  1. That's an amazing portrait. Well fuck you too. I like the coloring here for some reason, but it' a shame that you still start at the very top. DSFE supreme as always. Average FE casual playing KagaFE: Me playing KagaFE: Eyy. Mystery good. Good for him, but you really need to learn how to Maji. Only 2 more to cap! This chapter's alright, but it's clearly been made to brag about the Minerva you just got, while also saying fuck you due to the ballistaes. I mean, fair. She'd probably trivialize the entire map otherwise. Anyways, the DS version is superior because you can throw Draco Jeigan/Wendell right onto the village and decimate the mercs with elderly power. This boss looks so fuggin goofy. I know FE1 borrowed portraits like hell, but at least it was a cool one. I just can't take this guy seriously, and yet I feel like he'd fit Morzas more. That face would at least be fittingly comical when he can say something like "Yesss, it was meee. I killed yer motherrr, and now you must diieee!". Okay, maybe not that stupid, but something about this looks so dumb to me. That said, no dragon portrait is more sad than FE11 Morzas. It feels so generic that it could be a default portrait for manaketes if the DS games worked like modern FE for regular enemy portraits. Don't say or when Ruben's around. Oh it's fine. Just make sure that xp doesn't go to waste. Use Jeigan til endgame. Something something dragonskin. Aw whaaaat? But that map has the ICONIC Nerring! I'm trying to become more composed, as one must accept the reality that the world is full or boring simpletons who don't appreciate what they are given. If Ruben can be the Frost guy despite never having actually made him kill Medeus or do anything interesting, than I can be the Maji Minister without dealing with that shitty ass Port chapter. Well now I feel obligated to go back to FE3 over the FE1 idea. Eh, until your Maji surpasses mine in stats, I'm still winning, and you're doing a terrible job at that so far. unfortunately I downloaded some rando fe3 pre patched rom on my phone in 2 minutes when I first tested mobile snes Nintendo pc and I'm pretty sure it uses boring DS names for most things, so it's technically still Cord there. Soul vs soul-less. It's crazy seeing mages in all of these Archanea games, then I'm occasionally watching my brother trying to use mages in FE9 and holy shit they are so bad. They HATE forging tomes, and good luck using effective wind. Armors got that 8+ res while your tomes got like 3 might. What were they thiiiiiinking? Or tell me they're not actually villains.
  2. Despite how often I defend FE3, this is the map that made me stop playing B1, which is pretty darn early. I'll get back into it one day, but man is this map just ass. Just look at that Genealogy ass formation. There's nothing happening here, but also too much happening. Like, I can tolerate it enough in DSFE, but it's just mega boring here and you probably will lose units if you play aggressively because there's simply too many of them. That and the layout is also just a nothing burger. I only remember enjoying this chapter in FE1 for being a giant xp fest for Roger and me realizing how OP Bantu was, but the map wasn't good. I don't know who you are or what you've done with Caesar, but your portrait looks so cool, so I won't call you a fraud. I'd like to use him when I actually resume B1, since I have a habbit of using Caesar in the DS games and have him pop off like crazy, although his growths are a bit sad here. because all of it apparently went to this redhead. I'll say, Raddy's a name I like saying way more. It makes me giggle. Shit man, those growths though. For bases not too far off Cheeserr, Raddy seems like the better unit of the bunch. There has to be at least 4 gay jokes I can make here. Main problem I had with FE12 Bantu. Can't forge stone hit. This really should be much higher. There he is! Kannival the Canni- Ah, I mean Canaris. Canaris the- Fucking dammit Kaga. It's like you don't want Biraku to level up to 20/20. We need more of that. Not a lot more, mind you. We need more old people the most. You're already over halfway done. Just beat the fucking game already. You don't have to keep him at base. You can throw a Dracoshield on him. And yeah, stat boosters in FE1 are busted and can make anyone amazing (though Dracoshield is actually pretty modest only +3 defense), but what Bantu uniquely has over everyone else is that Dracoshields on him let's him actually exceed the defense cap. We really having Bantu debates. This truly is the "To Become An Elitist" of all time.
  3. Ruben when he can no longer spend 500 turns dodging his way to promoting Wrys at the end of the game: Ruben when Kaga didn't put as much thought into one random chapter as much as he did: I've never heard that complaint myself either. Maybe this guy is just imagining things. I have to do berserker Wendell in my next FE12 run. Personally, I think the DS art is better for Minerva here, but that could in part just be me not wanting women to be happy. I like to think that line was a slight jab at Kaga who basically always wrote his lore in the fashion of one guy dumping lore onto someone else that already knows it, at least in his first few FE games. It happens a lot in FE4 (as my brother keeps telling me as he plays it again for some stupid reason), where one noble or evil cult man just yaps to another about their generic evil plan that involves the potential future for their land that lasts like 2 to 3 minutes, but like they both already know this and are only wasting time reaffirming the point so the player can learn. Very tacky, but what do I know about the world's greatest storytelling apparently. I'm the guy that doesn't think Kris is a crime against humanity. Yes we know our Ruben lore. I'm telling you to actually give it a chance. I want a scenario where you're forced to finish the game and use Maji. I mean, who else are you gonna use? Riff? I don't think so. Refer to Shaky Quote #6 Hey at least Thracia sort of does it better! It's still mostly tactician to Lord monologue, but at least it works better givein Leif's character and youth as opposed to the awesome bluntness of August who in turn often argues with the honorable Dryas/Dorias, another one of Leif's tacticians, both of whom serve as a literal leadership stat to Leif, combining their service to Leif as both a form of storytelling as well as a boon for Leif in gameplay. It's not perfect, but remember that this is Fire Emblem. There is no good story. The desperation of wanting to mask your obsession with using only waifus as "smart". Just be honest. You never used him and never want to use him because you need boobs on your screen to find the will to play. Seth's power is that he turns you gay with his sheer stats. The correct approach to matters of "canon". If it's not in the game, I can choose to ignore it. The canon approach is that Maji kills Medeus, so most of you aren't even playing this game right. I assume so that their arms don't get tired out from the weight of the armor on their arms and shoulders. They obviously desire regular armor to avoid headshots from other archers and don't get insta-killed when a cav rushes to them, and it does explain why archers have armor move and in DSFE, they are one of the tankier classes (although your starting archers aren't the best indication of that, and the armor appearance is gone). I can't believe you'd body shame them like that! All that effort to protect themselves and get fit, just to be called generic...
