Why do people talk weirdly to babies?

I've addressed this multiple times when I was younger. My parents told me it was stupid. The only thing that my dad does is make his voice more high pitched so he doesn't upset the baby :(

When I have a kid, I'm just gonna set them on the desk and tell them all the parts of a computer. It's reverse parenting technique!

You mean IF you have a kid Then the baby will get all confused and go "Goo?" And I'll pop in and go "GOOOOOOOO" and scare the crap out of him/her.

I admit, maybe tone of voice is a factor. But you can still teach them in a gentle voice.

Well no crap, you think a baby is gonna smile or laugh if some nut speaks to it in an angry tone?

YEs, this is some what weird.

Somewhat relevant: 1 and a half year old started crying on a plane, Mom: "Stop crying like a little baby." That kid WAS a baby. *facepalms*
