  1. Oh man I don't want to overhype it, but is is on my very short list of greatest video games of all time. IMO the greatest turn based strategy RPG of all time as well. It made such an incredible impression on me, to the point only a few games have matched.
  2. I would also say Arvis, so I agree completely. There is also his tremendously tragic back story, his favoring of Azel despite not being a full blood brother, and the pain and misery he must have had before his eventual fall. I mean Arvis is everything you want in a villain.
  3. Joker is not just for being a force that draws interesting response out of Batman, but also what that force in general entails. Chaos, it equals unpredictability. His actions, methods, what he will do or even say next are difficult to predict. This is a big reason, besides his relationship to Batman, that he has so outshone the other villains many of which have deeper back stories and more development. It is also why it is not comparable to Surtr. Yes Surtr is a force, but a very predictable one atm. Conquer everything, rule the universe, torture people for fun. Now I am in agreement than villains don't need to be sympathetic necessarily, particularly the they were sweet innocents before but now evil, however they need to be interesting in some way. That could be strange quirks/habits, being a certain way with an almost hypocritical exception, having a might is right philosophy but going in detail as to the reasoning perhaps supporting that if humans were like animals where the strongest and fittest survive there would be less disease and more general happiness.
  4. I beg to differ on Catria's weapon. With chill res in her B slot, at over 50% health she will be able to inflict Atk/Def-5 and Res-7 at the start of every turn. That is pretty insane and screams BFF with Gunnthra. In addition to chill res we get the debut of def smoke, spd/res bond, swift stance, and wa do dagger and axe with this banner. First axe cavalry since Titania, and the first dagger flier ever. As I said earlier, long gone are seasonals one can skip. Weather bunny lover or no, from a gameplay perspective this banner is a goldmine like all the seasonals from Performing Arts onwards. We don't know stats yet, but likely one if not more is going to be a top tier monster. Anyways Palla is my favorite Whitewing as well, though I don't mind Catria. Catria is more socially withdrawn and a quiet introvert, which is interesting makes her a little harder to read. I am surprised and thrilled that we are getting her on this banner. Archanea finally getting some seasonal support. Kagero hoshido is cool, and what is the most thrilling is Alfonse and Sharena getting seasonal variants. Particularly since both of them are considered pretty weak atm, so hopefully their seasonal versions are strong for those that love the Askr siblings. Also very reassuring is Love abounds wasn't a strange aberration, this year isn't going to be seasonals dominated by only fates/awakening. We are going to get representation from other games, thank goodness. All that being said, I will do one full pull from the redeem free one, and then wait. This banner goes a month. Within that time we will see the new legendary hero on this month's legendary banner, perhaps a colorless dragon, which will be must pull (unless they go the alt route). Then Thracia, which is my #1 priority, I have to have all 3 characters on that banner. After all if there are orbs to spare I will likely spend them on this very strong seasonal banner.
  5. but we all got a free L!Ike. Once that FEH channel came announcing there would be a vote, as well as saying L!Ike was the next legendary hero it was a notice to myself and many that there is no need to pull for him on the banner unless you are going for merges.
  6. Yeah we hear through Xander that Garon was once handsome, strong and a great king. However this pre puppet Garon isn't explored much. Lyon is one of the most brilliantly written characters and really executes the concept well makes the player really feel for him. I'm hoping Surtr gets developed well, yes right now he is one of those boring cartoonish villains with no redeeming qualities. Burn innocent villagers, torture individuals before killing them, turns on his allies, arrogant, would likely kill his daughters if they fail, etc. Perhaps Surtr asked the Queen of Nifl for help, a type of resource that could possibly save his wife who was suffering from some terrible chronic illness. The Queen coldly refused, and his wife suffered and suffered before death. It is an illness that has killed many Muspell perhaps something akin to Bubonic plague. This kills his soul and he falls into deep despair, isolating himself from everyone. This is when Loki enters the picture and persuades him to use the flames.
  7. I'm hoping we get that trailer tonight, since they released the silhouettes early. Also I like the idea of Sharena being featured. She has kind of been forgotten since Fjorm got released.
  8. Yeah Thracia 776, Genealogy of Holy War, and Radiant Dawn stand out as the most ambitious games in the series. They really tried to do a ton with these games, push the limits in scope and innovation as well. I really like them to return to that, in addition since Heroes pulled like 300 million in its first year, I think money won't be an issue. The designers could go as big as they want and won't be rushed. Imagine if they had the freedom that the team behind Zelda Breath of the Wild had?
