  1. Laurent can't safely VV unless he's paired with Lucina, who is currently being hogged by Morgan.

In my case it's different. I actually would rather have Morgan participate as a Ignis/Luna Galeforce skirmisher who marries one of the gale girls (Gaius!Kjelle in my file) as opposed to having him hog Lucy as a VV unit. He isn't in dire need of Lucy's amazing powers since he himself is amazing. Laurent, on the other hand, doesn't have Galeforce so his only choice is to VV in order for him to reach his full potential. Might as well let Laurent have his day, right?

I don't think I've seen this being menioned, but did you know Lon'qu!Laurent has the same "sweet spot" mod spread as a +Mag/-Def MU in Magic and Defense? Namely, +4 Mag and -3 Defense, and the huge +5 skill mod makes up for the lack of skill +2 access when reaching the 100% DS threshold. Pretty cool.

  2. By what measure? If you're comparing how many viable options he has, Donnel is the best pairing for one unit and a good option for two others (Sully, Tharja/Nowi). That's not even enough to beat Virion, who many consider to be the worst father in the game (for the record, those people are wrong) (Virion works very well on Severa, Brady, Nah and Yarne).

Not saying he's a bad father, just questioning how far above the pack he really is. I, for one, would much rather lose him than the likes of Lon'qu, Henry or Libra.

    For Noire and Kjelle only*

It's not much, but granting galeforce to a girl who doesn't have it is always a good thing.

  3. If you only care about the maximum number of Galeforce units possible, use Avatar x Nowi, Sully x Donnel and Tharja x Gaius.

You don't mention whether you're doing psotgame (DLC) or just using the children for the main story, but getting all of them is fairly useless for the latter. Unless you're doing postgame (and even if you are) I'd recommend several playthroughs with several pairings each to get a better feel of how children work before making a big plan (this is your second playthrough of the game, but still your first one with children...).

Bold: Very, very good advice. Take heed, OP. I didn't fully understand the mechanic until the end of my 3rd playthrough. If you do enough digging, you could even find a good pairing that isn't talked about often (like Vaike!Severa and Ricken!Inigo).

  4. Apo under these restrictions wouldn't be that hard to someone who's played it twenty times and is accustomed to making damage calcs and meeting thresholds, but to someone who's only beaten Normal and none of the DLC maps it would probably be impossible. Remember that outside of SF Apo has a bit of a reputation for being brutal even with no holds barred.

I feel like this needs repeating. It's something a lot of people miss when they say "lolol Apo so ez".

To the average player with no prior knowledge of the map, Apotheosis is a very difficult map. To the person who has cleared it 20 times due to know the ins and outs of the map like the back of their hand, of course it is easy.

  5. This is probably a good showcase on just how easy FE13's Normal Mode is.

Lol you got that right. He had so many sacrificial lambs...

I remember my first playtrough of FE7, I tried to train EVERYBODY, so when picking units to go out to battle I would go, "Oh I haven't used you in a while. I need to train you." I ended up sending out Lucius as a Lv 5 Monk into Chapter 20 and wondering why he kept dying.

Fuckin' this. I don't like leaving people behind. Heck even limited deployment slots bothered me at first. I like ALL the characters, why can I only use 25% of them :(

I got used to it though. Now I just like characters based on their bases and growths, lol. Saves me the guilt of leaving people behind.

  6. I think a more pertinent question for you would be how to get the most out of the pairings you have. (though I wouldn't be of much help regardless, apologies)

I can help out... I think.

    Lonny!Brady - God. Astra/Luna Sage.

Kellam!Owain - Owain still gets Luna, so he can Astra/Luna proc stack. Stick to Sage

Vaike!Inigo - There is just too much overlap here. The only class Inigo is getting is Trickster. Trickster fucking sucks. He'll still doing a ton of damage as a support thanks to that +4 Sr mod though.

Henry!Severa - Really solid mod spread. Notably +3 Str and +5 Skl. Her only faire is Axefaire inheritance from Henry, so she's just begging to be a Hero. Vengeance is great as a standalone proc so you aren't missing much by not having Luna.

The only one that's hard to salvage here is Vaike!Inigo. The other 3 are great.

  7. As stated before, there is a pairing thread chock full of info. It helped me out a ton.

I'll list my preferred pairings for the hell of it anyway.

    Chrom x Sumia

    Olivia x Freddy

    Lissa x Ricken

    Maribelle x Virion

    Miriel x Gregor

    Sully x Gaius

    Tharja x Donnel

    Nah x Vaike

    Cordelia x Lon'qu

    Cherche x Stahl

    FeMU x Virion!Brady - Mag focused Morgan

    FeMU x Freddy!Inigo - Str focused Morgan

MaMU x Chrom!Cynthia - Aether Morgan. I like this couple so that Laurent can marry Lucina for VVDS+.

  8. i like Donnel as a father because pegknight access to girls who want it and Aptitude because grinding Donnel is a pain. Sure, the child unit is gonna take a hit in the stats department cuz im not grinding up Donnel, but Aptitude makes it so they catch up real quick. I used to grind him. I dont even care anymore. Hes breeding fodder.

But he's GOOD breeding fodder lol. Both Noire and Kjelle gain so much from him. Fuck Nah. She doesn't even have Luna at base >_>

  9. I'm going to respond to your limb here and say that the "gameplay" of 8bit RPGs deserves quotation marks around it and that the "effort" is either brainless or so obtuse as to be pointless/frustrating.

Integ for Mod of the Year pls.

Damn conveniences these days making life easier. Back in my day basic tasks were a pain in the posterior and we liked it!