  4. Now I can assure myself that there's no reason to invest in future nintendo consoles.
  5. Okay I get you, but what about Armor Annete? Surely this can't go wrong for you. So does this mean you're happy about My Castle dying in a few months?
  6. Or Kannival Lorenz is still goated with the sauce. I'm already noticing that I have much better memory with FE12 boss portraits, and now most of these feel 'iconic' to me, although I still struggle to remember by name, as even IRL I tend to usually focus on facial features for recognition. Like, oh of course the draco boss from chapter 2 with hair way too similar to mine! I'm torn on Lykke. I actually really like both for different reasons. They exude different auras of intimidation. I do think the FE12 one really works in the sense of both of them being people that stare towards the left with the same...okay I'm embarrassed to admit it but I don't actually know what the thing around their neck is called. You get what I mean. It's like a Macedon thing with their similarities and I like that, but they look different enough to not be copies. Gail is the best thing to come out of FE12. He looks like Gheb's cousin. I want a shitpost romhack where you play as Gail. Tarus is the guy I feel bad for always killing with cav Kris. Very boring, but I'm not going to play any other way with 3 ballisticians with armors nearby. Unless I'm doing a no kris run. Then I'm using Ryan, who's almost just as game breaking. While I definitely prefer the FE3 one, the FE12 one works well enough for me to say it looks good compared to a sizable chunk of FE11 portraits while not just basically being the same boss from said previous game. I adore SNESFE coloring, but something about the slightly increased slant in his DSFE portrait really adds to him in my eyes. Wait, that's just his cancer putting him to sleep. I noticed that quite a couple of people quoted Dall the levin man in an FE12 boss theme ost on youtube. I guess he must be popular. He truly did nothing wrong. Dall's the kinda guy who'd be perfect as a Thracia recruit, you feel me? I'll take him over Rickard again any day. I'm going to be honest. Jeorge looks autistic in both Kaga portraits. Now he's just depressed in DSFE. You know what, that works. I'd be depressed too if I found out that a reclassed old man out performed my role in SD, and then my king sent my 2 range ass to die in a defend map (from his POV). They did Yodel dirty. I don't hate his FE12 version, but you didn't even have a reason to change it! A lot of these early ones were similar or straight up copies from FE3 that you used for FE11, I get it. What about this guy? He looked great! I supposed if he looked that salty in DSFE, I'd want to use him more. What a sad insecure man. Shit man, Eibel's a gigachad. I always loved this guy in FE12, and I forgot he once shared portraits with the greatest man from FE3. Eibel's so cool dude. I'm glad he stopped shamelessly trying to copy the cool guy in the block and became his own man. Abel vs Eibel be quite the fight. I do wish that Abel also had an armorslayer (give him C rank swords) or maybe even make Eibel a paladin that moved after the wave of reinforcements while the throne boss can be whoever (generic armor boss) and he might make Abel move then if you haven't rescued Est yet. I like Astram. He's iconic. He's consistent. He's the canon Mercurius wielder. He's the strongest man in the continent. He's a good unit in Fe1 and Fe3, and he's pretty fun with the right reclassing in SD (Warrior Astram is a treat), although he then became infamous for his FE12 treatment, which only adds to his charm in my irony-addicted eyes. I especially love that Engage made his enemy version literally capped on every stat on Maddening with multiple life bars. Also, there is a cipher card with Jeorge wielding Parthia, but not of Astram with Mercurius. That dent is so funny. I knew he reminded me of Volzhin, but he was clearly the lesser favorite child. Dropped in the head. He really tried to outperform him, and he succeeded. Great plan. Extremely hard map. Good for you. FE3 Astram reminds me a little too much of Sigurd, but heck. It's still my favorite one. FE12 one is fine, but I'll always pick Arran in SD. I do wish Sheema was less feminine looking in either game I will say, I actually really like the DS portraits of the Wolfguard over the older designs. The only exception being Biraku of course. FE3 Biraku could break 3rd amendment any time he wanted. I think the gentle appearance of Rosh works for what they end up going for in NM/Mystery (his forehead is comically large in FE3), Sedgar has a serious and focused look, dedicated to fighting his battles int the name of Hardin, and Wolf has clearly seen enough shit to warrant covering his eyes and seeking death post FE12. There he is! The final boss of New Mystery! Damn, I forgot to bring up Zharov. It's easily my 2nd favorite SNESFE portrait, and I'm super glad it was reused for Nerring despite that being unoriginal, but I love Nerring so much. (No I will not call him Nehring). The FE12 one was of course the best outcome for a change given that I thought the FE11 one looked alright, but nothing grand like its FE3 counterpart. Also Nerring is the coolest final boss. I really like the front facing Hardin in the original, which is of course also backed up by my general preference for FE3 artwork. I really liked the idea of the guy just having all capped stats, and him having so for FE12 is mainly annoying given how that map plays out on lunatic. Gharnef get out of here. I'll Frost you up. Fuggin red ass dude. What a loser. Okay, I've been saying this for years. FE3 Medeus is one of the coolest looking final bosses in the series. Especially given how he looks in battle. I looked seeing him in this gigantic Shadow form that takes up the entire screen in which only his head was fully visible. It was the dragon we deserved to have in the game called Shadow Dragon. I love FE3 B2 Medeus. His portrait basiclaly being the head for that on its own is a great showcase of how the actual fight will just be that, but much bigger. The NM one of him is meh. It's already ruined by him being the most BS fight in the series. If it hasn't already been talked about enough. i could easily make a separate thread just ranting about how unfair it is, even if it's obvious why.
