Women don't typically go to the beach or pool in bikinis just to show off their skin. I'm sure some do though, unfortunately, and I would hate for a child to see it and get the idea that it's perfectly okay and normal to flaunt around like that.

Based on my experience I'd say most women go to the beach to show off skin considering they spend a lot more time tanning themselves than actually going for a swim. Not that there's anything wrong or unusual about that.

If a woman thinks she's even halfway hot and has no qualms about showing skin in public, she's gonna go out onto that beach and flaunt her shit as much as she lawfully can. Fuck the children.

Tbh the thing that seems odd to me is the fact that Samus even HAS outfits like that since her whole character is/was supposed to be all about messing with gender norms and whatnot. The outfit itself isn't offensive at all, it's just a bit contradictory and unnecessary (in Smash and in Metroid).

Also two days ago I had a dream that Lucina got her dress from the OST as an alternate costume complete with flower crown. <3

The bikini originated from the NES game just as an easter egg. The manual had referred to Samus with male pronouns and it was meant to be a twist ending that Samus was a woman all along. Now it's common knowledge, but there's almost always an end-game bonus for fast completion of the game where you get to see Samus without the suit. Not really contradictory at all but more of a bonus. And of course as time went on, the inner suit became less of a bikini, more into shorts, and is now a full-fledged suit of its own since the character is taken more seriously now. But I mean, with the shorts, I know a lot of girls who just like to unwind after a hard day's work and that's kind of what the Fusion screens remind me of.

We'll just ignore Other M being incredibly regressive

I love all this Samus talk. Even if it's hatred because of wearing a bikini.

Eh, I didn't read the entire conversation, but all I knew is it's about ZSS. I love Zero Suit, so it makes me happy. Regardless whether it's an argument, hate or love.

So has the Internet/GameFaqs went into a rage calling Samus's alternative costume sexist?

There's been a bit on tumblr, but most of the other internet gaming sites I've seen were too fixated on the 5 guys thing.

Ian Watkins plz go.

I can't tell if YOU'RE being serious or just trolling.

There's no reason for me to troll. I don't like this outfit, simple as that. I've a feeling this game's rating is going to be bumped up to mature now. Meaning I can't get it promoted at work as a hot Christmas present for kids.

Way to instantly lower sales, Sakurai.

I was going to say how much of an overreaction this is, but I think you've realized it by now.

And for anyone who didn't notice, Smash Bros. 4 3DS has already been given E10+.

True, and I actually don't think this outfit is as bad as some of the ones in Awakening (namely Tharja's and Tiki's). So yeah, you're right.

I would understand if you were saying Nowi, but what's wrong with Tiki?

i can't find the tiki portrait on the sf mainsite in .004 seconds so i lost interest but i suspect she's referring to the fact that tiki's kind of spilling out all over the place in her portrait

EDIT: tbf i don't agree but then again i'm a guy so

...Hehehehehehe. HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE

I could feel the self-righteous anti-fanservice rage emanating from SFF and all over the internet as soon as I saw this SSotD.

I'm actually happy to see these relatively obscure outfits (that were actually in the games)! Also, I think it's interesting that the person who wanted to put these outfits in the game was apparently a woman (unless I'm misreading the SSotD caption?)

EDIT: Ana, leave Tiki alone. There's nothing wrong with her (honestly I don't get how you're still complaining about her with this new stuff happening lol).

EDIT @ below: Oh wow, really? o___o ...huh.

Really though, if they were still working on the game, they would totally be smart to throw in pantsless Marth and/or shirtless Capt. Falcon to counteract the sexism claims.

(Also it was a female designer who pushed for the costumes to get in the game anyway.)

This doesn't mean as much as people are making it out to be. Women are just as capable of being sexist as men are.

Not that I'm saying this is sexist but I find this whole thing about "a woman designed this!" kind of silly.

It's silly but some people honestly think women don't draw/make revealing context. Only men pandering to horny male teenagers.

Edit:This came to mind but, why do people get upset when it's a women showing skin? I'm sure if Sakurai made a shirtless Captain. Falcon or Ike, no one would complain and call it cool and manly.

I didn't intend for that to throw away the idea of it being sexist, I just meant that since it was a woman that sexualization was likely not the intent there and more of a side affect of the costume she chose.

A lot of women also worked on Skullgirls as lead animators but people will call it a sexist game anyway since it's filled to the brim with sexy women, jiggling boobs, and panty shots. There's a lot of girls I follow on tumblr who post porn allll the time. It's not a whole women vs men when it comes to tolerance of sexualization. People will argue to the end of time whether or not a character like the fighters in Skullgirls or Bayonetta (also designed by a woman!) are progressive/regressive characters in gaming. And no one can deny that Samus's Zero Suit has become more sexualized over time, but in Smash Bros she's not any more sexual than Sheik or Greninja in terms of posing. Yeah she's broken. So's everyone else. Her poses are kinda wacky and I personally wouldn't have chosen those keys but it isn't a problem because it's sexual, it's a problem because her human anatomy being broken sticks out like a sore thumb unlike if you stretch a character like Yoshi or Mario around.

Personally it's a matter of context on whether or not I mind a sexy character. The new ZSS is obviously not posed any differently from her regular suit and it isn't really any more sexual than a skin-tight bodysuit already is. If anything the shape of the clothes makes more sense than the boob clingwrap of her the Zero Suit. I will never like the heels on her, but her heels were super dumb in Other M and I hate them even more. And since this is a Samus based on Other M, it's kind of a step forward... let's just hope that the next Metroid conveniently forgets Other M happened so Samus can go back to being more practical in the next Smash.

It still surprises me that her Other M cadet uniform wasn't considered but I guess that'd be more work. Then again maybe it is in and Sakurai has yet to reveal it.

I would love it if they used that outfit for Zero Suit Samus. I loved Other M, and that design/outfit was, in my opinion, awesome.
