Nope, no items can be used. I mentioned them in the LA's OP on the day I created the project (when you faced SB) and took weeks to edit it out due to forgetfulness. It creates cheap endgame opportunities for every royal and enables stalling by using up turns during which it is disadvantageous to act by consuming the item, waiting for an attack instead.
