XRay
As you can see, Digimon offers better waifus. However, despite having higher quality waifus, when you grab the measuring tape and compare Digimon's and Pokémon's fanbases, Pokémon's fanbase is larger and harder core than Digimon's fanbase. Do not worry, Digimon, at least your fanbase is bigger and harder core than Fire Emblem's fanbase; and definitely ginormous and rock solid compared to Advance Wars' fanbase, although that is not saying much. Therefore, from what I can conclude, franchises with bigger fanbases have shittier taste, but can also produce a bigger load in their companies' hands. Do you agree with this assessment? Digimon waifus: Pokémon waifus: As a bonus, here is Digimon lion husbando vs Pokémon cat husbando, and as you can see, there is huge gap in the quality of husbandos: Spoiler Since we are on a Fire Emblem website, here are some examples of superior spouses that Fire Emblem has over both Digimon and Pokémon: Spoiler Best Mortal Waifu: Best Goddess Waifu: Strongest Husbando: Sexiest Voice Husbando: On 10/12/2019 at 8:58 PM, Ingrid Brandl Galatea said: Are you the new Soul now? I think Fire Emblem has closed the gap a bit now, but I think I still lean towards Digimon being bigger. Fire Emblem is big enough to have a card game, but it is not big enough to have toys and anime released regularly for it, unlike Digimon. Interdimensional Observer
As the joke inventor of a topic now under a four-thousand-years seal about dating Gardevoirs and Tyranitars, I'm a little concerned about this topic's endpoint. 46 minutes ago, Glennstavos said: I generally turn my nose at folks who seem to care more about the people characters in pokemon more than the pokemon. This was a normal thing because long ago people and Pokémon were the same." The English localization dropped the marriage and said "very close" and "sat at the same table" instead. It translates the last sentence as: "It was a time when there existed no differences to distinguish the two." The final sentences either way allow one to downplay the marrying. Since they can be interpreted to mean humans and Pokemon were the same... phylum? I wouldn't say "species", but "genus" sounds too low scientifically too. But does phylum keep them too separate? "Class" then? Whatever word you use, it'd still arguably works against notions of Poke-bestiality. If we had Beastman-Who-In-Three-Hundred-Thousand-Years-Evolves-To-Human horn drilling Beastman-Who-In-Three-Hundred-Thousand-Years-Evolves-To-Mew, it isn't such a problem. The Digimon look far more humanoids than I'd have expected, even if I vaguely recall from the one season I watched of the anime that the little siblings had angelic monsters. The red witch girl looks like a Yugi-oh recolor. And the blindfolded women in the middle remind of this: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner's (and a great many subsequent games) Angel design. It has a blue variant without the bondage too, the breasts get some cloth over them, but nothing for the lower regions. -But I think there is a problem if Digimon, kid-friendly I assume if it competes with Pokemon, has designs that remind me of SMT. You'd be surprised. I can only really speak about Digimon Adventure... but I'd say that, they didn't held the punches. Even if it was kid "friendly". Although, I'm not fully talking about Digimon designs here. Digimon as a whole can't really be compared to Pokémon, ultimately.

See I think there's an interesting discussion to be held in the pokemon world about whether humans are actually some species of pokemon. Have we ever seen any non plant life that isn't a species of pokemon? Humans can't perform moves, but they're key to tapping into the potential of these creatures through mega evolution, z-moves, even friendship based evolutions. But when you bring up marriage it's like...who in that world is actually married? I see parent characters, but I don't see no ring on 'em. 25 minutes ago, Troykv said: They're Digital Monsters, but many of them were indeed designed to be sexy. Yeah, to emulate the real life "mad women who tempted me to adultery so I had to burn her at the stake". We've all been there. My issue is when ten year old protagonists command these obviously-humans like cattle. Gross. And when they have human speech and refer to you as "master" ugh. At least call me daddy if the goal is to titillate.

America is A okay with exposing violence to kids. Personally, I think kids are more mature than adults give them credit for, so I am not concerned about kids drinking, playing GTA, or watching porn. I think it is more important to focus on teaching kids be kind and empathetic than policing their habits if the habit does not harm anyone. I think the classical line of thinking is that our habits don't live in isolation from the rest of us, so something which is superficially harmless can ultimately have negative effects. Hence the term "corrupting the youth" in discussions of the matter. Certainly the kind and empathetic parts could deal with a good more emphasis as well, though. *** Honestly the Digimon stuff sounds lame. You guys want to see some real digital monsters? Spoiler Now that's a digital monster. The Battle Network games actually had really interesting character designs for digital entities. The designers gave themselves a series of rules for those designs, so that even the most humanoid of them didn't boil down to "sexy human." There was a distinct aesthetic to them. Acacia Sgt
Can't speak about years ago; but the thing is, Digimon nowadays caters as much to teenagers and young adults as they do to kids. Part of it is due to still wanting to reach out to the now grown-up kids that were the first generation of fans. Though once again, I don't just mean the Digimon designs. Shin Megami Tensei and Digimon have one thing in common: both have their monsters come from other worlds, but while the monsters in SMT are actual gods and creatures from myths, religion and legends, the creatures in Digimon are digital lifeforms whose looks are only loosely based on those creatures and has made up some of their own stuff, as well. Story-wise, Shin Megami Tensei deals with a conflict between Law, Chaos and Neutrality in many of its stories. Neutral is anti-extremism and pro-humans, Law is full obedience to God (YHVH) and His angels and complete loss of all individuality, Chaos is survival of the fittest (basically a return to nature) in a world filled with demons, usually perpetuated by Lucifer himself, and complete loss of all kindness and charity. Basically, it teaches you that the Abrahimitic religions are garbage. Digimon meanwhile deals mostly with themes such as growing up, friendship, responsibility, and loss. You might call it more suited for children as there are some valuable lessons to be gained (one that stuck with me in particular comes from Digimon Tamers (the third and best season): change perspective and what is seen as good and evil will change with it). For fun, here's what Digimon's depiction of a Seraph (a type of angel) looks like: And here's SMT's: Fun fact: the lower one is more accurate to real life depictions of them.
