  1. I personally would prefer a side story thing rather than a full retelling of some of the Fire Emblem stories if they were to make more films of the IP.

Don't get me wrong, I would love if they were to make the same story in big pictures or anime and it has the potential to fix some of the issues we have with some of the stories but new content is much preferred then the same old same old.

  2. I haven't even done any of the sidequests yet lol. I'll probably do them after Chapter 5 or something. This game sure does get a lot harder, it's the enemy sessions that always get me.

It's kind of a good idea to do so. You gain exp each time you beat them so it makes the game less grindy.

  4. I believe each path (3 in total.) has a total of 27 chapters in the main story. And the game has 22 paralogue(s) with 4 hero battles and around 22 xenologue(s). A total of 129 chapter so far. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    This is #FE. Not Fates.

To answer your question OP, prologue + 8 chapters or so plus tons of sidequests.

  5. I'm not good at writing reviews, but is it okay to simply say that I'm really enjoying the game?

The gameplay is amazing and I'm enjoying the Idol stuff more than I thought I would.

I really like the little details such as referring to the party as Main Cast, starting a New Game is called debut, Equipment is called Wardrobe and so on. It's a really neat detail.

yeah I honestly didn't expect it.

I knew I would enjoy the gameplay since the E3 2015 reveal but the battle mechanics are actually pretty good. The small little cameo references are adorable and honestly the idol stuff while is part of the main theme is pretty subtle. At first I thought I wouldn't like Tsubasa but I'm starting to warm up to her.

  6. I think you will be in for a fun ride and your mindset will be rewarded. The most common "criticism" I have heard about this game is that it's not SMT ro FE and/or is a Persona ripoff. Granted, Nintendo has some fault for marketing in as a crossover in the beginning, but they rectified this and now it's a standalone game. And if actual players and gaming sites think it's good, it's safe to say the game at least merits a playthrough. One definitive negative game is Mighty No. 9, which has been lambasted by any and all and now I am pretty sure I won't buy that game at all.

On another note, is there anybody here who is planning on doing a small (and serious) review of the game ? It's maybe pointless since most are positive towards it anyway but it's good to know the impressions from a fellow (and serious) FE gamer.

I might. So far 3 and a half hours into the game. I am really enjoying the game and I'm currently playing hard mode too.

  8. I think that's the thing. Like I said earlier, I think it looks pretty decent but I haven't ever played a Paper Mario game. I'm guessing that I would have a stronger opinion if applied to some of the other games? I'm also personally willing to try something new when it comes to changes in the formula for a series... however, apparently this game has a lot of inspiration from Sticker Star, so I can't really say that people aren't giving the game player shot if it's the same gameplay as sticker star. Because it seems like fans of the previous games especially TTYD are disappointed that it doesn't look up to their standards, which is fair.

Then go out and actually play the series and form a proper opinion instead of constantly saying this looks kind of cool then. I know I seem harsh but it would be nice if people actually played the games and get a perspective to why some of us are having very strong opinions about it. Derrick from Gamexplain even decided to give the series a chance and now he understands the frustration of the fans and why so many people are upset. Even the Japanese fans are upset and Sticker Stars sold the most in that region too.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/papermario/comments/4ofmvg/japanese_fans_reactions_to_color_splash_part_2/

Paper Mario is on sale on the Wii U eshop right now for 5 bucks and the wii version can be easily accessible too for a very cheap price at 10 bucks or so. It was worth the 80 bucks I had to pay back during the N64 days. The TTYD can easily be emulated provided you can get a decent PC rig.

  9. Yes, but HP Up-Hearts will still exist, which replaces an HP level-up. Card capacity and amount of cards per turn can also be increased, which is basically FP. The only thing with no analog is BP.

And admittedly, if the gameplay is fun, I could do it without reward. I would often get into battles in Sticker Star just because I found the battle system so fun.

That's the main problem. You have to find them outside of battles to actually gain more HP. Sure HP up badges existed in previous titles but you still gained HP by battling and leveling up. So in the end there still is no purpose to actually battle to gain any of the important stats for Mario.

  10. And see, for me, I don't really have a preferred genre. I just need to enjoy the gameplay, mainly. And if the game has a story and characters, I want to enjoy them too. RPG elements or no RPG elements. Though I think I do lean a LITTLE bit more towards less RPG elements.

I enjoyed TTYD for the most part, but I still prefer Super Paper Mario which lacks the turn-based battle system and more traditional partners. It plays more like the usual platforming Mario, just with exp and leveling up. The story is the best I've ever seen in a Mario game too, imo. Tippi and Count Bleck are also amazing characters. Also, it produced my favorite video game villain of all time: Mr. L. <3

the thing is, if battles actually had a proper purpose where if I battled tons of enemies and I actually gained level ups with stat increases then I wouldn't have been so harsh with the system. Sadly that's not the case with this formula.

It feels like playing Fire Emblem where you remove the exp and level up system and made it so that you constantly run away from the enemies and you only gain stats only if you have beaten the chapter.

  11. You know, about that part about Miyamoto, I do not buy the saying that he is the reason of all this. In my eyes, Intelligent Systems lost their creative talent years ago.

Miyamoto is always in favour of focusing on gameplay instead of story and likely had his fair share of influence on designing the game, but he could not have been the key reason Sticker Star became what it was.

