What's the point of Paralogue 3?

Every other paralogue in the game has a point in recruiting units, even Paralogue 2, which builds up to recruiting Anna in Paralogue 4. But 3 just seems like a random filler level thrown in because why not. Anyone got any ideas?

It's a way to mix things up and give you a chapter with a variable reward structure, I guess. You don't fail the mission if the villagers die, but you can get a nice bonus if you save them.

Except they have those kinds of tasks in every paralogue. 5's Sage NPCs, 7's Villager NPCs, 10's method of recruiting Severa, and 14's Villages.

Gotta showcase the new AI with no regard for preservation of their own life I suppose (Severa's little suicidal run at least has a purpose), I mean who the hell runs straight towards the enemies you're supposed to be fleeing from?

I like how the most important item is still given if 2 of them die. I usually just talk to one of them for the Robe for Cordelia and let the others kill themselves running to enemies :o

What I found weird about Severa's chapter is the character alignments. Even though it's against her will, the story still makes her out to be working for the enemy at the very start. Why would her circumstantial allies be hostile to her before she's even made contact with Chrom's army and been converted?

I've played most of the FEs out there and from what I can remember that mission is by far the worst in that regard, most of the time the suicidal units are random soldiers that you don't feel compelled to save (I know, rescuing the villagers doesn't really matter, but the game makes it look like it's important), the stuff you have to actually escort just stands there making the rescue process a lot easier.

The only ones that don't stand there are murder machines that mostly steal EXP rather than get themselves killed by a pair of Pegasus Knights.

Yeah, but that's because Pent had the capability of ass kicking. He still runs headlong at the enemies, IIRC, even if it means he will likely die. His AI is pretty similar to that of the villagers, it's just he's better equipped than them.

I feel that they started to develop a slight bit of a story in that chapter, and then never really explained why the village didn't let the others in. Confused me slightly.

Maybe they genuinely thought they needed filler paralogues in the early game to balance out the huge number of paralogues that appear in the second half thanks to the children.

Yeah, but that's because Pent had the capability of ass kicking. He still runs headlong at the enemies, IIRC, even if it means he will likely die. His AI is pretty similar to that of the villagers, it's just he's better equipped than them.

The AI does have self preservation but only if they're injured. The villages though will keep moving to their target regardless of what attacks them.

IIRC, the other two items are the only way to reliably get non-Iron E-ranked items?

I thought it did a nice job of exposing the fact that there's twats in Ylisse.

Any one of the following:

  • Give staff-users (ie. clerics like Lissa or troubadours like Maribelle) a chance to gain a lot of exp. for using Rescue Staves as well as possibly using the Physic staff [if staff rank is C+] to heal a Villager in the event that one actually did get damaged)
  • Abuse fliers
  • Abuse ranged weapons
  • Abuse Galeforce (if grinding was done beforehand)
  • Obtain a Seraph Robe, Log and Ladle free (as well as a Blessed Bow for visiting the village).
  • To have access to the shop after completion (sells Heal, Mend, Vulnerary and Concoction -- earliest shop that sells Concoctions if you clear the paralogue immediately after unlocking it)
  • Any combination of the above

But Iron weapons aren't E-rank in this game. They're D-ranked. Bronze weapons are E-ranked.
