  1. As I said in my earlier post, if the NX is released in 2016, it would give the Wii U a four year lifespan. While that is short, it is certainly not unreasonable. The original Xbox had a similar lifespan (2001-2005). The Wii U was not a success, so it makes sense that Nintendo would want to move on. If the Wii U still had a decent life, they wouldn't have even mentioned the NX. Also consider the fact that the NX will be at E3 2016. No console has ever been shown at three consecutive E3s, which means that it'll have either a 2016 or 2017 release. Furthermore, look at the 2016 first-party releases for Nintendo. Currently, we only have two: SMTxFE (which is even 2015 for Japan) and Zelda. That's a shocking low number. Of course more will probably be announced, but a reasonable assumption can be made that this is sign that Nintendo is abandoning a sinking ship. "Selling well" is a relative term. Awakening selling 1.8 million is fantastic for a FE game, but isn't that impressive when looking at games in general. 5 million for Mario Kart 8 is really low when you consider that Mario Kart Wii sold over 36 million copies. Wii U selling 10 million is pitiful in comparison to other consoles. To put things in perspective, the Sega Dreamcast, which is considered to be a complete and utter failure of a console, sold 10 million in it's lifespan of less than three years.
  2. First of all, out this last E3 you can't say with confidence that Nintendo is putting effort into making any new game for Wii U, outside of Zelda, let alone putting effort into a Wii U FE. Reggie says that the NX will be shown at E3 next year, which means that at the very latest it will be released holiday 2017, but holiday 2016 is not unlikely. A 2016 release for the NX will give the Wii U a four year lifespan, which while short, is not unprecedented; the original Xbox only had a four year lifespan. Furthermore, stop trying to say that the Wii U is success because games like Mario Kart and Smash sold well. Those games didn't sell well. They sold well relative to the system that they are on. Mario Kart 8 has only sold about 5 million copies. That's fantastic for the Wii U; it's about a 50% attachment rate. However, it is still the worst selling Mario Kart game ever released. Also, how can you say with a straight face that FE is a system seller? Awakening, the best selling game, still only had a 3% attachment rate. If you want your arguments to be taken seriously, you can't ignore numbers. FE has sold consistently better on handhelds, so it is ludicrous to claim that a console game is now inevitable. And regarding the quality of handheld FEs vs consoles FEs: they are both hit and miss. Both have great games like FE7 and FE9, but both also have very poor and messy games like FE11 and FE10. Regarding a FE9/FE10 remaster or a FE4 remake: why would they do this? Efforts put towards these games would much better be spent on the next FE game or another game made by IS (they don't just do FE, remember). I'm not super against the idea of remakes, but new games are infinitely more interesting.
  3. FE9 definitely does the best job at making it's cast feel like real people rather than cartoon characters. Ashnard really stands out as a character who could have just been a generic villain, but instead they actually gave him a personality and motivations. Of course not every character is perfect, but even their one-dimensional characters like Kieran are at least entertaining.
  4. This is good. I'd much rather have an army of useful (and hopefully interesting) characters than an army of bench warmers. Having a lot of characters makes the game balance really messy, like in FE6 and FE10. Also, why can't people just be appreciative that we are getting two (and even a third) Fire Emblem games?
  5. I know that, but he was suggesting that it is different. He was saying that the RNs used to determine your stat gains are determined at the beginning of the game. This prevents you from resetting every time you get a bad level up.
  6. Can you go into more detail on that? So all of a character's level ups are decided when you start the game?
  7. Thanks for doing this! It's always good to know characters' average stats. The album can be found here: http://imgur.com/a/4VVPP/all Note that the Nohr siblings' stats are from chapter six, so they are lower than their actual base stats. And weapon bonuses are stat alterations from equiping certain weapons like katanas and naginatas. We know what the mods are and they are posted on the site. His average stats include the mods.
  8. Really? There's no reason to complain about character designs. They are completely subjective, have no bearing on gameplay/enjoyment, and no discussion will ever reach a meaningful conclusion. This is a fantasy game, remember? Quit whining. Remove [spoilers] from the title because there wasn't any. And remove the sexist rhetoric.
  9. For anyone playing Hoshido, how is Crimson? Based off of her class, bases, and growths, she seems like she would be amazing. On the surface, it seems like her only downsides are lack of support options (which Kamui can fill), and low-ish HP (but that let's her activate her personal skill more often).
