  1. The DanMan

    Hi...

Programming? As 4starword said, you may find the romhacks section interesting. Welcome to the forums! (And no. That's not wordy. My intro was much wordier and superfluous.)
  2. I've been trying to get the quarter circles down, with mixed results. The thing is, at first I was trying to quickly do a 90-degree rotation of the circle pad, with mixed results. I then decided to try the much more simplistic, rigid way of inputting the directions individually. And voila! Success, at least as far as the Hadouken and hurricane kick; having trouble doing the Shoryuken, and I can't for the life of me find out in-game how to do the EX Hadouken. I'd say the collarbone breaker will probably end up nerfed; doing a chunk of shield damage is one thing, but one-shotting shields seems like way too much, and something that won't stay unchanged once people start getting really good with him and FG results roll in. Also, I've find that if you quickly input dash and return the circle pad to a neutral position, Ryu does a... well... classic videogame dash where he quickly slides forward. I haven't even tested most of his combos yet. Anyway, Ryu, in the right hands, is going to be a freaking dragon. *Shows himself the door* Roy feels pretty good. His sweetspots are less powerful, sure, but they're much easier to hit; if you have a pretty much guaranteed chance of KOing someone at 95% with a side smash, it doesn't give much reason to go for the 55% damage kill with Marth's side-smash sweetspot (unless you're amazing with Marth). Yeah, his recovery isn't the greatest, but he has a decent air game, and the fact that his sweetspots (basers?) can be gotten consistently makes it seem like the average player would be dealing more damage over time with Roy than if the same player used Marth. All in all, I think I may have found my new main. And Lucas may doesn't feel bad as well; he surprised me. He's got multiple projectiles, an easy way to shut enemy projectiles down, and reasonably powerful aerials. But then we get to the issue of his recovery, which anybody if they're close enough can just throw themselves in the way off and guarantee a KO. Anyways, apologies for the wall of text; just giving my overall thoughts and impressions so far.
  3. I wonder about the 3DS version; Hyrule Castle's definitely on the larger side. I wouldn't mind if it got, say, Sector Z instead.
  4. Were you autocorrekt? First impressions. People thought that Ike was high tier in Brawl at first; he slowly fell to mid. Olimar was mid tier, but eventually carved out a space at the top.
  5. I'm not a competitive Smash Bros. player; however, I maintain a passing following of it. What I said was the game wasn't designed around combos; I know combos are a thing in Smash Bros., but they are by no means put there on purpose or meant to be a focus of the game; the competitive community just finds them out and uses them. Sakurai himself even said the main idea behind Smash Bros. was to make a type of casual fighting game without a focus on combos. And besides, SSB4 characters are in general pretty limited when it comes to combos. So, I'll re-word it: In a game with limited combos, a character like Ryu, who is designed and promoted with combos in mind, comes off as very powerful, high-to-top tier character.
  6. Roy looks hopefully mid tier, so then he'll be the best Fire Emblem character (though Robin could be debated to be mid tier; it's that he takes alot of work to get fully acquainted with him. It doesn't help his biggest weakness is fast rush-down characters, who are SSB4's top tier). I'm going with the crowd and saying Lucas will be above average. If Ryu is what he's promoted as being, then he is probably going to be very high, if not top tier.
  7. Yes, they did. However, those were just off of trailers. It's not like with Ryu, who was designed and being promoted as having combos; Smash Bros. was designed around not having combos. It's like bringing a machine gun to a paintball fight.
  8. Initial impressions from the footage. I'll download it shortly.
  9. Okay. I have one thing to say about Ryu: banned. Seriously. "Let's not give him a move that does shield damage, let's make it an insta-shield breaker!" "Let's give him a crapton of moves, because screw each character having limited options!" "Let's make him combo-oriented, because Smash Bros is not designed around combos and he can wreck everyone else!" Really, everything I saw made it seem like that Ryu, with a bit of practice, can become extremely broken. Excuse me, but pay-to-win much? And really, what right do Virtua Fighter and Tekken have to be in Smash Bros.? Namco already made a blatant Soul Caliber shout-out with Final Destination's new design. And when was the last time Virtua Fighter was even relevant?
  10. Yet at the same time, making a character effectively more powerful than alot of others just seems strange. Also,... have you seen Sakurai? He recently joked that he cut Ice Climbers to tick off Melee fans, and even more recently said that the competitive fanbase should just pack up and move to other fighting games. While "burning passion" is a bit of an exaggeration, he's far from embracing them with open arms, or even offering much respect for them.
  11. I'm not getting the best vibes from Ryu (look at my most recent post in the 6/13 leak thread for why). Anywhere, trying to take this back on topic again, I wonder when the Roy amiibo will be released, since we haven't heard anything about Mewtwo. Do you think they'd have just a whole wave dedicated to Smash DLC characters?
  12. Okay... here's what I don't get about Ryu. We all know Sakurai hates competitive Smash Bros. with a burning passion,... yet he adds a character with a bunch of advanced inputs that increase the effectiveness of his moves. What happened to him not wanting a bunch of skill barriers that would "turn people away from the game"? ...Unless Ryu is deliberately really powerful and won't be nerfed, as an "F.U" to the community. I really don't like what they've done, in case you haven't inferred that by now.
  13. Explanation (as in, more in depth)? I glossed over the stream and just saw the fireball alongside shoryuken. Also, YEEEESSS! Roy's good.
  14. ...What... I have no words ... no words... I'm with Rabbatack on this; I thought that was just part of double-edged blade.
  15. So, to try and take the conversation back on topic... I've been wondering about this as soon as the leak. I'd expect if to get an update when the Roy amiibo comes out. Hopefully we hear news about the 3DS amiibo adapter soon. What I would give for THAT to leak instead of two characters...
  16. Well, darn it. Looks like Roy has the exact same specials. I'm going out on a limb here and hoping he's as different from Marth as Wolf is from Fox. ...Also, seems like it's official that DLC characters won't get custom moves. And surprise, surprise, Dream Land 64 is returning (from the original sound file leak, almost definitely in both versions). And that's its exact name: Dream Land 64. I'm hoping for a season pass or something.
  17. Speaking of Amiibo,... does this mean Roy confirmed for FEif?
  18. Nintendo. NINTENDO! Why are you letting everything leak? Aside from that, liking how Roy's a mix of his original and badass Awakening DLC design. Just hope he isn't an inferior Marth clone.
  19. This may or may not have been brought up but apparently, running off of Kirokan's translations, when a unit becomes a promoted class they gain a class skill. Direct quote: "When an unpromoted unit class changes to a promoted class, they will be able to gain a "class skill"." So, it would seem you can earn five skills without re-classing, and simply re-classing into a promoted unit may net you that promotion's class skill.
  20. The problem is, 90% of Awakening's localization was good. As a result, the 10% that wasn't sticks out all the more.
  21. I just noticed this: in the scene where Leon summons... magical trees?... Suzukaze and Rinka are the ones who get knocked away. And here's the thing: Suzukaze appears to have Kamui restrained at the start of that clip. Makes me think that's what happening in the first of this image duo.