  10. All+2 is in CoY3.

The best Streetpass strat I've seen (and the one I'm currently using) is Airship Canon's Counter Aggression strategy (10 Generals/Heroes/Warriors/Wyvern +Str/-Def Avatars with LB/Agg/Ignis/Luna/Counter and +3/25 Braves), which at least insures the player dies if they can't manage a 1-turn route. Lethality doesn't even insure that, if you do get an attack in there's only a chance for the foe to die. The only other things you can do are troll teams based around being useless for non-combat purposes and troll teams based around game spoilers.

That General build sounds so incredibly lolsy it's amazing. Only Airship would come up with some that devious.

I personally just max my stats and put my streepass up for showoff purposes. I like to show my pairings to other people.

...Though I doubt anyone I pass will appreciate the effort that went into them :MarcusYoung:

  11. Indeed. In fact, and im the last person to make this kind of argument, but hating Sumia because of this reason smacks of sexism something fierce and its nauseating. After careful observation, this seems to be the root of why Sumia is so loathed by Chrom/Avatar fans.

    tumblr_inline_mz2b2n1zg91s8aoba.gif

Damn it Loki why do you always have the best gifs

Lol, Chrom x FeMU fans jelly that Sumia is the preferred girl. This has been a problem since the game came out.

Nah, that honor goes to Chrom.

FP3 Grima: Lololol I killed Chrom!

Inigo: ...You killed my father. Prepare to die.

And the post of the year award goes to you!

    Armsthrift+Sol+Luna+Bowfaire+Swordfaire shenanigans.

Also the hair color suits her, IMO

Gregor's red hair contrasts with Noire's green outfit so perfectly it is ridiculous.

  12. Don't mean to criticize or anything, but doesn't pretty much every game in the series feature a suspend function for exactly that purpose? It's even automatically built in to the gameboy games.

Booting up a save state is quicker. I can boot it up before the title screen appears, lol.

  13. I'm asking third time: what is your reason to use savestats?

    Plz, give me reasons, examples.

It's quicker than autosave. I can boot up a save state before the title screen even shows up.

I also said earlier that I use them Genealogy style, at the start of every turn to save my progress. I simply don't feel like redoing the same first 5 turns because of a mistake I make on turn 6. It saves time. By the way, I use them for the GBA games AKA fixed RNG. In Genealogy I use them when I forget to use my start of the turn save. It happens.

There's also the people that use it for mechanical reasons.

That's absolutely not what I'm assuming. I already brought this up in either my first post or my second post. If I were doing an LTC run of FE9 and I had save states available, I'd use them to get that 7% crit on Petrine in 23, for example. Convenience is fine as long as it doesn't get in the way of my making a strategy.

Anyways, I don't really care much if anyone is a bad player. That doesn't give me a reason for arrogance, nor does it give me a reason to look down on anyone. It's just a game; there's only overly sensitive children (and one child in the body of a 30 year old) here who take it far too seriously.

Reading your posts, it sounded like you were conflating the use of save states with lack of adequate strategy. If that's not what you're trying to say then no problem.

Abusing save states does interfere with strategy. If that's the only point you're trying to make then I agree.

  14. The funniest part about the above post, the same phrases are being said.

How do you put up with it, Rey?

To be honest, I don't like Suma. My dislike for her wouldn't be so bad, if the game didn't decide to shove SumiaxChrom all up in my face. All that she has going for her character is falling over air. When she's pretty boring and at times she can be annoying. The only time I find her remotely okay and not annoying is during her supports with Henry. (Yes, I am super harsh.)

Olivia is like the only girl I would ever give Chrom to besides the Female Avatar. I find her more interesting plus Inigo is hilarious. XD

Olivia's interesting but Sumia isn't, despite the fact that they are extremely similar in personality except Sumia doesn't take it to anime extremes?

    Have a seat.

  15. Make up for a lack of skill. Save states make it trivial to fix your mistakes and they also allow you to manipulate luck as you choose so you get your desired outcome.

Before I was even a teenager, I used to use save states for almost every move because I just wasn't good enough to beat chapters while keeping my units alive. I needed to manipulate luck to fix the mistakes I made. Obviously, I improved (all of my LTCs are done on console). People here should do the same if they want to be considered as a good player.

The problem here is that you're assuming the only use for save states is abuse. Your points about abusing them are valid, but using them for the sake of convenience =/= abusing them. This is why there is friction in this thread.
  16. Hehe. I'm a ninja.

Anathema is definitely another good use of Henry!Cynthia's time. Having the lead unit's Crit go from ~5 to ~15 triples the amount of crits you make, and if you forge with +9 crit instead of +15 Hit they come quite frequently. But don't underestimate stacking statboosting skills- All+2 essentially multiplies LB's effect by 1.2, adds a maximum of 8 damage from dual strikes per battle, and in some cases breaks big Spd thresholds.

AS+2 can meet some pretty cool benchmarks but since Sumia's Speed and Skill genetics are so Alpha Cynthia won't need AS+2 to hit 75 Spd with Hero pair up (the person wanted to pair her up with Inigo). Anathema's always welcome though. Everyone loves Anathema :D

  17. You can really only make a strategy for the entire map if you have intimate knowledge of the map. If you're doing a challenge run of sorts that requires you to have in depth knowledge of the game then yes that's when full map strategies are possible. By that point you know enemy spawns, enemy AI, enemy reinforcement locations, etc. But without prior knowledge of a map you are just playing it turn by turn until victory is achieved, so what exactly is the problem with planning out your strategy turn by turn?
