and 6 move respectively.

Also the Warp staff, there's only one available isn't there. I don't want to waste it all on Ch. 16.

Give the Boots to Forde or Gilliam for sure, whichever's looking better.

And really, as long as you got the Hammerne Staff (I hope you did), it doesn't matter how much you warp, you should be able to shave at least a dozen turns off with it.