  10. Of course character deaths add to the story, but you can't just throw death into a story to make it good. From the previous posts, it seems like there will points in the game where if you do certain actions you can prevent certain characters' deaths (If my assumption is wrong please correct me). Preventable deaths are hard to pull off because the player's natural response would be to save the character. Aerith's death in FFVII is tragic because there's nothing you can do about it. However, Shadow's death in FFVI is forgettable because you can save him, and most players choose to do so. Furthermore, it's hard for character's death to effect the story if the story can continue if the character is still alive. If Fates does have some of these optional deaths, of course I'm going to reset and see if I can do things differently to save that character. If that means looking things up and spoiling myself about the plot, then so be it. I'm pretty sure this is true. This is also my feelings on it. I'm reluctant of starting games on their lowest difficulty out of fear that it'll be too easy, so I'll probably start on Nohr hard/classic. If it turns out that it is legitimately too difficult (not just something different that'll take some getting used to), then I'll drop to normal. Revenant Knight seems awesome. Flying magic users are always cool. Puppeteer seems really interesting, and Great Knight and Basara get some pretty cool skills.
  11. I picked the characters that I want to use before I focused on specific pairs, so some pairs may not be the best, but oh well. These are the ones that I came up with: Nohr- Silas x F!Corrin Jakob x Camilla Arthur x Luna Zero x Elise Leo x Azura Xander x Nyx Hoshido- M!Corrin x Crimson Silas x Hinoka Azura x Sakura (A+ support) Tsukuyomi x Hana Takumi x Kagerou Ryoma x Oboro Question: If I do Azura and Sakura's A+ support, will I still get Shigure?
  12. These last couple of batches have been great! I'm also in the CorrinxSilas ship. Eh, maybe. It's true that they don't know for sure, but it seems like it is going to be Corrin. The IGN stream of it had a female avatar that was also named Corrin.
  13. Regarding same-sex pairings, yeah there should be more options than just the sociopaths, but if that's how it is in the JPN version, then that's how it should be in the western versions. I'm not a fan of gameplay/mechanic changes between different regions of the game. Regarding the S-rank skinship lines, these will probably be toned down to some extent, but lets not act like these are anything shocking or overly vulgar. They aren't nearly as lewd as people are hyping them up to be. And the chances of this game being rated M because these is absolutely zero.
  14. When you promote to a second class, you learn each skill that you missed every time you level up. For example, if you class change Odin from a level one sorcerer to a trueblade, he would learn Flowing Strike the next time he levels up and Vantage the level after (both are samurai skills). He would also learn the trueblade skills at the levels that he normally would learn them.
  15. There is literally nothing to be afraid about. Of course video games media are going to be talking about same-sex marriages. It's the new story. I don't understand how people will upset about death in Fire Emblem. That's part of the point of the series. Also, the talk about censoring has been waaaaay overblown. The content is relatively tame, and people are just blowing it up to bigger than it's actually is. There's no chance that the game will be rated M. Furthermore, it's impossible to assess how well the dual release is going to go. The fact that after you buy one you are able to buy a whole other game and a third!) for half price will probably be enticing for a lot of people. Quit whining.
  16. Oh yeah, this is exactly like the Feymarch! Okay, I like this now. Can I change Kanna's name to Rydia?
  17. This implementation isn't as horrible as it is hilarious. But seriously, what were you all expecting? You all would've complained if they did the time travel from Awakening again. There is no good way to implement a second generation outside of an FE4 time skip, but that doesn't fit with Fates' narrative. You all are complaining for the sake of complaining.
  18. Exactly. (though you do get Kaze on the Nohr path too) Besides, when you play the download version of the game you don't make the decision on which path to take until chapter six, so they couldn't lock you out even if they wanted to.
  19. Do Great Knights really have only six move again? I liked how they were actually mobile in Awakening. Man, this is the worst news I've received all day.
  20. The villager was able to promote into a class with lances, swords, and axes (so I'm guessing weapon master) or a class with lances and bows (so I'm guessing great merchant).
  21. No. You get both regardless of your avatar's gender. You just get the opposite gendered one sooner .
  22. Zoffy hands down. She's adorable, and being a cavalier makes her cool too. I get the same feeling too! I might have to do F!CorrinxSilas on my first playthrough.
  23. It is fantastic that these are included, and it is a great step in the right direction. However, it is kinda weird that the two available candidates are a guy who enjoys watching others suffer and a Tharja clone (which speaks for itself). It would've been really cool if they included more options (of course it would be silly if every unit was a candidate), but this is amazing nonetheless.
  24. I don't know why people think there isn't going to be a special edition. The release of two versions does not preclude the release of a special edition. This is also how I feel about it. People should just be happy that we are getting two (and eventually a third) FE games. And we'll likely get the second (and the third) for a reduced price. Sweet. I see no reason to be upset.
