  1. The original game's title was Gaiden (外伝), meaning side story. In the Archanean continuity, which Valentia is a part of, the Fire Emblem is still on Archanean soil, as Gaiden (and SoV) takes place in-between FE1 and FE3.

There are quite a few FE games that have the Emblem and only mention it once or twice, so not having it at all isn't too bad, especially when you know the FE1 connections.

  2. Rereading the post, is it possible that the "next batch of information is still secret" line is a cheeky poke at people who saw the leaks, meaning that we didn't see spoilers for everything they had to show?

I'm willing to be that this means there will be characters in base game that you can't play as until later.

I hope you're right, but if DWG and Berserk are anything to go off of, we'll have tons of NPCs, and many of them could possibly be people's favorites.

I mean, even in the most recent DWG game, pilots like Fa Yuiry, the Black Tri-Stars, and Johnny Ridden were still NPCs (admittedly, DWG4 did make a handful of NPCs from the 1st game playable).

What do you guys think about this? I'm taking it as Anna is not going to be playable and will instead just be the voiceover for missions and other things.

I'm betting that this game will only have one Anna, and she would play a support role, like the Operators in DWG.

  4. I'm want to stay hopeful and say she'll start as some sort of support unit, whose main focus would be staves, doing little damage to enemies, but being able to heal allies when necessary. I think it'd be cool to have her on my team and set her AI to follow my fighter and shower me with constant heals. She could get axes or magic through class changing.

However, I feel like they'll go the "main weapon is axes, healing is a secondary ability" way, with magic being selectable later through her progression.

Everytime I try thinking about how certain characters will play, I get reminded that we know precious nothing about most of the game mechanics. Hopefully this week's video gives us a peek into how some of these things work. (Also potential Famitsu previews tomorrow? Hype!?)

then we haven't factored the original villains we'll be getting. I'm sure there will be some. We don't know how many either.

FE1 didn't have a lot of villains. Gharnef, Jiol, Michalis and Camus are really all that's noteworthy (with only Camus and Gharnef being realistic). Though, Gazzack is a meme boss who could get in as an early NPC enemy or something, and finally, Medeus being a Anankos level boss, who has a really good chance if giant bosses are included, but otherwise has no chance.

Doing a triple giant boss fight against Anankos, Grima and Medeus would be awesome as all heck. Finger's crossed.

We also have characters like Hardin Caeda or Camus who really do have things going for them or characters like Cain and Ogma who would go on the inspire future characters

I'd argue Ogma/Barst are what set up the Mercenary/Fighter relationships of future games (Raven/Bartre, Ike/Boyd, Chrom/Vaike), so there's that.

And like @The DanMan said, sometimes your attachment to a unit comes, not from their personality or plot importance, but rather what they do for you in the in-game moments, where personality isn't involved. A character could survive an onslaught of enemy units, caused by your accidental movement onto a space you didn't proof. That could be a defining moment for that character, and would earn that character a place in your heart.

Lacking a personality does not a bad character make, especially in Fire Emblem.

I also don't think Ogma quite needs Barst, its not like they have a lot of chats in their own world. If Ogma needs company then Ceada is more then enough. The two appear to have at least some sort of bond.

I know, I meant the opposite. Barst's chances are the lowest out of the three potential Axe Infantry units I said, unless Ogma gets in, then Barst's chances increase. Ogma could get in alone, but Barst would probably not. Ogma and Barst do share a bond of sorts, that of a commander and his subordinate, so I'm sure whatever small amount of conversation they've had could be fleshed out in FEW.

Keep in mind, I'm not trying to say Barst is a good choice, I'm saying he's a logical choice for what merits and relations his character has. I'd prefer Basilio or Vaike, personally, but I'm just trying to look from all angles.

mmm...well I don't think good stats and ''something'' is really enough to overlook a barely existing personality or role in the story, even when compared to other minor characters in the series. What could they possibly do with Barst in the game when he lacks those basic things. If its just to have an axe users then there are tons of better options available.

I don't see potential for an interesting moveset or role in the game for this character, only a spot being practically wasted.

Since being personable and expressive is a big deal for a character in a warriors game it would be unwise to ad a character that is neither of these things.

Well, good stats were all FE1 characters had to offer to get any sort of "popularity" in most cases. It's why you never hear mention of Mathis, Vyland, Tomas or Darros.

