So... Fates was just Rated by the ESRB

Were is that artwork from anyway? It doesn't seem to be on the smash homepage.

Edit: But man, that would be amazing if they actually did alter her design during localisation to look like this. Of course, I can imagine the cries of "censorship" if this would actually happen, regardless of what the localisations actual motive would be. And I am not the kind of person who "loves the salt" or however people usually phrase it.

You know...i saw the Duel Destinies scene that caused the M rating.

I own a game that had cutscenes fully anime too, that were just as graphic, if not more so. And more frequently. That game was rated Teen. Yeah that game came out in 1998, but...you know...

not understanding why all the sudden anime blood is M territory.

I assumed it was the context and whatnot of the scene that earned it the M rating, which I found rather (appropriately) disturbing, but I would sooner claim to understand the mind of Azathoth than the inner workings of the ESRB. I don't think I've played the game you're referring to either, though, so... I dunno. Maybe they're just inconsistent.

Regarding the change in female Corrin's appearance, my first thought was actually that they just wanted to save time by swapping the head and voice of the male version, but I'm not sure. Are there any other differences between the two in Smash?

...To be honest, I prefer female Corrin's original look to any others. To my eyes, it looks a little weird for a character to be covered just about everywhere but the feet, and less so if they're showing some more skin on the legs. But maybe that's just me.

That's the female warrior from Dragon Quest III, right?

Dammit Toriyama.

Yup, and I can vouch for her power. Dragon Quest 3 is one of those games where a literal "Magic Bikini" is one of the strongest armors in the game, to the point of being the best armor to some classes.

I wish.

You don't have to. I mean, it's not like we can't see an important part of the femenine cast's "v-lines". okay, maybe not an important part, but it's there. Also, Camilla & Charlotte's panty thing. Goes to say how much importance I'm giving this game so far. :awesome:

yeah it was definitely the context, which is implicating something that alot of people would never want to touch or imagen.

tbh the context of Xenogears' cutscenes (which was the game i was talking about) are likely just as graphic or horrific. Lots of death, and in one case, mass death. So..../dancey shrug

Im actually cool with the whole thigh hole-less Femui.

About Smash Corrin,

The original frills are still there:

UVsBeI8.png

What does it mean? ~('' )~

(Well, the frills are on the render posted earlier too)

Yo, tbh thats kinda stylin'.

Real talk though, im really not sure whats going on here. Its not just a color glitch, its pretty deliberate. I wonder if its just a Smash thing....They seem to really want to avoid panty shots and things like that. (even Bayo's trailer is pretty kid friendly considering...)

Also, the female gadabout is a playboy bunny. In the snes and ios versions, she winks seductively as part of her WALKING ANIMATION.

Actually I just finished for the first time DQ3 on the SNES, as a personal Challenge I ran the whole game with a female Jester (as they're called in the SNES patch) and never reclass her to a Sage. It was really curious, but the best moment really has to be when she attempted to perform Puff-Puff on the final boss. Sadly, Zoma was not amused.

Sakurai did say that CERO was pretty stingy about panty shots, so I honestly wouldn't be surprised if what happened was that to meet their standards, he had to edit Corrin's exposed thighs.

That's interesting. I guess that must be a relatively recent thing, given Smash's own history with undergarments or for example Kairi's in Kingdom Hearts 2.

And I guess that also pretty much confirms why Fire Emblem has the CERO rating that it does these days. Nice to see that IS has their priorities straight.

The sole reason the game got a C rating was Camilla's intro scene, as the 25th anniversary book says.

As for panty shots, Smash is rated A; that probably would've raised the rating to a B.

Thank you for the info. I haven't heard about yet.

That's... expected. If this was a different time, I would have assumed that after they not only went through all that trouble and consequential financial investment to animate Camilla's body parts but also accepted a higher rating just for this one scene, that this cutscene which shows Camilla shaking her tits and ass in front of her own brother (with added fourth wall breaking camera angles) would somehow be vital for the story and it's themes, despite of how unlikely it might seem. And somehow, I still want to believe that, even though I know better by now.

While it's natural that all good things come to an end eventually, It feels utterly surreal just how quickly this series has become so cynical. I don't have anything against porn (or whatever term one prefers to use for a piece of media which thinks that providing jerk-off material is more important then captivating stories, fascinating worlds and engaging characters, a description which obviously applies to Fates seeing how Camilla is the player avatar's sister and all), but considering how this series still claims the Fire Emblem name for itself, this state of affairs continues to be depressing.

Well, time to try and track down a translation for those pages, in the hopes that they also talk about the significance of this scene towards their creative vision and hopefully not just whine about the rating board being such a bunch of meanies or whatever.

I doubt you'll find anything of the sort considering the jokes they were cracking on it.

BrightBow focuses on appreciating the honesty about accurately putting the exchange into print instead of the shamelessness of including the comparison in a book dedicated to Fire Emblem's long history, but was saddened anyway.

Well, I suppose I shut up now before this topic goes of the rails.

I don't think it's frustrating that it sells at all, there's room for all sorts of designs and appeals in all media. What's more frustrating (well maybe amusing) is the fact there are a lot of people who generally still don't (or rather, refuse to) acknowledge the difference in pretenses this game's characters are operating under compared to older titles even when developers themselves express such attitudes. Then again, they didn't accept it when Nintendo advertised a groping minigame where characters say things like "It is an honor to be touched by you" as a selling point so...

Reminds me of the people off reddit who got mad about Delphi complaining Cordelia's boob size woes being stupid, and responded to his criticisms by insisting that they were a neccessary and important part of her character, in line with the traditional (their words not mine) "strife, character interaction and development of very human, fictional characters." that the series is known for.

Wooooo reality warping.

I'm frustrated that the developers don't understand how big boobs look or work. I'd more compare Camilla with a blowup doll than a cow which sucks because her face is so pretty.

To be honest, all female Corrin's censorship does is make her look better. The battle panties in Fates are extremely stupid and weigh down character design to appeal to people who want fapping material.

Anyways, poor Camilla. It's a shame considering she could have been a good character but to the developers she's just "big breasts and panties lol I should have gave her dog ears"
