I will say, there are some good weapons for him to use until then though. I personally like to give him the Light Brand so he can fight back when attacked by ranged units. I also find Al's Blade to be decent for him. 1 hour ago, Dragonage2ftw said: Ike. He's like Corrin, but worse in every way.
Anacybele
I agree with everyone that says Micaiah and Corrin. For the same reasons too. Though I like Micaiah and female Corrin's designs (mostly). All the female lords barring Celica are meh or terrible to me too, mainly because they always get shoved aside in the story for male lords and it winds up hurting their writing. Celica, I'm not familiar enough with to make an opinion on. Roy also seems very boring and a pretty bad unit until he gets his fire sword at the end. Who decided he should wait to promote until the second to last chapter? Seriously?

Compared to the other Lords, Roy is pretty bad as a unit (not terrible though), maybe tying with Eliwood. But when compared to the units in his own game, Roy's pretty decent. Still not the best but a protagonist doesn't have to be the best in his/her own game. Not gonna argue on the boring part since that's entirely subjective. Personally, i find him to be interesting due to his brains-over-brawn mentality and his inferiority complex, the latter being something i can relate too. 1 hour ago, Anacybele said: Who decided he should wait to promote until the second to last chapter? Seriously? Except he doesn't. He promotes at the end of Ch.21/21x. After that, there's three chapters left+Endgame, which equal to 4 chapters total. That isn't second to last. Unless you failed to get all the Legendary Weapons, in which case Roy does promote in the second to last chapter, but if that happens, that's your fault. His late promotion is a bummer but it's actually not a huge loss considering how easy it is to help him catch up again (at least on Normal). Reality
Gameplay - Sigurd is my least favorite Roy and Miciah being weak positively adds to the level of strategy in the early chapters in their games (not to mention miciah can make use of the wrath skill and such while their isn't much slot competetion with other recruits although you'll probbably take it off her later) Eliwood and Leif are unfairly lumped in with these two- FE5 features hordes of cannon fodder that makes him easy to level up without affecting your other units even if you don't abuse scrolls, by chapter 6 it's likely to have his bulk at a high enough level to make him reliable for the rest of the game if not by chapter 3x . In addition he has fire sword, light brand, and can level up movement. He could even use king sword later on, although you aren't really lacking offensive power in Thracia's lategame to make it neccesary. Eliwood has a much harder time leveling up, but even on Hector Hard mode he can be used in lots of situations. I would argue that General Horace's relatively heavier use of eliwood is one of the secret advantages he uses to win drafts. As a "central strategy unit" which even Leaf can manage, he is admitedly terrible, but he definately remains quite nice if you can bring yourself to see him akin to the offensive support units (mostly the frail mages with no enemy phase outside nosferatu/defense tile tanking), he can manage to hold his own. Now on the contrast to the weak lords (and the pseudo weak lords), we have strong lords, who make the game overall less fun due to hurting the map design. Sigurd helps to invalidates almost any sense of strategy for 5 chapters. Ike is the second worst (for the effect he has on map quality), due to his durability and doubling power despite at least being range locked for most of the game. Also fuck Lyn and Roy for what they did to the Heroes metagame Story - Conquest Corrin -- as far as I'm concerned Conquest is a horror story about that kid from the Twilight Zone and everyone breaks character to be nice to him out of fear of being sent to the cornfield. This is a bit of an unfair exaggeration, and you can see the intention of many aspect of Conquest's plot and Corrin's character, but the way it is in the finished game really is abominable, in both the sense that he is a bad person, and that he makes the story unbalanced from a literary perspective. The only case where that happens is if you fail to get all the Legendary Weapons, but all that really does is just cut out two chapters, making Roy promote at the second to last chapter (also locking you from getting the true ending. A similar deal happens in FE3/12, minus the promotion, because Marth never promotes outside of Warriors. But eh, Roy's not the only one with a late promotion. Eliwood and the Renais Twins have their own late promotions as well. I agree that it's a detriment to Roy's usefulness as a unit but it's not as big of a deal as people make it out to be imo. NoirCore
