I don't think there's anyone I don't like in Cave Story

even the Doctor is cool because you're supposed to hate him!

Yeah! The dogs are my favorite escort quest characters ever.

I actually still don't fully understand/remember what 108 is for/about ;u;

But that is an interesting coincidence!

108 is the number of named bandit chieftans in a famous Chinese novel called a variety of different things, including Water Margin and Bandits of the Marsh. They gather together, generally fleeing criminal sentences, and eventually get their sentences commuted end up serving as an army for the emperor. During the last conflict nearly all of them die.

It's also used in the game series Suikoden (which IIRC is a/the japanese name for the novel). You can generally recruit 107 characters aside from your main character over the course of the game (sometimes it's a little more, but the extra ones won't appear on your tablet of characters). There's usually or always a bit of extra stuff added into the game if you get all of them, and in the 1st one you are able bring a friend who died to save you back to life (he's one of the stars too). The game is how I learned about the book. IMO the book is very good up until the bandits start fighting for the government. After that point it became less interesting to me for the most part.

EDIT-Ya, everyone in Cave Story is great. Even that guy who makes the statues.

EDIT2-Sorry for the infodump.

OMG Suikoden is the best. BTW, I believe it's important in a wide variety of eastern cultures because "108 is divisible by the value of its φ function, which is 36. 108 is also divisible by the total number of its divisors (12), hence it is a refactorable number." A REFACTORABLE NUMBER SO COOL.

EDIT Also I could be wrong about why it is important since I remember hearing that somewhere but can't find anything about it looking it up. But it's still important!

REFACTOR

THAT'S LIKE YOU

Also, iirc it's important because it's the number of cycles you go through or something? Or the number of adversities one person faces in their life...something like that.
