It would definitely free things up for the lads and ladettes. I think this is likely, since Vincent took the trouble to change the badge pictures. If you haven't noticed, they're now in the cell's background and don't have any text on it. Instead, moderators have a transparent layer with the 'moderator' title on top of it. If Vincent only wanted this change for one day, it would have been easier to edit all the badges with the moderator title and give them permission to change it / remove it for normal users.