  7. He prioritizes the wrong people. Riff..... I appreciate making Rosh of the wolfguard better, as the Wolfguard do deserve better and being stronger would make more people use them (I hope), although they then screwed over Sedgar/Wolf, and Biraku is basically donion rings due to how Rosh and even Matthis make his existence pointless. Don't get me wrong, I love trash meme units, but if you're going to rebalance your old cast, why only do one? Times were.....fuckin stupid I dunno. Did you see the way he talked? I don't want to believe it, but I think he might actually want this. And yet, FE11 mentions the silver sword for Hardin that Hardin can't use Skill issue. Sure. Time for everyone here to shill Kannival. I'm serious. This will be the new purpose of the thread. People who like FE4 have often told me they really like the characters. Hell, a few days ago I got into another FE4 argument in which they said the characters were so good to them, but I cannot see the appeal past the often non translated romance dialogue you can get when putting lovers in the same castle on rare occasions. Hoshido doesn't want to get sued by Intelligent Systems.
  8. I don't care about Valentia, we need to turn this thread into a Kannival appreciation thread: I personally love FE3 portraits more than way too many other FE games for my own good, and I understand why FE11 tried to mainly recreate the FE3 portraits over the FE1 ones, although the charm isn't quite there for me at least, for a couple of them at least. Like, Volzhin feels like a somewhat iconic Archanea boss, and I do think his NES portrait works the best, although having several other bosses share a similar look does weaken him, so I'm glad it became more unique to him in the future entries, although the sharp shading from the original feels lost. Like, Harmein looks great in Mystery for someone who's basically been completely redone, regardless of how I feel towards the "red armored menacing old man", and I always thought he stood out in my FE11 runs from the mystery design they gave him, although his eyes aren't quite as noticable. Khozen looks like shit in Mystery though. Like, why he look like that? I'd bully this person. He looks super cool in FE1, and at least somewhat grim and monstrous in SD. What were they going for in FE3? Cackling witch? Sure, I can see a personality like that, but it looks so funny. It's gotta be the smile and hand pose. I loved the beard... But then they didn't even try for Morzas. Like, that looks like it could pass off for a generic manakete portrait if DSFE used face portraits for generic enemies like modern FE. Again, NESFE default manakete bosses look great, and SNESFE did a great job imo with redesigning him here, but in an attempt to appease the Xemcel fans, they just let this guy rot, like Kaga left Riff to rot. Bro fuming at what they did to Tiki. Just wait til you find out she's British now. I will say, for the last couple of ones, I actually prefer the SD versions the most. Personally, Camus feels too "anime" in the old ones, so it's hard for me to take the blatant favoritism here of "look at the pretty boy", even if it was mainly done to show some kind of beautiful connection between the romance thing going on between him and Nyan (all of Mystery is her fault). Michalis looks like a bratty brother who just lost a game of Smash bros to his sister, who was then told to get his picture taken for the school picture day (changed to have a somewhat generic expression that doesn't exude much of a personality or imposing threat), to then have a heart to heart with his dad about maturity (his SD is decent-ish). Gharnef is good in SD when he learned to not rip off the amazing Bantu, and the SNESFE Gharnef is reminding me of that weird Cipher art of Gharnef where he has the grey skin, but is kinda doing that Mystery pose while looking oddly....skinny? Something about this just looks off imo. Medeus is virtually identical all the way through, but I can't help but enjoy his elongated potato head in SD the most. That's like, the main thing he's known for. Oriddyon has no right to look that badass with that stare towards old Orridyon. He takes the spotlight away from Michalis. He looks amazing in SD. And one of the best portraits in all of FE: My man Lorenz! He looks good in literally all 3 versions. I can't rank him. They're all really well done. He's just a really cool looking character. A damn shame he's barely used in FE11 due to not so great stats. I hear he's quite decent in FE1. Even if it's a mostly borrowed portrait, what they add does wonders to make him stand out above everyone one else in the cast. Love ya Lorenz. I'll comment on War of Heroes later.
  9. I love Saji! Not enough to reset for him when I somehow got him killed early on from lack of giving a shit and didn't want to restart (epic Jeigan lvl), but I mean....go Saji. I don't consider this too much when playing FE given my extreme focus on pure gameplay, but I do admit this game has some sort of charm I don't feel in many other FE's. Maybe this is what you're talking about. Of course, B1 is still kinda difficult to enjoy because FE11 is just too good, while B2 feels at least different enough that I loved both versions. Sooner or later, you'll want to blow your brains out from hearing the map theme for the 20th time. The game can't just let you solo this early. What the fuck happened here? And Kaga wonders why I talk shit on him. What were you thinking!? Whoever remade Shadow Dragon must've felt betrayed by this. if only they kept Saji's iconic hammer Pretty sure I still killed him with Maji. Oh, so you'll definitely not like Genealogy. Good to know. Well this is their only chance of being a character since there's no obscure extra dialogue scenes in this era of Kaga FE. I genuinely don't get why people will say Archanea characters have no character, but then say Genealogy has amazing characters. The power of shipping sim really does wonders to the human mind. And they say they hate modern FE...I laugh. Oh hell yeah, just like me. Oh shit, nothing like me. You're pretty bad at Maji'ing, ya know that? Guess you're just the 10% speed master. Shoulda requested Saji for your case. Oh well. This is funnier. This showcases the flaw of B1 that I'll concede to when Ruben inevitably shits on FE3 again. This map was not designed with fe3 mount mechanics in mind. This chapter is a lot more boring when most of your army are basically sword locked mercs (you just got like, 3 extra cavs). Now the map plays much slower and everything just feels more boring that FE1, which sucks because I actually like this chapter quite a bit. It's not completely ruined, but the start of "I wish I was playing FE11 instead" for me. They tried nerfing the world's greatest athlete by making him start 1 second later in the race. Great job Kaga. Okay, Kaga is good again. The start of a horrifying fate for reinforcements in Fire Emblem games to come. I shed a tear from sheer beauty. Man, manaketes are so cool in SNESFE. Yeah, that didn't do shit for me either. Minerva, you traitor. He would do that. I take back my one compliment. You're a poopy head. Tf you gonna do? Change cord in New mystery. You don't have power past Thraica. I win. Hey! It's doing wonders for my Maji. Well in all seriousness, I do kinda like Kaga and respect how he designs his games, even if I utterly despise FE2 and FE4. There's more effort I can credit there than FE7, that's for sure. But don't tell him I said that. I guarantee you, Ruben would have an amazing Maji if he actually gave FE3 a chance. He should totally do that after his rev run. He plays fe3 b1, and I play his precious FE1. Of course, I am considering trying out @Polinym's Project War of Darkness for the QoL additions like master seals and the translation patch that I think was used by Gnip. Sure it wouldn't be pure vanilla, but I think it's similar enough to where I could justly rank the game without hating myself for playing FE1 again. Don't worry. You focus on getting good at Maji gaming.