Even then, the gameplay battle system isn't good at all. There is literally no reason to battle enemies in Paper Mario SS since there is no exp system and they only drop coins which you can find scattered everywhere. The coins then lets you buy more stickers but you can find an abundent of them already in the levels anyway so there was no point of buying them either. The bosses not to mention do tons of damage to you almost killing you immediately. The best method of beating them is find a sticker that destroys them in literally 2 or so hits. That's lazy gameplay design at its core. The sad part is, Morton as shown in the Treehouse live does the same exact thing. Kills you in 2 hit until you find the item that would one shot kill him immediately.

Old Paper Mario require you to plan, assess and modify your badges and movesets as much as possible to enable these kind of damage. So there are tons of strategies involve with that system and it was simple enough for even a beginner casual fan to learn. This one has none of that.

If the mention of focus on gameplay is this, I am at a loss for words for the Paper Mario team as a whole. It so sad to see this because whoever worked on the graphics and environments did a phenomenal job and it is wasted on a terrible gameplay design. There is no reward for this system to make the player satisfied for what they are doing.

  12. So all you want is another PM64 re-hash, right?

It's better than the system we have in Sticker Stars or this game.

This argument holds no water considering the character designs, enemies, the NPCs, the bosses are way more rehashed than the first two paper Marios. Early Paper Mario games have more unique aesthetics and character designs. For example, while there were toads everywhere, many of toads all have unique looks to them that are fitting for the settings that they are in. They had professor looking toads, a train conductor, a disko looking toad and girl toads.

This game has none of that. It's all the same recoloured toads. That's lazy design at its core.

You also can't really say this considering the amount of people who want the classic Fire Emblem style gameplay.

  13. They reuploaded it. Although I heard they edit and cut out one of the question and answer.

Unfortunately it still didn't convince me. The battle system is still pointless. The bosses still have that one card that will destroy them completely. While the writing is a bit better, the character npc designs are still the same copy and paste. Still no partners, no unique worlds and very little actually improved. Still a no buy.

  14. You ever hear the saying, it's not the destination, it's the journey? They're giving you the freedom to have as much of a journey as you like. And personally, I quite like that (and I personally will be exploring every possible nook and cranny that I can before heading towards the final boss's lair.) Hell, had you not needed a sword and the eight pieces of the Triforce in the original game, you could have practically beaten the entire game just by going to Ganondorf's lair, if memory serves.

Not to mention many open world games does their story telling like this just by the environments and not by character interactions. Metroid Prime's story is mostly told by the log datas found in the environments you explore when you are in enemy bases and search for goods. Fallout does most of its story telling by observation of the environments like why did everyone die in this facility and the evidence that is left over gives you the entire story of it all.

  15. Btw, kingddd, I noticed you were getting in some hits on those joints in your playthrough. Did you notice that they were targets or did you just hit them coincidentally?

Otherwise, I am struggling pretty hard with that whole 100% completion thing. Like, on Corneria 2 my best score is 324, almost 50 points away from the medal. No idea how to squeeze so many additional points out of that level.

Yeah I noticed it on my 2nd playthrough but I prefer destroying the hatches because I got so used to the original Star Fox gimmick.

Corneria 2 is a nuisance to get a gold on it. I still can't consistently shoot down falling ships to get the extra +1s.

  16. Why do you care about frames at all? They don't matter at all, if the game is playable and pretty, that's enough, no need to nitpick when it doesn't affect gameplay.

Generally I can enjoy everything, but I have an affinity towards 16 bit sprites, but with a more modern style. Stuff like this.

As someone who plays PC games a lot it actually can affect gameplay input significantly. More frames means more smother render on screen and therefore it has a more responsive input for the player. When I played many first person shooters when it's 30fps, I usually do okay but when I upgraded to 60fps, my ability to do the same thing was much easier and i performed significantly better than I was playing at a lower framerate.

More frames is great for intense reaction based games like shooters, racing, fighting, heavy platforming etc.

Genres like adventure games, rpgs, turn based strategy style games don't really need all that to generally perform well.

However consistent FPS is the main key for most game developers and players.

Now I will say though I myself am not too picky with frames either but a small input delay can greatly affect a lot of player's performance especially in the competitive scenes.

  17. Finally got a full default playthrough with the Radio Banters in the video too! Arcade mode is honestly the most fun to play with Star Fox 0.

I still have a bit of trouble trying to take down Wolf before he gets Peppy though. I'm always at a tiny hp left before it happens.

  18. Since when is PH easy? Apart from the NES titles, I think Phantom Hourglass is actually the hardest game. Personally, as much as I want to like DSLoZ, the fact that the only non-touchscreen game for the DS was a Four Swords port that isn't even available anymore (I would pay to have it on e-shop. Please, Nintendo!) I don't have an opinion on ST yet, but I doubt it'll be much better, especially because I hate touch controls.

a lot of stuff was point out to you with the exception of that one puzzle that people got stuck on which I didn't because I played Trace Memory before playing PH. Combat was mostly spamming the same slash touch input. Puzzles were very basic even for a Zelda game. Dungeons didn't really offer anything really different from other titles. It was honestly the easiest Zelda handheld title.

Spirit Tracks fixes a lot of those issues with the overall difficulty and dungeon designs with the only exception of the overworld being severely limited with the Train movements.

  19. Unfortunately the NA version doesn't have different language settings even if you change the 3DS language options unlike most 3DS games. The only way to play in different languages is to get the European version for French and Spanish sadly.
