Would Caeda, the Ultimate Marth fangirl, and no beard Jaigen work as well?

Yeah I'm really bad at names, sorry.

Yep.  Whatever works for you.  It's not really about making the jokes work either.  Finding some way to make each character memorable is a special case in shadow dragon, because most of the characters you meet that are not story important are just portraits with growths.  But it is important to remember: sometimes, the greatest experience you can have is with a friend.  ....

    ...

I dunno where I was going with that, sorry.

  2. Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon has the reputation of being the worst FE game in the series.  While I love this game to death, I am not so selfish to deny its overwhelming flaws.  The animations, while quick and fluid, were bland and lacked style of the earlier games like Geneology of the Holy war or the GBA games.  The Support System was almost shafted and replaced with automatic supports and simple character specific conversations.  A complete turn around of Permadeath, and requiring tons of units be dead to receive very easy gaiden chapters with poor units as rewards.

     However.

There are many good things that shadow dragon did as well, that many people praise the newer games like Fates and Awakening for doing: static Enemy range, button command animation (pressing the L button or trigger to turn off that specific animation), skipping enemy turns, Items returning to the convoy when an enemy dies, etc.  The story was not fantastic, but the world building, dialogue, and character development (mostly Marth) were quite entertaining.  I still remember trying to unlock every single alternate dialogue in the game.  Being able to forge effective weapons and unique weapons to give the player a sense of craftsmanship that was not possible in radiant dawn or path of radiance. (Still wish the colors would have come back) And most of all, Reclassing was put in to give replay-ability and new life in characters who were, in their normal classes, often difficult or even somewhat unappealing to use.

Whether you debate me on that last one or any of those other points, I still believe Shadow dragon is not the Sh*t storm it is claimed to be, despite its poor sales and game implementations.  It's obvious I am biased towards the game, and I believe that many of the newer games learned a ton from the implementations from shadow dragon, for better or for worse.  I'm glad it was made the way it was, and I hope that players can see that it's not just a stick in the mud.

So.  What did you like about Shadow Dragon? Why?

  3. Here's a drive to beat FE 11.  Do what I do:  Give a meme or inside joke to every character you can.  That inside joke gives the character enough leverage to try, and as such, makes you want to progress so that such characters can get stronger.  After all, that's how I managed to use Dorcas in FE 7.

    Examples:

Etzel del Pretzel  - Roshea the Critical Grape Vine - Julian is the best theif ever and must be used every time and maxed out by the end of every playthrough unless Lena says no  -  Macellen, the ULTIMATE Replacement.  Cain and Abel, the Bible Bros (They are so boned)

  4. I am literally the only Person ever to ship Lyre and Edward From Radiant Dawn.  Maybe because I wrote a 2 page Fan fiction about them together before chapter 4-3 in the desert. I know that them ending up together seems really odd, given their character traits and personalities are total opposites. But that's what makes it an interesting pair.  There's also the branded thing to consider.... Lyre might not be a laguz anymore.  It might be better that way.

Remember the Caladbulge.  Gives +9 luck and +10 swag points for mah boi Eddy

  5. So, you are in a fist fight with the lord(s) of the last Fire emblem game you played.   (By this I mean if you stopped playing sacred stones 20 minutes ago, it'd be both lords from sacred stones)

Anyway, I got this topic idea from a Question of the day that a "Zerkmonsterhunter 4" on YT had put in the comment section.  So, I pass it on to the lovely members of Serenes Forest.

I prefer the format to be: Lord or lords you fight, then what you do.  Be sure to add what FE game you played last.

EX:  Alm - I beg for him to not kill me, because of his savage nature.  He's not giving up any time soon.

Celica - I don't hit her.  PERIOD.  Otherwise Alm will kill me.

You know why Sigurd sent his son in Heroes ? Because he had a barbecue planned.

    All right, I'm leaving

Come back!  Well, that's the act of the night, folks.

    In any case....

Arvis: Sigurd, do you want some barbecue sauce with your chicken leg?

Sigurd: Sure.  Thanks, Arvis.  Say, I heard you had found a wife not too long ago--

Arvis: *pours barbecue sauce on Sigurd*

Sigurd:  Hey!  Why are you putting that stuff on me!?

Arvis:  *Smirks*  Because you needed to cool down.

Sigurd: What?  I don't think it's that hot out.

    Arvis: Not yet. :Arvis:

  7. So, I didn't know whether or not to post this in Forum Games or General FE, so I went with General FE, because this isn't really a game. Just a silly thread.  A silly little thread where you post puns about fire emblem characters, events, etc. They can be bad or good; new or old.

I don't know if there was a different thread made for this purpose, but I don't see it anywhere up front.  Anyway, no more stalling!  Post your puns below!  I'd rather not see repeats unless you are commenting on it or have something to add.

Here's mine: If Arvis were a pirate, would that make Sigurd's last fight of FE 4 the Battle of Yarr-hara?

    Spoiler

    Have mercy, my friends.

  8. In my opinion, donnel is worthless.  You waste so much experience by leveling him that could be put into other units.  "but Donnel has great growths"  Everyone has great growths in awakening, and the only thing you need donnel for is his skills to be passed down.  A good trainee (or viliger) starts at the beginning, when they are not holding everyone back, and take lesss rescources to level and become good.  Like How gaiden did it or with ross.  Sorry... I just felt like putting that out there.   I chose Kliff because he's badass.

