All the relatively serious stuff that was happening recently aside, this is pretty hilarious. Or well it would be if he wasn't comparing himself to an event in which thousands of americans died.

Wow...that's actually really insensitive. He did not think that one through. I thought there were people whose job was to prepare speeches and answers for the president. Where were they when Trump said that?

And it also comes off as somewhat ironic, since 9/11 was what kicked off the US "war on terror".

Are you surprised? We're talking about a person who tried to discredit a war veteran for getting captured here. The man has all the empathy and tact of a brick to the dick.

Just asking, or maybe this was already discussed (I haven't read the thread fully), but:

What do you guys think about the recent "mother of all bombs" that was sent down on Afghanistan by the US? I don't really have a much of an opinion on it myself, although, iirc, I did hear that no casualties have been so far found...?

God, if it's such a strong bomb, can we even imagine there would be casualties to be "found?"

Hate to say it, but fear is a weapon that may be more merciful than death. One of the first articles I looked at suggested that was the reasoning for the existence of the bomb.

I don't know about you personally, but let's remember america generally. We've discredited war veterans who were captured before - and perhaps were right not to idolize (link below). I suppose Trump is signature anti-vet though, having done so in a variety of contexts.

Personally having never been a soldier, I refer to an author, who I think said that "wars are fought by soldiers who are afraid to run." I'm not trying to say soldiers are cowards, but that fear of not fighting and the consequences for not doing so are certainly an element.

Yes. The only people running the risk of being blown into such little chunks that they can't be found are probably those caught in the immediate vicinity of the blast. By far the most of it's victims will be made by the blast wave, which can tear pieces off of you, launch nasty things into you, launch you into nasty things etc. They might find you in pieces under a pile of rubble, but they'll find you.

Eh, the newspaper of where I live said it like that. My bad

You know how many people were "Never Trump"? I was "Never Hillary". That should answer your question.

I mean you were pretty pro-Trump, don't even hide it. You just flip-flop to save face. I can dig up quotes pretty easily that show anywhere from mild approval to major approval, including one where you're sucking him off like you were sucking off Nixon only a few pages ago.

In their defense, she's been found guilty, her sentence hasn't been set in stone yet. You're not supposed to disturb court proceedings in any way, shape, or form and that's precisely what she did. Though, I do hope all she gets is community service or something. Jeff Sessions saying that he believes in equal rights is pretty funny.

However, the main issue is that the Department of Justice isn't going after the officer who killed the 15 year old for no reason other than him being black.

Yeah, that woman hasn't been charged yet as a maximum sentence of 1 year in jail, but it was for her shouting as she was escorted out, not her laughing herself, though it is pretty ridiculous that they would ask you to leave for laughing once in the first place.

I guess United Airlines prepares you for this.

I've seen more than a few self-proclaimed libertarians voting for obvious authoritarian strongman Trump, and it makes no sense. They're either not libertarian or lying to themselves.

They support Trump because their libertarianism is selective.

(it happens in the left too, BTW)

To start with, yeah. I remember he did a complete about-face after the whole 'grab'em by the pussy' thing happened and then he became 'never Hillary'. Still extremely pro-Trump before that though.

Absolutely. Not that I would expect them to; nothing has ever come of the hundreds of wrongful police killings before. The only difference this time is the media couldn't unearth some shadily-posed photo/misdemeanor from years prior on the victim.

So Trump signed an executive order to ease restrictions on religious participation. “For too long the federal government has used the power of the state as a weapon against people of faith, bullying and even punishing Americans for following their religious beliefs.” Given the congress and senate is roughly 92% Christian (compared to 73% of the general population) I have to wonder where exactly this supposed persecution is coming from. And there's no way that similar consideration would be given to non-Christian faiths.

The revised healthplan still looks like a complete shitshow, I have no idea where to even begin with that.

I hope this bullshit sends a message to people on the left/people who are in the middle:

Vote, you fuckers. And not just for president.

You already learned how shitty our president can be when you don't vote, now you are learning how shitty the other branches of the government can be.

Every two years. Go vote. Seriously, it takes like, 30 minutes tops.

Seems like non-voters are just intimidated by the responsibility in having a voice. Tsk. Anybody that cares enough about repercussions that they would abstain from voting is probably putting leagues more thought into it than people that do vote. Frustrating.

I don't live in a state or district where it would have made a difference, but I still should have gone ahead with my idea of getting friends together for lunch as we fill out mail-in ballots together.

Even less than that. Know when the midterms are and register in time, and send in your vote by mail.

Register during the summer. Mail your vote out in October. Do it.

Not going to lie, I still don't see a good reason why voting shouldn't be a compulsory thing in the US. Seriously, this is the future of your nation being determined, common sense dictates that a public holiday on the day of voting and making voting compulsory is a no-brainer.

i mean blaming voters is like blaming the basket for not being able to score.  democrats should maybe try to figure out why more people didn't come out to support them, and maybe they need to give people something to vote for, and not something to vote against.

Uhh... no it doesn't. There is a reason it's always been called the "right" to vote. Just because we stress the importance doesn't mean the government is going to drag people out of their homes to push buttons at a voting location. The PRC and DPRK might do that during their "elections" but not the USA, nor will they ever.

A lot of countries have compulsory voting.

For instance: Australia, where Mortarion is from.

Well first of all the PRC doesn't have compulsory voting.

Second of all, you're not being dragged out of your house, nor is the punishment particularly bad. It's literally just a $20 fine for first offenders, $50 if you're a repeat offender. That's not exactly labour camp-levels of oppression, no?