Aww, another "worst" topic? :P Anyway, I think it'd have to be Corrin, at least as an avatar in the Conquest route. I do find her much more enjoyable in Warriors, however, where she isn't shackled to avatar status. Otherwise, I don't really feel any hate towards lords. Then again, I don't hate too many characters. Celica, I'm not familiar enough with to make an opinion on. You have a fair point. Most of the female Lords do get 'kicked to the curb' per say, in story matter. Possibly, it's due to a more 'time-fitting' setting where most people in power were males. Still, for a Fire Emblem Game, I think Intelligent Systems/Nintendo need to strengthen their female lords to look less 'damsel in distress' or 'I need to relay on ____' trope. Alastor15243
Corrin, because setting aside their cowardice, stupidity, selfishness and complete and near failure to do anything funny, awesome or otherwise memorable over the course of three games... I just don't feel like I'm playing as them. In-level Corrin and out-of-level Corrin feel like they're supposed to be two completely different characters. In-game, I'm controlling one of the most powerful characters in the game and having them lead armies to victory against tremendous odds with (turn based combat assisted) lightning-fast decision making and brilliant tactical maneuvers and long-term planning. And then from when the battle ends until the next one begins I'm watching this character flop around like a blind limbless puppy, showing no critical thinking skills whatsoever, regularly having trouble with trivial opponents, and generally being the biggest pinball protagonist I've ever seen. I cannot think of a single main character in the entire history of the series who feels less like the player character of a strategy game than Corrin does. Lau
Corrin, obviously. But there's two others... Ike "I'll never leave you Mist" of the Greil Mercenaries and Prince "I don't pick a fight that I can't win" Ephraim of Renais. Ike...I just don't understand. What's so appealing about him? Him being a commoner? I don't see how this makes any difference, he acts pretty much the same as any other goddamn royalty in the series - goes on quest, wins, hailed as a hero. Heck, he's even made a lord by Elincia so does it really matter? He mouths off at Sanaki, yet for some reason he came out alive? Sorry, but even if Sanaki was messing around, you can't just speak like that to royalty, especially if you're a peasant. And don't even get me started on RD!Ike. PoR!Ike is tolerable, but oh my god, RD!Ike...he hijacks the entire plot - there's really no reason for him to have such a large role? It was the perfect opportunity to truly bring Elincia and Micaiah to the forefront, but nooo, IS just gives Ike all the glory. And now Heroes calls him the "strongest hero". Excuse me while I go vomit, please. As for Ephraim...luckily his relationship with Eirika plus the 'disgusting' memes redeem him a little for me, but holy damn...this man can do no wrong. He doesn't make mistakes, unlike Eirika, meaning that he doesn't. Learn. A. Single. Thing. I hate using this term, but Ephraim fits the bill - he is a 'gary-stu' in every sense of the word. You know that one kid in the class who is so smart and can do everything? That's Ephraim, that's Mr Perfect. He certainly isn't fit to rule as King, he's too brash. Shove him aside as a General or something. Just get him out of my face.

Excuse me while I go vomit, please. Ike was destined to reappear in RD in some significant role. He does overshadow Micaiah in RD at the end I admit, and I'm not praising his personality either. Sephiran foreshadows Ike's return to a great future at the end of PoR. When you look at PoR, Elincia did not exist until much later in development, but Ike always did and so did Sephiran, who Ike would have a personal connection to. PoR didn't resolve this. They could have gone about things better in RD, but Ike's return to importance should have been no surprise. As for the Sanaki outburst- it happened once. He was sternly told this was his one strike by the absolute limits of the mercy of the Apostle Empress. It isn't like Sanaki just said "Please don't do that again, k' Ike? I love you!" She warned him, and he did it in the name of his employer's honor which is understandable Sanaki admits. He doesn't say "Let me put my muddy boots on your robes you purple haired brat!" and ask for a beer on the double. Here is the relevant script, read what you will from it. Spoiler Before battleSanakiAhem...Now