Skynstein
I don't think Trump is fascist because he follows free market theory. In fascist countries there's "free market" only in theory; as long as you comply with the state's policies, yes. I think Trump worships the dollar god much more than a hypothetical ultranationalism. And I also think Trump would rather dismantle unions than absorb them as in proper fascist countries.
kirby9612
hey guys I'm back.. and here is what the politics of reddit looks like.... It sucks to be consavantarded on the internet...... also what the poltitics atmosphere looks like here.... Anyways, going back to the topic, fascism is authortarian right-wingism. 100% government control, but values right wing ideologies such as strong military, interventionism, intolerance of diverse cultures, as seen with the holocaust, and standing for the one percent (the rich billionares on Wall Street) Edited November 26, 2015 by kirby9612
eclipse
This topic doesn't exist for you to whine about the opinions of other websites, or your own political leanings. If you have something to contribute to the discussion at hand (which seems to be about Trump ATM), please do so.
blah the Prussian
Fascism isn't just about the rich, though. What made it so dangerous was that it drew support from all levels of society.

blah the Prussian
USSR was right-wing? Nope. The whole idea of a political compass is outright moronic, because it sets ideas into groups. Fascism an dCommunism are far more similar than they are different.
TheAssassinMercenary
A little bit of communism isn't necessarily a bad thing. Bernie Sanders' "democratic socialist" approach seems to me like a valid set of ideals. I understand that communism and socialism are different things, but they share many similarities. Corrct me if I'm wrong, but didn't communism evolve from socialism? Not to change the subject, but think about a utopia that is effective as possible. What form of government does it resemble? More often than not, communism. I'm not saying that I'm a communist, but a bit blended with democracy might be a good change of pace. For the record, I don't believe a utopia is possible. A utopia is a perfect society, but I feel like nothing can be perfect, as it can always be improved.
Radiant head
This explains it well http://www.vox.com/2015/10/14/9530787/socialism-history-explained So in practical political terms, "communism" has come to connote a belief in revolutionary political change or, at the very least, more dramatic and transformative democratic change than social democratic parties have advocated. "Socialism" has come to connote commitment to democratic processes and the taming of capitalism through reform. But communist parties would almost universally identify themselves as committed to the goals of socialism — more committed, indeed, than their squishy social democratic rivals. And for their part, many democratic socialists — like US presidential candidate Norman Thomas and British Prime Minister Clement Attlee — were vehemently anti-communist.
blah the Prussian
So Communists were essentially socialists who thought you needed to be violent, as well as favoring a one party state. Another main difference is that Socialism is generally individualistic, while Communism is not.
kirby9612
IMO, even if Mr. Sanders wins in 16' , he may still do a relatively mediocre job at the presidency despite promising all these things. Just look at Obama. He promised CHANGE. HOPE. AND TO FIX THE ECONOMY. 7 years into his presidency. (Bush's equivalent date is December 1, 2007) he has fufilled less than half of what he promised, obamacare is a disaster, and his noninterventionist policies are putting America in jeopoardy. On a site note, Bernie may get HW Bushed' out of the white house in 2020........ I cant see the Dems winning a fourth term for their party.... To radianthead, all the planets in the GOP are aligned except for one; the candidate... unfortunately, that seems to be dividing the house... -Cynthia-
It is true that Americans generally prefer to switch parties after two terms with the same candidate(also to some extent in Congress). Obama's poll numbers aren't terribly low(like George W. Bush), but I wouldn't call them high either. However, it's hard to see a candidate at this point that could effectively unite the GOP. I'm also wary of the viability of 'outsider' candidates in the general election. Edited December 2, 2015 by -Cynthia-

kirby9612
Dubya only won in 2000' by a "freak accident" Had it not been for the supreme court recounting, Gore would have won.... Anyways.. Seems Bernie is the only "truly" left-wing candidate. O' Malley claims to be progressive but insists on declaring war on ISIS and has been ignored by the media. Hillary seems to be a centrist/center right in disguise as a center left candidate However, he may end up becoming the Hillary of 08', losing to Hillary herself during the primaries. The GOP/Dem establishment and Wall Street will not permit Bernie from winning....... Edited December 2, 2015 by kirby9612
kirby9612
Yet another shooting... this time in San Bernardino, this time in a state with relatively stringy gun laws... California.. This time it's targeted at people with developmental disabilities..... Gun control does not lower the frequency of shootings and fatalities.. last one was in a state with moderate gun laws (Colorado) directed toward abortionists...I do not know what is happening but my dad says sleeper cells are being activated.... Tryhard
I mean, if you're gonna bring up gun control, which wasn't relevant in this topic at least for a while AFAIK, maybe saying that one state with stricter gun laws (and I doubt even that more strict) compared to the lax gun control laws the US has like it's applicable to the comparison between the US and to pretty much any other first-world country isn't the best. Shootings happen like every day in many more states i.e: http://shootingtracker.com/wiki/Mass_Shootings_in_2015, and probably even more with a more accurate source. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/12/02/the-san-bernardino-mass-shooting-is-the-second-today-and-the-355th-this-year/ (or 355th this year classified as a 'mass shooting') Edited December 2, 2015 by Tryhard