  9. Draco-lord?  Seems overpowered...  I mean, just look at how amazing all the other Draco's are!  Harr (FE 10), Minerva (FE 12), Altena, Melady, the list goes on!  What I'd like to see, like what I've stated on 2 other topics [and in the video below my post] is a bow lord.  Who is also a criminal.  Like, a swift archer type with a record that needs a little scrub-a-dub-dub.  Why bows?  Why not?  Just make him/her have a good personal struggle to even out the grey morality, slap a bow on him/her and boom!  Archer lord from the start.  It's classic fire emblem lord-ship, with a twist.

Here's the video.  WARNING.  CRINGE-WORTHY COMMENTARY.  Proceed at your own risk

Well, I whole-heartedly agree with you. I feel characters should reflect on who they are. Its why I don't reclass in games like Awakening and SD. It takes away the uniqueness of the character. And I'm not saying everyone needs to be broken. Just I don't want characters to have 20% and 30% across the board. If you couldn't tell from my profile picture, I love Ests. And training up units and watching go from a poor villager, to a seasoned fighter if the most satisfying part of Fire Emblem for me. Getting 1 or no stat ups just isn't fun and seeing the outcome of a unit with stats in the 10's is soo disappointing. I am all for growths representing the character I just hope they are still relatively high and give classes higher caps. (One of the reasons I don't like Thracia is because all the caps are 20 which just about everyone can reach. I also don't like SD cause everyone who isn't Tiki, Caeda, or Marth has really low growths.)

Well, what about cain or wolf, or Sedgar or Catria or....   There are plenty of characters in SD that have good growths, and many characters don't need them to be useful.  As for reclassing, I feel that as long as they don't have that much character to begin with, it's fine to reclass them into whatever you want.  One of the things I hope echoes doesn't bring back is reclassing, because having reclassing AND branched promotions in the same game can ruin the point of unit variety.

I hope Magic doesn't have set hit rates like in the original, and it looks like it won't.

I really hope they don't keep low growths in this game like SD did. Make the growths more like New Mystery/Awakening/Fates, etc.

Also, hoping for unique palettes and bosses.

I beg to differ on that one. (Prepare for a long post)  See, I'm a firm believer in growth-rates being an accurate representation of the character they belong to.  For example, in the original gaiden, robin was horrible.  His growths were bad, but he made up for it by taking the bases of the classes he went in to, like the dread fighter.  But villager robin was poor because he was supposed to represent someone poor.  You think that a viliger with little to no combat experience would be amazing, destroying hundreds of armies at a time?  No.  Because that's not who robin is or who he's supposed to represent.  Same with Ralph in FE 5.  He's a common viliger joining the war because he's fighting for his homeland.  Nothing more, nor less.  Maria from FE's 1, 3, 11, etc, is a little girl.  Yes, a princess, but a little girl through and through.  Is she supposed to be a driver of the res bus, or a god upon promotion?  No.  She's a little girl, and her growths reflect that.  Ralph's growths reflect the common soldier.  And Robin's growths reflect the poor villager boy he is, with the determination to set out on an adventurous quest to defeat dozer and many other occupational forces through the harsh teachings of war.  I like high growths as much as the next person, but when every character becomes OP, it gives little reason to use one person over another, and it may also take away what that character represents.

Look through the English screenshots on page 3 (I believe). Celica casts a Fire spell that costs 1 hp. Since she can perform a follow-up attack on the monster, she loses 2 HP from casting 2 Fire Spells.

Thanks.  I just had to check the European site.  My god, though.  60 avoid!?  That's more than a Thracian throne! Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the graves in the original 40 avoid?

  13. I'd like one of the following:

1 - Bow lord - Like, they start out with bows.

2 - Jackass - A lord that is cocky, snappy, and a bit of an asshole. Basically another shinon, but a lord with progressive character traits.

3 - A criminal - This one is the outlier for the Idea.  Now, think about this:  He/She is not a lord - but someone sentenced to death for a treasonous act or horrible crime committed, and he or she is sentenced to death. However, due to some "partners" who have the will and strength to help, this criminal escapes execution, and somehow gets tied into a war. Thus growing and redeeming himself/herself in the process.  (Standard FE plot of bigger and darker things going on behind the scene, maybe a new perspective on the Fire Emblem itself, etc.)  This protagonist formula brings back grey morality in a light that is quite rare for fire emblem games.  Sure, we've had bad people be playable characters in the past, or be side characters, but protagonists?  That's something I'd like to see.

EDIT: If we get all three in one, I don't care how everything else is.  It's like an actual unique character

  14. I'd like a lord who's a bit cocky and somewhat of an ass.  Someone who's got some wit to them, but still tries to fight for the best.  For some reason, a laguz type design comes to mind, with a lance or bow.  Blonde hair, too.  No Blue haired lords.  Please, IS.  Do I dream too much, or am I the only one who would like to see lord character on his/her way to be executed?

  15. This was tough.  But Even though her character is disgusting to me, Camilla's usability as a unit is probably the most useful.  I mean, she was designed to be used.  Good growths, starting bases, she can fly, use magic, wail on people with her axes, and overall a very good combat unit.  Again, though - Is Marisa not a purple haired unit?