then, you have proclaimed yourself to be the orphan of Crimea's King Ramon. Princess Elincia Ridell Crimea, correct?ElinciaYes.SanakiI have heard stories that King Crimea had a daughter in secret. My men have reported as much to me in the past. However, whether you are that princess or not is another tale. Do you have nothing that would lend credence to your claims?ElinciaNothing at all. It took all my energy simply to avoid capture by Daein. I had no time to secure any proof of my claim.SanakiHmph. And with Crown Prince Renning also dead, there is no one who even knows your face. What am I to do?IkeI will vouch for her.ElinciaMy lord Ike!IkeI have no doubt that Princess Elincia is the true heir to the throne of Crimea.SanakiOh, really? And tell me, what gives you this strength of conviction? If we believe her story, this woman has not engaged with the outside worldsince the day she was born. So how is it that you, a lowly mercenary, dare to assert her authenticity?IkeThe Daein army pursues her with bloody-minded determination. At every turn, they demand that we turn Princess Elincia over to them. What further proof do you need?SanakiHmm... If someone of...proper standing made that pronouncement, I would accept it as irrefutable proof. But you... You're a commoner. You have no surname, no documented lineage...You have nothing. I know commoners. They are poor. For a price, they will support any lie, no matter how outlandish.Ike...SanakiOh! Now, I suppose you will tell me you are the son of some noble house? No, of course not. But wait, perhaps you're a royal knight of Crimea?IkeI am neither a noble nor a knight. I have no connection with the palace whatsoever. And no matter how much gold I stood to gain, I would not betray my convictions. Elincia has paid us, yes, but nothing more than the standard fee to purchase our services as her escort. Nothing more. We have come this far only because we believe Elincia to be a woman of integrity. We would not sell our swords to a liar. I don't care how high and mighty you might be. I will not stand here and let you mock the bond of trust that ties us to Elincia.ElinciaMy lord Ike!LekainHow dare you! Who are you to address the apostle so crudely! Guards! Guards! Seize this man! For his abuse of the apostle, the penalty can be only death!SanakiHalt!...Ha ha! Ha ha ha! Sephiran was right about you. You are very interesting.LekainA-Apostle?IkeSephiran? That monk we rescued from the prisons?SanakiA monk, was it? His disguises are always so clever. It never ceases to amaze me. As always, he remains an enigma. Heed my words! Sephiran is in truth Duke Belsys, prime minister of Begnion and my most trusted advisor. He has been traveling the neighboring lands for months, trying to ascertain the condition of the people there.SigrunWe have received detailed reports on Princess Elincia and the mercenarycompany serving as her escort.IkeSo...you knew we were coming. You knew who we were all along.SanakiYes. I apologize for testing you. You see, life here in the palace is dreadfully dull. I am always so very bored. Thanks to the princess and her brazen little escort, this interrogation proved to be an amusing diversion.OliverOh ho ho! So that's what this was! How very like you, Apostle. A cunning game of wits and words. Simply smashing! Even your most loyal servant, Duke Oliver of Tanas, was on the verge of being completely fooled. I am humbled!Oh ho ho! Come, Duke Lekain!LekainAh-ahem. It was all a ruse, was it?...Oh, Apostle, you do tease us so mercilessly! Still, it was not such a bad way to amuse ourselves, was it, Duke Hetzel?HetzelHoo! Too true, my good duke! Princess Crimea, it appears that you have put quite a smile on the face of our beloved apostle. What an honor that must be! Hoo hoo hoo!Elincia...Ah... Um...Yes... I suppose...IkeMadness!SanakiOh, yes, I almost forgot in all the fun...Sephiran has already vouched for your identity as the true princess of Crimea. I require no further proof. You may rest easy.ElinciaI am...most grateful.IkeWait a minute!SanakiYes?IkeWhat is the meaning of this? You knew Elincia was Princess Crimea? And you continued to humiliate her for your own entertainment? For some stupid game of wits and words? This is no joke!Sanaki...IkeElincia's homeland is lost to her! Her family has been hunted down and killed by the monsters of Daein! And with nowhere else to turn, she endures mortal danger and terrible heartbreak to reach your door. And then you...you laugh at her?! Where is the humor in that? Where is your decency? You're horrible! You are all horrid people! You disgust me beyond words! And you owe Elincia a proper apology.ElinciaMy... My lord Ike, please--LekainWretched