Rather than do a topic about how much ash is a horrible trainer, lets talk about what pokemon should ash just constantly use. He already does it with pikachu (give him a light ball or an eviolite god dammit) why not do it with charizard. SO yeah, what pokemon should be in ash's ultimate winning team. His Pokemon only evolve when the situation calls for it. Except Charmander. Seconding Snorlax and Muk because they were Gs, Charizard is a given because he's a boss, and I think Lapras should be in there too because I liked her. Pikachu can be leading Ash's pokemon back in Oaks lab and plot for world domination or some shit. Also Charizard Snorlax Heracross Infernape Garchomp Floatzel. There. What Ash's pokemon roster is...well, it's whatever the writers want it to be. Same thing with his Pikachu, its strength is based on "how can we make money."