  10. I was mainly referring to how often I see you mention it in general. Funny stuff. Well, as long as the units themselves don't get deleted, I'm fine without chapter 4. It was a rather boring chapter anyways. Kinda fun depending on your immediate reclass choices and decision to not use wingspear in the DS, but definitely not anything worth crying about in old FE by not being there. Not that ai recall at least. Did a part of that arc include turning his game designing philosophy into that of a retro point and click puzzle game thar requires a guide to get all the content for? Like is that just synonymous with axe units? Kaga forgave SoV for hypnotizing Celica pointlessly, clearly in honor of him. FE12 fixed his biggest mistake by having Wrys play a major role in the prologue and serve as the first recruitable of the gaiden chapter arc in which his map is one of the only ones that are actually good. It's a nice detail I noticed during B2, but man I cant get enough of the way they looked when they fought in FE1 animations. Did he just run out of names? Agh, I focused too much on the pure axe boys. Well, guess it dont matter, because there's no way you'd actively choose to use axes with the weight on this game. This is speculation, but many fans in Japan started with FE3 rather than FE1 and Harmein is more prominent than the other guy with that portrait in FE3 book 1, so maybe modern IS thought fans would associate with more Harmein even though he didn't use it in FE1? I don't remember saying this.
  11. This guy gets it. The castles represent the United Kingdom. They tried to shank the enemies. That failed. The villages is the average American city. We shootin your ass. Kaga isn't too fond of hypnotizing old men. Everyday, I imagine a future where I play FE12 (on my switch). This is the first proper menu in the series, and it genuinely looks better than the 3H preparations screen. Visually, I love it. Gameplay, what the FUCK did you do to my boy!? Kaga why!? WWHHHHYY!?!?!? The main thing that arguably makes this more challenging is the lack of a healer, so I suppose you can't just have one or two units destroy all the enemies like my strength growth Jeigan in FE1. I'm starting to think Kaga hates axes. Fuck you Kaga. Axes are quite heavy, so even speed blessed axe units will have trouble doubling, especially in the lategame, and FE3 B2 straight up doesn't have playable axe units, which single handedly proves that FE12 is a superior game, yet I still see too many people call FE12 FE3 but bad. Dude, FE12 has BordCordBarst Triangle Attack. It's peak. Fe2 doesn't really do anything with axes, and FE4 gives you like 2 axe users or so (I don't remember if Hannibal can use them). That and they're SUPER heavy in that game. At least FE5 makes up for all of this with some really damn good axe units and Dagdar being one of the coolest jeigans who is a warrior. Also Ruben insists that Berwick has a crazy good axe guy. On the bright side, hand axes in FE3 B1 get the benefit of NOT weighing you down all the way to zero, unlike javelins, so they are better than javs in that regard. Belemce. JimmyFE weeps There he is! I'll shill FE3 art a lot, but I do prefer the DS art a lot more with Cord/Maji. His HP growth is so small, Gnip made the font .000001 to represent how low it is! Bravo! So yeah, Maji is absolutely a meme unit in FE3. I will defend Cord as an S tier unit to the moon and back in FE11, a solid FE12 unit, and a decent-ish unit in FE1, but holy shit. 10% HP unpromotable fighter is like, the most Shaky Jones thing ever. I hate it. I love it. It's such disrespect, just like my presence. I haven't got far in my FE3 run, but my Maji is easily my best unit so far, doubling everyone and one rounding all the cavs with his iron axe. He has jack shit HP though, so tanking is still....a challenge, but Maji can overcome all. Yes, but FE1 thieves look so much cooler in battle. Allow me. Unlucky! They definitely tried to balance armors through them being the only people who can use javs indoors, although there isn't too much desire for that when hand axes, magic, and bows exists. I suppose you could argue the nerf on javs does balance out wanting to use the unpromotable axe boys and the bow units that elitists despise, which does balance out a comparison between someone like Palla and Barst, but it really isn't helping Doga. You basically just see armors as "My only way of using Gradivus on endgame", but B1 gives you a couple of armors as your options, as opposed to B2 which only gives you 2. Serenes loves to censor the truth. 1984. I'm just talking about the existence of a proper convoy/battle prep screen making this game better than FE1 by default. Someone might've double dog dared Kaga. Do you think IntSys fires employees the moment they turn 30? They're practically Sahpir levels of old! Get in that retirement home fella! I'm more of a Ceasar fan, but good for you. You just gotta squint your eyes and be really drunk. Clealry, the chapter 5 boss in Engage is a reference to this man I heard he conned the doctor from him even showing up at his own birth. I almost respect the consistent repeated fan game shilling. I guarantee you, the elitists would consider this a world changing lifesaver, and in this case, I'll take anything I can get to justify using these boys. True, they're good enough to be used for playing cards or something. Better than the GBA generic class portraits, and perhaps the generic face portraits of 3DS FE. Love these cards. Leen lol
  12. I respect it. Hey, that's where I stopped too! I fucking love this opening though. The classic music I'm used to hearing in SD, the opening of the game with the Emblem and the scrolls. I can hear the calming and mystical music emanating from this screenshot. God, I love the startup menu for this game. Possibly my favorite in the series. Something about feels genuinely magical to me. I also love how the map zooms in and out as you play the game which is even shown here and it zooms accordingly to the chapter of the book you're playing instead of just transitioning to a black screen, and I just love the SNES Archanea music so much. Too bad book 1 will actually show the worst of that through having the same problem of map themes being the fucking same for 97% of the game. Shit, I brought it up before thinking about when or whether you'd mention it. Man, it's just so cool... I'm already gushing. Fuck, I really do love this game, but I have so many problems with it. Where's the fun in playing old games if you're just going to use modern translations that make the script basicaly the same to the remake. Embrace Akeneia and Nabarl. There is something unimaginably charming to seeing the map I've played at least 15 times by now in SNES coloring. A lot worse. Unlucky. Sword units are always good on account of having little to weigh them down, but most of what made him great in FE1 is now gone. Le sad. My Jeigan was sure going wild. He looks amazing, and at the end of the day, isn't that all that FE fans ever care about? She's still an unfaithful bi- He mostly shines in the early game dependent on how the player paves his way to the seize point, as this game's biggest