peasant! You loose that treasonous tongue once more, and--SanakiDuke Lekain, restrain yourself!LekainBut... But...SanakiI am speaking. Be still.LekainGrrr...SanakiNow then, Ike. I fully understand your feelings. Your passion for your employer is truly a beautiful thing. Would that my own fawning vassals shared your commitment. However, truth be told, your behavior does test my patience. Raise your voice once more to me, and you will seriously damage the princess's already precarious position. Do you understand?SanakiNot really. Why don't you fill me in Even if Elincia is truly Crimean royalty, she is at best heir to a dead country. Nothing more. Without Begnion's support, Elincia's claim holds no meaning. Am I mistaken?IkePah!SanakiEven if we harm her fragile feelings, for the sake of her country's future, she must stand by and say nothing. In fact, she is in no position to do anything but beg for Begnion's favor. Or...hadn't you noticed?Ike...SanakiI have much to consider. For now, I shall take my leave of you. I will meet with my senators soon and discuss this state of affairs. Crimea's future will not be uncertain for long. Until that time, I suggest you rest and relax. Perhaps you could try your hand at our courtly games of...wit and words? *Ike leaves Elincia and Sanaki* IkeWhat incredible nerve! To take advantage of our situation and speak down to us like that...I don't care if she's the empress or the apostle or whatever! I can't stand her!TitaniaListen, Ike, isn't it possible that the apostle saved you?IkeWhat?NasirTitania is correct. Begnion is a nation ruled by time-honored custom and ancient conventions. You insulted the apostle--the very symbol of their way of life. The fact that you are still breathing is a miracle.IkeI...hadn't realized.NasirAnd as her escort, your criminal behavior would fall directly on your employer, Princess Elincia. If you had truly angered the apostle, any hope of restoring Crimea would have vanished like a puff of smoke.IkeThat's madness! They would sacrifice a whole country to satisfy their own egos?SorenIke... This may not be much of an answer, but letting madness rule the day is the prerogative of nobility. The beorc divide themselves into classes. And with classes come prejudice. From the moment of our birth to our final dying gasp, we commoners know we are not allowed to defy the upper classes.IkePrincess Elincia...I... I'm sorry. My ignorance does not excuse my stupidity. ...I truly am sorry.ElinciaNo. I...What you said, you said in my defense and in my honor. It made me very pleased.IkeHuh?ElinciaTo see you so angry on my behalf...Your words filled my heart.IkeIt wasn't as noble as you make it sound.ElinciaHowever, there is one point that I would contest. It is true that I've lost my family...and my home. But I did have people to turn to...People to rely on. My lord Ike, you and your company were at my side. For me, this has been a great source of inspiration and of happiness.IkePrincess Elincia...ElinciaMy lord Ike... Please call me Elincia.IkeHuh? That would be improper, wouldn't it? I mean, you're our employer, and...ElinciaYou called me so earlier.IkeI did? Really?ElinciaYou didn't notice?IkeNo, I... Oh. My aplogies. I'll be more careful. Well, I suppose we should go. They've prepared rooms for us. A little later Here is proof from post-base that same chapter that shows Ike managed to learn to hold his tongue: Spoiler keDid you have some reason for coming to speak with us?SigrunI bring word from the apostle...She wishes to charge you with a task.IkeThe apostle wants to employ us!?TitaniaI didn't expect this.IkeExpect what?TitaniaYour reaction. I'd have thought that you would be spouting and fuming at the thought of working for the apostle.IkeIf Princess Elincia can tolerate endless social gatherings to judge Begnion's mood and garner her favor, the least I can do is help her earn points by running an errand or two. Although he does have a mini outburst at the end of C16, which is mitigated because it brings up the Serenes Massacre. Sanaki presumably bears with it initially because Ike is being helpful towards her via mercenary work and calmed down before after a warning. Spoiler SigrunAh, Master Ike. It is good to see you well. Book Bro
Corrin, for the usual reasons. I'll sum it up as him being an idiot who is worshipped despite that fact. Chrom, he actively ignores history and just marches around acting high and mighty because he's the prince. He's selfish and hypocritical, shown in the ending where he prefers to save one life to doom countless others just bc it's Robin. He's made out to be more talented and wiser than he is. He's also pretty dull otherwise.
