It's still less abrupt than Yoshi's New Island's final boss though. I knew Ridley was going to appear when I first played Samus Returns, but I was pleasantly surprised to see him in a transitionary stage between Meta Ridley and his fully organic self. My second impression was that Ridley looks cool in 3D and it was a shame he was never going to be playable in Super Smash Bros. I can't wait to see how he looks in Dread (if he's in it). My first playthrough of Samus Returns finished with a time of 9:55:12; this time I finished with 8:21:28 with 38% of items obtained. I obtained 100% of collectibles in my first file but I didn't feel like doing it again this time, since I already have all of the Chozo Memories. Speaking of which, it's cool how it set up for Dread and that we'll meet the mysterious evil Chozo in person (amongst other Chozo for the first time). I can see it now, Samus prepares to fight the Chozo general for the last time, only for him to reveal his ultimate weapon as the final boss... Diggernaut Mk. II!