  9. A new hero will make an appearance, that is very exciting. Could it be Panne, the absolute perfect fit for a Spring Easter bunny banner? Considering there are actual Bunny people in the main series, it seems like a Spring banner would be the perfect time for their debut. It could also be the famed colorless dragon everyone is expecting for the legendary banner. I personally want them to draw from the other main games, not Awakening/Fates, however if they get either Panne or Yarne in there I would be excited. I am surprised these silhouettes haven't been figured out yet, I guess they learned about people figuring out the previous ones right away and made the poses and such so that it would be near impossible to tell. One thing about seasonal banners. When the first spring banner came, Spring Camilla was our first flying mage and was good, but at that time if you don't care for seasonal stuff it was a pretty easy skip. The next few banners, bridal, summer ones, would have a draw unit (like spring camilla was) but you could skip if you wanted. Then came Performing Arts banner with 4 incredible units. Then the Halloween banner with 4 incredible units. Anyways a trend started that the seasonal banner contained some of the most powerful units in the game in addition to usually debuting new exclusive skills or unit types. Now even if you don't care for or even dislike seasonal stuff you can't skip. The units are too powerful, too unique. I hope everyone has saved some orbs. With this seasonal banner probably full of powerhouse must have units, the legendary banner which may have the first colorless banner, and then the long awaited Thracia banner there is going to be a lot to pull for.
  10. I'm all for Game of Thrones light. Complex relationships, motivations, politics, lots of surprises, great world building and lore, heroes don't always win, and stuff being on a grand epic scale while still being able to focus acutely on the many characters within this world.
  11. Don't forget is masterful work on Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. Yeah Yasunori Mitsuda is in that top tier of game composers and his style seems like it would be a great fit for Fire Emblem.
  12. The first colorless dragon introduced into the game, that is a huge deal. So I really really hope they make it a powerful dragon of myth and legend like Mila or Naga, rather than an alt of an existing character. I personally really dislike the alt trend they got going these last few months, both in legendary banners and the 'new heroes' banners. I'll probably be turned off enough if it is an alt that I won't even try to pull for the colorless dragon. Even though manaketes are my fav.
  13. Surtr is Garon. He has no personality or motivation other than destruction, conquering and torture cause he isn't in control of his own faculties. Once you give yourself to the flames you lose yourself, as was discussed by the Muspell sisters.
  14. Wow seemingly everything has been covered. Besides the history and all that, I agree with the camp saying M Morgan is most likely to drop. F Morgan is the first flying mage in the regular pool, and thus is extremely special and unique. Meanwhile even if M Morgan is a great red mage, there are many infantry mages already in the game. I do hope they get back to dropping at least one unit to 4 star. I guess we'll know soon.
  15. Thanks for the response! With flier buffs she will sit at 56atk/43 speed if +spd and not -atk, so it should be able to fairly reliably proc however this does restrict her to a flier team or at least until speed tactic is released. I have Tana built as my serious flying lance unit. Cordelia I want to focus on Galeforce. With LnD3 and HB3 seal you can get Galeforce on the 2nd combat, but not the first. However you can get more kills cause you get the ridiculous 61atk/48 speed with flier buffs.
  16. May I politely disagree? Firstly let me address new legendary heroes on these banners. I very much prefer either original story characters from Heroes or characters of myth and legend from the main games that were unplayable there than simply getting another version of an existing character. I was beyond excited for Fjorm and Gunnthra, and you can see with their gameplay design that so much went into it. Fjorm introduced the bond skill and is the only character that turns a defensive special into an offensive one thanks to Ice mirror. Gunnthra introduced the chilling skills, and also functions as a reverse blademage stacking damage based on debuffs rather than buffs. This is much more interesting than Vanguard Ike who was a slightly beefier Ike with a 4CD Aether, or even Legendary Ephraim. This is in addition to the game seems to have been dishing out way more alts than new characters since the game came out, and it is disappointing for the only new hero on the once a month legendary banner to also be one as well. As for story, I think Book 2 overall improves a lot from Book 1 and will likely be far superior once it finishes. Book 1 had a lot of new heroes bound by contract, free them, Sharena wanting to befriend everyone, and Anna wanting to profit off seasonal characters and that was the majority of the story. The interesting stuff which was scarce and mostly came later was Bruno/Zachariah the curse, Veronica being a puppet, and Xander relating to and supporting her even without contract cause her being so lonely and isolated reminds him of Corrin. Book 2 is off to a much stronger start. The friction between cartoonish evil Surtr and Veronica who is cursed to want to kill Askr but doesn't want to slaughter innocents. Loki manipulating everyone. Surtr's pure evil and love of war and torture likely due to losing himself to the flames and his true self nowhere to be found. As for the Muspell sisters and their popularity, well looks is a big deal likely. However the younger sister is like blank, a drone, just following her father's orders. Seemingly devoid of emotion, why? The older sister is a common archetype but this Camus/doting older sister offers many interesting possibilities for the future.
