I didn't say localizers nor did i say i've seen them do shit (aside from the faulty end producs we tend to get lol, and how they interact with others and their holier than thou attitude) I've said that what localizers do i learned is a big no-no and you never should do, but that i also did work on a completely different field hence not everything applying - although how some stuff still carries over across fields. But i did learn about the difference between languages, and the nuances etc. - and that when translating, you've to be as faithful as possible, while taking in contextual language and culture (so that it would make sense in the other language) - and not inserting personal biases (as much as possible) or personal views into it. I am not gonna say what field it is - But i will say again it is quite a different field.

Tfw Reddit wants me to trade stocks on what exactly? Localizers directly attacking & shaming the fans, answering honest questions by calling them names, being proud of pissing off fans - and more. If i even did 10% of what they did in my job i would be on welfare my whole life.

Yeah how about no. Quite a few of them do actually speak the language, are japanese themselves and/or have contacts with jp peeps (or jp speaking peeps). Also in close contacts with fan translators that do actually provide contexts on why something was translated like that and teach us about language use or cultural context as well. There's a difference between being faithful and changing the whole thing. And as IO pointed out not everyone approves, and it's not rare for localizers to go behind the author's back, either, or for bad translations to happen and to only be corrected after western fan outrage reaches JP side. See Ys 8, or the BL manga i talked about a while ago. And that's just the tip of the iceberg Translation problems and inaccuracies are not limited to translations to English. And my preference to OG language is not limited to jp either - i am like that with every language. And a good localization will cover that and change appropriately A bad one will deliver a completely different meaning. as pointed out - cherry picking. ---- While only slightly related - and not quite relevant since it was in a completely different (and much more serious) field - i worked with translators before (no, not jp) - and what's happening and excused in the localization scene is of the things i learned are big no-nos - and would lead to anyone losing their job and to be blacklisted honestly. Again - different field - so not everything applies - but dear god the whitewashing that's happening in the localization field is honestly quite annoying.

I don't hold modern Trails to the standards of wether a story is good or not. Time running out - sidequested too much xD Was also playing on expert. Not yet - i got fire sorcerer dude, Yahne and Hammer dude amongst others Yh i noticed Right now i am most curious about Gammel questline - will see where that leads Will see - but honestly if the gameplay evolves in the way i am expecting it to evolve (going by how it evolved in the demo itself), i wouldn't care much about the story. It's like a mix of SRPG and the RTS games i used to play pre-2012 (before the genre died), so i am optimistic and excited about the whole game 😄 Will say tho - the game would play much better on PC - RTS games are much better play with KBM

Anyway finished UO demo Gameplay seems dun - even if i can see it geing a bit too micro- and macromanagy later. Squad building & tactics prio are cool Story...Fire Emblem lmao

The fumbling at the finale leaves a bad after taste in the end - I've seen worse fumblings, but leaving me scratching my head at the end and not having a proper final dungeon is eh... Then again, unlike many others, i do love me a GIANT final dungeon, and i tend to celebrate them (except Tales of Arise's one, that one sucked major ass) Thanks 🙂 Dw depresso Shrimpo still exists hah! Not many ever cracked he 9/10 barrier for me - usually those who do are my favs. But ~8 is still a pretty good score from me. I tend to be pretty stricht with my ratings XD
