Komeiji Koishi Posted February 6, 2013 Share Posted February 6, 2013 My friend from school said that I don't know 16 american people who actually know how to speak japanese and/or read kanji, katakana, or hiragana (when they aren't expected to know it), so I decided to look to SF so I can prove him wrong because I'm not good with people/don't know enough people. I've taken two and a half years of formal education and have the ability to read ~8-900 of the Joyo kanji. If I have a computer in front of me I can translate most regular text and conversation, though I still suffer much difficulty in interpretation. 日本語がぺらぺらになるまで、もっともっと勉強する！ i can read kanji and katakana and some hiragana How can you read kanji but only know some of the hiragana? Does that count? :P I'm not "fluent" fluent... but I can follow/respond to a casual conversation. Native Japanese speakers talk freaking fast though. I still haven't gotten used to that.