crime will soon prevent you from abusing healing. Automatically 20 times better than FE1. This cannot be debated to the only person in the world that wants to say otherwise. Just give me like 3 more runs and I'll have all of them to talk about. I still fucking hate Ceada On one hand, you could be grateful that FE4 begins telling you a lot more about stats, but it's FE4. Nobody looks at the stats. You just threw Sigurd and your other holy weapon users to the front lines. No one's doing the math for 12 different enemies attacking you. You'll probably be fine. This will be the part of the thread where Nerdy Jones shows his loser side the most, as I simply must point out how much I love these portraits. They're not even stellar, but they feel so classic. Most of FE1's portraits are either laughably shit or just alright (although the sprites in battle were great), but I can't help but really like these. Like I mentioned before, I actually really love FE3 artwork, and I'm pretty sure Ruben doesn't while I also recently got into an argument over FE4 artwork being good vs bad (it's bad). Somehow, it even feels nostalgic and like something you would see in an early 90's CRPG or something and I like the shading introduced here, while FE4 is just the same people with equally large foreheads and the exact same faces. Narrative sense, schmaritive scents. It's boring. Lords are rarely the highlight of the game. There's too many other units I love that I want to see be in the spotlight through my actions. Don't hold my hand and tell me to follow the narrative path. Arran killing him is 500 times more meaningful in my eyes, and I'm glad this game at least lets me do that. Even when it comes to people that seemingly aren't depraved, shipping discussion becomes a divided topic. Sometimes I worry that I'm unwanted for complaining too much, but then I remember that Ruben is the pettiest person on the planet. That's mostly a joke, but come on my guy! It looks fine! I know you draw from time to time, but this feels like an artist saying something is horribly off while the crowd doesn't notice the .05% coloring mis-match in one spot. I like that the shading is there. He's slightly leaning and the shading is supposed to show that. Maybe it shouldn't've be so dark, but I'd certainly prefer it there than it not being there at all. I won't pretend I fully know what I'm talking about, but this is easily his coolest portrait. The FE11 one is generic and the FE1 one...I don't have to say anything. It's cool man! It's cool! These portraits are awesome! I love all of these so far. Except Caeda. Her presence disgusts me. Okay, reading back, I sound like I'm taking this super seriously. My bad. I just got shocked seeing something that made me instinctively react with "Bro is TRYING to be as nitpicky as possible". It isn't THAT bad, is it? This is a nitpick I can complain about at least. I don't like getting a rise in my anxiety every time I kill a boss. I just can't get used to it. For a split second, my heart skips a beat and I immediately think "ohmygoddidimiscalculatedidhehavecounterohfuckohshit". Why Kaga why? It is quite a feeling.
  13. Spoken like a true victim of Kaga's hypnosis treatment. This is one of the only times Gnip will get to use his brain in Genealogy. Dont ruin that for him.
  14. Virgin "Genealogy had such great story gameplay integration" vs Chad "temple damage timer? Splendid" enjoyer. Interesting points. I was reading into Rudolf's lines that he was intending for Alm to be the hero who will defeat him, but that might just be an assumption on my part brought by my exposure to Echoes. Rudolf becoming a villain so that *somebody* may become a hero by defeating him does mean that things don't just have to happen in a very specific fashion on their own, although from how @Interdimensional Observer describes it, it seems that Super Robot Wars had created a still more plausible version of that story. From your (the Observer's) summary, a big reason why Bian's plot works better seems to be that he has a very direct reason to do his questionable things - I assume they're questionable, since he's the villain and a "global military regime" doesn't exactly sound like a heroic thing to establish. But I can see the logic - *he* does morally dark grey stuff, so when he's overthrown, the new guys will have both the power necessary to fight the aliens (since they're evidently stronger than he) and clean slate in a moral sense. Hm. Also a small detail that I don't think works well with the whole "evil god Doma" angle. Yeah, thread titles are watched more strictly than posts. I had "shitposting" sanitised into "s***posting" before while both it and "fucking dead" were still cool in the OP. And I don't know if the thread "I *redacted* hate tellius tomes" always had *redacted* in its title. Don't complain, I didn't even use either "easy" or "pickings" to describe that. Plus, Ryuto genuinely has better expected damage vs. Rudolf than most (if not all) other units on the field. 39% accuracy is bad, sure, but Rudolf takes really little damage from physical attacks, and the Horseslayer has bad accuracy, too. And while Dyute can hit even harder with Aura, she also has a whopping 19% accuracy with it, so she'd have to use Seraphim, instead... at 29% hit. I didn't say I rated quality. I was rating insanity. ...what's Doma's Res stat, again? I mean, how high-level were your Saints to even deal meaningful damage to him? Or did you figure out how to bring him from, like, 53 HP to 3 to make it work? I didn't take you for the hapless romantic type. Roshe was used in FE1 Biraku/Vyland will be used in Book 1 Matthis will be used in Book 2 Nono. I sailed. (thank you for setting up that incredibly stupid joke) That seems like a likely explaination, actually. Although... ...this guy would've been right there to do the expositioning instead, maybe with a little "if Meißen dead" clause. Yeah, a pretty cool gameplay/story integration, especially for its time. It is probably just random chance that Jenny and Atlas (and Celica, for that matter) didn't get injured. But I like to imagine that Jenny was standing in the back like a good Physic-knowing healer, while Atlas was raining down fire and brimstone from afar because he was wearing the Magic Ring. Edited 2 hours ago by gnip Holy shit, what happened to this post? It was awful then and it's even more awful now. No 40 magic? Where did it all go wrong. I love lovecraftian shit. I was even gonna name my cat after what he named his, but my family frowned at the idea. What a shame. One of my least favorite petty things in FE. I implore you to not go for a Mars kill in FE3. I nearly vomited playing FE9 just recently as is. It's not fucking fair! Shinon deserved the Ashnard kill! Tauroneo deserved it! Don't act all high and mighty you monster man. What the author wants the player to believe what the game is actually about (kill all purple people) The plot sucked back then and it's 20 times worse in the remake. Never trust anyone who says they love SoV for the story. Wait, what's wrong? Did Cleive die? Cult bad. Don't overthink it. Just you wait for Genealogy maps. HOO BOY... Yeah, nothing will change