  17. For +spd Cordelia, and trying to do a Galeforce Firesweep lance+ build, is it better to go LnD3 with Heavy blade 3 seal which means you can't get turn 2 galeforce but you will do much more damage and also more reliably proc Heavy blade. Or is it better to go Heavy blade 3 in A skill slot, and then Quickened pulse seal?
  18. Wanted to thank you so much for getting to enjoy this game, something I didn't think I would ever be able to do. Thanks!
  19. Hey one of the main reasons I joined was to thank some of the fan translations I have been playing through including this one. I had played through FE4 a few times with the old original patch, however this new one is awesome and much more comprehensive. I am thoroughly enjoying going through my favorite game of the series with this new complete translation.
  20. Thanks everyone for the kindly greetings! I think maybe the battle animations? They really blew me away, the armor with the chain attached to weapons, the crazy multiple hologram crit of swordmasters or Lyn, the Lethality of Jaffar.
  21. No avatar character. I think this always seems awkward and forced, particularly if playable. It distracts from the story and world and other characters greatly. Agree no more designs like Nowi. I think the sexualization of pre pubescent children is just really offputting. I'd also go lighter on incest themes, which seem to happen a lot in the series. No children, unless the game is built around them such as Genealogy of the Holy War. No petting scenes, and while fan service has always been a part of the series I would prefer it to be more subtle. I think Echoes is a great example. Serious storyline, sure some characters are very attractive but nothing seems to be pushed on the player and distracting from the story and world.
  22. I agree that the villains should be shades of gray, it makes them more interesting. However I also think the heroes should also be flawed, even the main character. I am hoping we get a bit of a different time period, perhaps slightly more modern, or perhaps going further into the past. I hope the main protagonist is a manakete. Perhaps manaketes are low in number and they have all been rounded up, their stones taken, forced to work in harsh slave labor camps. The main protagonist taken there as a young child along with his parents, doesn't know anything of the outside world, everything he knows comes from inside this brutal environment. Some of the older people talk of times when dragons flourished but it all seems like a myth. His parents die of exhaustion and overwork, and perhaps some other loved much younger character who looks up to him/her is brutalized or dies as well. He in a rage transforms into a dragon, despite having no stone, and kills all the humans in the camp. He escapes with the survivors, set on war with the entire human race. However along the way he finds out not all humans are like that. He grows, learns, makes mistakes. I would like some very mature themes and a bigger focus on the consequences of war on the non participants. I'd like it to be very serious, dark, with hope for the future but far from a tidy happy ending.
  23. Long time admirer of this resource, which is easily the best on the web. I thought it would only be polite and proper to introduce myself before I start posting on various threads and such. The Blazing Sword, FE7, the first game released outside of Japan was my introduction to the series. My mind was blown. The support system giving every individual in your army depth of character, so well done in these all felt like precious individuals who I felt for. The story telling, multiple routes. The gameplay though, the large scale of war with the enormous armies you faced as well as all those units you are able to take into battle. The triangle system, the importance of positioning and using the terrain. Anyways I can go on forever, but that game started a life long love affair with the series. I have played every game in the series. My favorite character, in my avatar, is Lewyn. My favorite unit type is manakete, you can bet if there is a manakete unit in the game, he or she will be used regardless of how good or bad he/she is. My favorite game is Genealogy of the Holy War. Just lurking and checking out the forums I see so many passionate people and it is great to see, as I am very much as well and look forward to sharing and communicating with all of you on the many topics that come up concerning our favorite, or at least one of our favorite game franchises.