I'm also certain a moveset could be crafted for Barst that could be interesting enough to justify his addition. Have you seen the movesets that games like Warrior Orochi and the like have crafted for their characters? I'm certan that wouldn't be a problem, heck it might even make some players enjoy Barst!

Darros, Bord, Cord, Vaike and Arthur admittedly have the worst chances of all the Axe Fighters to get in. Barst, Charlotte and Basilio have the best chances, though Barst's chances are influenced by Ogma's appearance, as I don't think he'd get in without him.

Personally I would prefer Legion as an axe user, but I don't think that he's particularly likely.

I'd like Legion to get in too, but unfortunately New Mystery isn't where they're pulling from, just FE1.

When has Barst ever done or said something interesting?

He was the only reason I could deal with FE1. He was so good in that game, shame about axes not being in shops halfway through.

I also have friends who started with Shadow Dragon, and Barst is usually high on their "favorite character" list. It's odd, but he must have....something about him that attracts people to him. Heroes and his relation to Ogma certainly don't hinder him either.

People are incredibly bitter with this game before its even out and its irritating as someone who has been covering its content lol.

At least the people who are excited for the game seem to be legitimately hyped, myself included.

Your work thus far has been extremely appreciated, and I'm sure I speak for all the FEW fans when I say that!

Samurai Warriors debuted with 22 characters, so there'll be at least 23 playable characters.

To clarify, they said "most characters of any Warriors collaborative game". This only reduces it by a small amount (DW Gundam had 19 units in it's first instalment, so I believe it had the most, without dlc), but I doubt they would've made a point of noting that FEW has the most if they're only going over the cap by 1-2 characters.

I'm standing at it being 28-33 characters.

I wonder what they're gonna do with Azura though. They'd probably want her to wield her signature Blessed Lance, but none of her attack animations in Fates were applicable to lances lol.

Maybe they'll give her a sword to compliment her flowing dance attacks :^)

In all seriousness, Impa had a pretty unorthodox moveset with her Naginata in HW (if I remember correctly), so they could just give Azura a bunch of spins and flips with the lance, but the damage actually would come from the water-trails that follow her.

Side-note: I wonder why Lissa got to be on the Premium Box cover and Azura did not? How fishy.

  13. 4 minutes ago, SatsumaFSoysoy said:

Azura's style is a lot more unorthodox like Corrin's, so it's possible they'd add a second Lance infantry in. I'd rather that be Oboro, but I guess "for variety's sake!" we'll be getting Donnel instead. Mozu doesn't really know how to use a Lance, so I think she's kinda out.

It could very well be possible that they consider Knights as "Lance Infantry", in which case I'd imagine Azura and Draug would have those places on lockdown, with Effie/Oboro/Donny on the "maybe" list. If not, Donnel has a better chance than Oboro just becauae he wouldn't be the second Fates addition ('cuz Azura is a shoe-in).

Gods, I need consistent info ASAP. It's actually driving me bananas.

  14. 4 minutes ago, SatsumaFSoysoy said:

Now they think Donnel is a fan favourite that should be considered, when all he has to his name is pot memes.

Well, that and he's the only non-knight Lance Infantry in Awakening, a unit specification that was absent in SD. Even with Fates, there's only 4 other characters  that share that, Azura/Mozu/Oboro/Shiro.

I still think that's impressive, even if he's a bit overused these days, but the specification he has, along with his (albeit meme-y) popularity, could end up earning him a spot in FEW.

  15. I just thought about something (I've been doing that a lot, the lack of consistent info might be driving me insane).

The leaked premium box came from a Famitsu post on Twitter, during a week when no actual FEW info was present in Famitsu. Now, I'm not entirely certain on the way Famitsu does things, I've only started following their website/Twitter recently, but is it odd to release info during a week when their magazine didn't have info in it for that game on that particular week?

Could this mean the release of the premium box info itself was a mistake, not just the boxart being revealed? Maybe it was supposed to come out next week, along with an article on Robin/Lissa, but someone confused the release dates? This is mostly a pointless tidbit at this point, but it'd mean next week could potentially be the start of weekly or bi-weekly articles.

Guess we gotta just wait and see. I need something to occupy myself, because I'm overthinking stuff way too much nowadays.

  16. I saw this on /feg/ a couple days ago as well. Interesting stuff. I'm still hoping my recent post about "class changing" influencing weapon selection is confirmed wrong soon, as this was the interview that spawned my thoughts.

    FUCK Donnel.

The Donnel-hate is real. Sheesh, what's with people dunking on him lately?