that both the OG and remake are low tiers for me primarily from map design. Even if I were to end up agreeing about the story somehow being good or that nothing in life but voice acting matters, I'd still rank SoV very low because a strategy has to have competent stages. That's like, the 2nd priority. That said, I probably like SoV a tiny bit more than Gaiden purely from me not needing the 400% speed key pressed and held at all times, but given how the story in SoV is just mind rotting to me, combined with the nerf of rings, one of the only things I found fun in Gaiden, makes it somehow worse than this outdated crap in several areas (Celica's army taking damage is leagues above "Celica is brainwashed? Oh noes!"). I mostly mentioned hit rate hell in the early posts (I think), but this game is easily the worst when it came to hit rates for me. You wouldn't beleive how often I missed. I'm almost certain I missed more attacks than I landed. Technically, it didn't feel nearly as bad as FE6 because the game is easier than FE6, so 3 misses in a row isn't a game over, but still annoying as hell. Granted, I miss like crazy in all the Kaga games, and it frustrates me to no end, but Gaiden was its own beast. I believe one of the reasons I actually liked Celica's rout more than Alm's was because magic was mostly fixed in hit rate so I didn't have to deal with steel weapon hit decreases or the 5 billion forest or stone tile accuracy debuffs as much, even though a team of mages basically guarantees you'll never have hit rates above 80. Wait, I already don't remember this. C tier. You are very forgiving... My sig says I like this game more than FE1, despite FE1 being a much better game regarding balance and having actual maps, and my tier lists are constantly struggling to place the NES games in anything consistent. It's hard to rank them. They're dated as hell, but it does feel a bit wrong to completely put them at the bottom. My last tier last had them in their own NES tier which is basically a cop out of not comparing them to other games until I decide whether they're D or not. I did like FE2 more than FE1, much to my own surprise, but I'm 99% certain that was purely the rings. Seeing units reach 40 in such an old game felt way too exciting for me, even though it shouldn't have. At least I can say there are a few cool things about FE2 over SoV. FE1, even if I respect manaketes more, is mostly just completely inferior to FE11. I don't have a reason to go back to FE1. I don't have a reason to go back to either monster game, but there is something worth going back to in FE2, even if accompanied by a thousand shitty side elements. It's still a unique game at the end of the day, and while FE1 deserves respect for being the first game in the series with suprisingly good design every now and then, it's frustrating to play because it's an archaic version of something you've experienced multiple times, but better. "I could be playing Binding Blade" or anything that's normal FE. I'd definitely put this game at least in D, possibly worse given my distaste for the maps and everything regarding SoV, but then I'd have to reconsider my placement of SoV and PoR, then I'd have to consider FE1, because I do believe FE1 is better than PoR, but putting FE1 on D and everything else at E would also contradict me liking FE2 more than FE1. Shit, this is why I hate tryna rank the NES games. It throws a wrench in how I ranked everything else. It was so easy to make a tier list, but these games make me question what I like and don't like. Urgh, at this rate, I might actually have to replay FE1. Who knows? Maybe I'll put FE1 at C, SoV and Gaiden at D, and all the other bad ones at E. You already know what's my F. FE2 is definitely bad in my eyes, but I slightly respect FE1 even though I also think it's bad for no convoy/no battle stat window/no respect for Riff. I technically didn't HATE hate PoR last time I played, but I sure as hell was bored the whole time, and I legit do have more respect for Gaiden even if PoR was sort of a better time overall. Damn it, why is NESFE so complicated for my brain to wrap its head around? I usually have no problem shilling old games. Td;dr: I say Gaiden and SoV are D tier, but you've made me reconsider where I should be ranking FE1, and how NESFE should be categorized in my personal tier lists. I'll give anything to say it's better than 3H, but I need to know if I really mean that. Damn you. Macellan with no Dolph? Poor fella's gonna be lonely. At least you won't feel stupid wasting time to recruit Matthis for nothing. My request is that you don't give FE4 any mercy when ranking it. We're playing games here. We ain't ranking books, so don't give me that "It's at least a B for the impressive story it tells for it's time". Man runs around country and has heat stroke. Wow. How grand. Now tell me how much you enjoyed walking around 100 desert tiles followed by another 100 desert tiles 2 maps later. Welp. Headache. There it is. You just had to say it one last time. Insanity? Then use 3H fans as the scale. If by figure out you mean wailing on him until he reached 3 HP, then yes. I am a genius. Skeletons have 4 moods: Saucy Edgy El romántico Suicidal ideation Don't worry about this being a cry for help. I'm already dead. No don't worry, this isn't a self harm joke. I'm an American. Did you actually think I made it through high school unscathed? It's crazy that moments that this and some events in FE5 made moments special for me, but everyone just focuses on invisible barriers as peak integration. I genuinely don't get it. And how would I go about doing that? For what it's worth, I do really like Walhart, and I thought the references to Gaiden in Awakening were cool, although I don't think the Santa hair was necessary. "It's not a bug. It's a feature." The more you talk, the more you think about how stupid this is. It's best to stay quiet. I am sorry you were such a shit game you beautiful old bastard. Seriously Ruben. Tell me this isn't a literal Genealogy formation. Yes, I remember hearing of that. He's way better off with Merric than his annoying ass sister. Get outta heeeeere (and then he and Merric lived happliy ever after, as platonic best friends of course) Aw, but I like seeing Finn talk with his kid in gen 2. It's sweet to think that he's the one dad who can and actually is willing to be there for his kid. but they're not on a horse so they're bad I like to think Gnip can just use trade stats to get most characters to get the stats they want. That was the most fun part for me. Killing 99% of Astram's hero squad while using trade strats for optimal gains. Everyone wins, except Astram. I'll never get Oifey being his own archetype. He's still a Jeigan. You're clearly supposed to mainly have non substitutes, so his growths are bad in comparison. The game simply knew that gen 2 isn't designed around FE1 jeigan growths and designed him around that while still keeping him not completely busted. Seth and Titania are nothing like that. Holy heck, this was a long post. Not how I thought I'd spend the early bulk of my spooky day. Speaking of: Happy Free Abduction Day everybody. Watch out for spooky skeletons.
  15. I always have at least 2 broken units that can obliterate him by the time I get here, both here and in SoV. Oh well. Rudolf really wants to be killed by his kid. Surely a part of his 5 billion IQ plan. Heck yeah! I should've know you'd have done this. I really should've. Ruben has it too good. Mycen, I love you, but what the FUCK are you talking about? No no, it's Santa's fault. Mycen's just the guy who sends you to the next act screen. A scale where Corrin is the best. This doesn't seem like the most ideal rating system. Imagine IGN rating a game from 1 to Genealogy, or what they probably wanted to do for Engage, 1 to 3 Houses. The plan is super shit, so the main crime SoV does is being a remake, therefore making this reveal last way longer, giving the player more time to realize how stupid this all is. Maybe the dev wanted to be faithful to what they thought was a crazy reveal and plot twist. If we all thought like that, then FE12 wouldn't have had Wrys. I never took long enough to see the result, but I'll admit that just seeing this made me real giddy. Like, that's just a cool concept. You did something good Kaga. This retroactively means something really stupid is coming to balance that out. Of course. I love save states. Maybe if Kaga applied this creativity in an actual FE game, we'd get something cool. This is the part where you bring up either the best or worst maps in Tear Ring, because if I mention Thracia, Ruben will just whine about the lategame again. Or Kaga could just make Genealogy. Ah..... Alm's Trials......yeah. ........ I fucking forgot to do Alm's Trials. I dunno! I just found the endgame room before this! Or maybe I just walked past it? I just don't recall ever seeing this door, soooo.... Nosferatu gaming it was. something something Alm is her world What a loser. There's something cute about hearing the endgame theme in the silly 8 bit crunch, but nothing stops the fact that no matter how much people wanna shill the OST in SoV, this map is a fucking U with 500+ cantor summons. What a way to end the game. And of course, "only the protagonist can deal the final blow" To heck with that garbage. I actually wanted to kill you with Silque. Yeah, that's it! Gottem. Can I rant about PoR again now? I'm already getting confuzzled. Who's getting used in which book? Old FE is the only time you can actually use Hardin's iconic silver sword properly. Stupid ass FE11. That still makes no sense! Just give him B swords, D lances! You didn't have the kind of Maji Ruben did. You failed. Good for Darros though. Maybe this time will be different. My FE3 Maji was something else, at least for the amount of chapters I currently have in it. Ya know, just with one teeny downside. That is true, although I never saw starshards as "dibs" as you know I tried my damned hardest to make sure every level was shard abused, for as unnecessary as it was, it felt damn good. So yeah, Maji for b1, Arran for b2, although I'm really hoping Arran can also be used for b1 as an FE3 adventure kinda thing. I love Arran. Hopefully Marth doesn't steal the Meddy kill with a crit... But rage is a fulfilling addiction. Well that's just comical. It doesn't even know how to fix the game when the answer is right in front of them. From a 2/10 to a 3.3! Wow! Literally 1984. Glad I learned something today. I learned that Gaiden has an Alm's Trials.
  16. SoV design, the definition of a siren. Vocal seduction that lures one into a trap where they are mutilated by the monster within. Voice acting le good. Game design le bad. Its because we can't hear you clearly with all that bullshit in your mouth. It means you're getting older. Your Matthis badge is revoked. I'm sure fe3 fans mald and seethe upon being told fe3 isn't canon and Kris is. Unlucky! It is sad that Wrys is canonically revoked from the Archenean history books despite being of crucial importance to early game fe12. Society moment. But yeah, it was cool pf Kaga to redo fe1 for a sequel so people can start FE on the SNES with actual battle stat display and an inventory, but nowadays you're either playing fe11 or fe1 for the sake of seeing how it all began.
  17. XP reminds me of money. I like money. You kill a guy, you earn a lot of their money. Cha ching! That's the best way to view rich people. Money pinatas. I'm never using the word pick ever again. "Oh...Slayde's here. Okay." Yuck. Imagine telling someone that Kaga did something first concerning a remake of his own game. Well she's still a woman If you thought FE1 Maji was hard to use, hoo boy... Then again, I really would like to see Arran gaming across both books. Come on. Dayners. Observo. Joticki even. Help me out here. Wow you don't know fucking anything about this game. NOOOOOO Biraku fans weep.
  18. Ah shit fuck. Guess fe12 ain't my favorite anymore. Shadow Dragon! Oh how I missed you. Kaga really should hire me. I'll try to lessen the severity of his depravity while I'm there, until I'm inevitably turned into a Camus or something.
  19. Urgency. What a genius move by Kaga. He can't stop inconveniencing the player for shits and giggles narrative struggle. Not in the slightest. Corrin is just blindly following Azura's recommendations because they're too stupid to think, but it just so happens to work. In here, as simple as it is, Celica was basically made to see Alm supposedly get nearly killed by a seemingly endless barrage of necro-dragons. She's given a choice of whether to keep waiting for Alm to inevitably fall (although in gameplay you would eventually reach lvl 20 and your weapons don't break), or to do what he says because it's the only other way (it can't be turn 4 to kill him if there's no battle sequence lmao gottem). It basically boils down to "you have to or he dies" and in a game where there's an extremely forced romance, it'd be odd to not do it. If the game wanted to be cool, it'd have him ask you to give up, and each time you said no, it'd spawn more dragons. They'd get harder. Eventually, the player will realize "I can't do this" and that would be Celica's worry of Alm dying from the endless series of dragon fights. It's not a grand vision or any great design on Kaga's part, but it works well enough, and it far exceeds the garbage that SoV does. "Celica! Don't do the thing!" "I will do the thing" *everyone but Celica gets thrown in* "It's Kaga time!" *ensue forced premonition chapter* It pisses me off everytime. So pointless! A very bad scene. I remember finding it genuinely cool that you can walk around endgame as a room here, having to walk up to Judah. I dunno. Something about that is just cool to see in FE. He got you good, and at least Celica herself gets to be trapped with her companions instead of being the lone dumbass that gets everyone else in trouble. Maybe they shoulda given at least one sentence to Celica during this, but if SoV taught me anything, Celica is best when she shuts the fuck up. In here, she has to do this, for Alm. While she doesn't say anything, the implication is that she's willingly sacrificing herself for Alm knowing that Judah wants her dead. Alm needed her to do this, and now she needs him to finish off the job. In SoV, she hopes that the satan man is actually nice, and now we get an unnecessary hypno Celica moment that lasts 20 seconds for the most pointless premonition feature and it makes Celica look even weaker and more helpless than she already was. She wanted to do this hoping that Alm wouldn't have any more troubles and just go home or some shit. Maybe Mila will just wake up and everything will be happy. Even if it is the same idea that SoV Alm needed Celica to submit to proceed, the presentation of this is awful with how gullible it makes Celica look during this whole ordeal, and the fact that ALL of her companions are yelling at her to NOT do this only makes it all worse. I won't say much else for now, but she's not purely waiting. Again, I'm not defending this as anything grand. It's super basic and cliche, but it's miles ahead of SoV. I'm only repeating the same 2 points because of just how flabbergasted I am at how badly SoV managed to screw up such a basic premise and made something WORSE than an NES fantasy hero trope. A good gaiden map is a slightly under average FE1. I'm losing it. I never knew the game had turn limits. I have the best idea. No more women! There can't be any Celicas to rage over or Edelgards to hate/simp for if they just don't exist. I'm a genius! And anything else in this game is? It's something. When you're playing Gaiden, you get desperate to praise anything that isn't green or brown. Me when people sound different: He can't keep getting away with this! If only FE12 got rid of that. I'd be a happier bone. Instead, SoV opted to ADD more to it. What the fuck. Would you like me to assist you? Sometimes, it simply has to end in "you get saved". It's not strictly forbidden to have. Preferrable if handled better, but not a warcrime to have in your game, especially in the 90's. Can't say I expected Celica to seismic toss Judah to the bottom floor of Doma tower and solo endgame while she then goes on to save Alm herself, even if that would be bloody hilarious. After what was obviously her saving Alm through making it here, opening the gate, and being forced to jump down the die hole, she did her part to do what Alm presumably couldn't have done on his own, and now he will help by making it to her and not letting her die this hard fought battle she worked so hard to get to. In SoV, even though it's technically the same from a gameplay perspective, they put an un-needed emphasis on her being extremely gullible, and way too many scenes of her being in trouble to which she needs direct help. Get trolled lmao Mega based.
  20. I do love me some bows. And axe fighters. Warrior class? Splendid.
  21. Wow the post looks all fucky. That isn't Valbo. Instead of very mid endgames, you get very Gaiden gaidens, which is honestly also mid, because at least it's not desert or swamp. For an endgame, it checks out for the game it's in. This was the part of the game that provides the ultimate challenge. For your nintendo pc. That speed emulation was going crazy here for me. Those necro dragons have such slow animations, and I got like, 30 of these encounters. Somehow better than SoV. At least we didn't have a stupid ass Sirius wannabe and co yell at your stupidity before entering the bad room, with a scene back at the lost woods where you basically shadow call Alm just to admit that you're in the wrong instead of being the saint in Alm's conquest. Least this can be chalked up to "you tried confronting the baddie, but he trapped you" which fits more here based off of how act 5 goes. But Kaga clearly would prefer the remake's Celica for what happens next. Wow people here really don't like this archetype. I never think too hard on it. A meme unit boss kill is a meme unit boss kill. But you will use Mei letter I can't be bothered to input, right? Right? You hate me cuz you ain't me. I don't take criticism from people who can't do it better. Now do my thing Ruben. Can he just stick to what makes FE good? Normally I tend to go on about how bad plots are more entertaining than the lack of one, but in this case, I'll gladly take this nothing burger over SoV. We Americans don't make mistakes. We blow them up. Me playing Gaiden. You completely changed the entire point of my statement to turn a joke into a boring "I don't know things" relatable comment. I weep. In fairness, it was a crappy joke, but this is just insulting... I think I already argued some of what you're hinting at just now, but at least what happens in FE2 isn't directly "listening" to him. Fuck SoV man. I do think there's some disgusting Zelda 2 esque charm to the Duma tower in FE2, especially with act 5, as dumb as it can be, but it's still Gaiden maps at the end of the day. Some maps are...unique, at least. But a few are just actual garbage.
  22. In an ideal world, we'd be seeing 30 defense Valbo. There is no god who will aide you now. Gaiden is a godless creation. Finally! At this rate, I can't even trust Gnip to kill Mystery Medeus with Arran. Well, my Atlus was able to absently destroy Judah, but I suppose act 4 was literally me solo'ing most things with him. Most of Celica's og team was entirely "benched" by now with Kamui and 1 or 2 fliers being useful. Think my Celica was also pretty busted. I remember thinking this Judah was a joke to kill in Gaiden cuz I didn't have to plan out 4th hits like in SoV. Just rush in the moment turn 4 hits and I won. A shame I didn't do the killing blow with Valbo. He was working on those eyes. Wait, Alm can use swords? Wait she only got 4 speed now? Damn, how shitty was this lass? Sounds almost as terrible as story SoV Celica. Kaga likes showing mercy in the strangest ways. I'll take it over just being thrown in a dark pit with no light source. Actually, he'd totally do that. Not too uncommon for an LP methinks. But yes, you do say too much. Just sit back and let me do your thing. "I hate Three Houses." There. That was easy. I could run your account and no one could tell us apart. But come on, everyone knows this both from SoV and Awakening. It's an IntSys favorite, for whatever fucking reason. something something Roy joke
  23. I've only played the game once. Perhaps I was simply lucky. Or more likely, I'm good at Lithis'ing. Turns out I'm the world's worst Asbel user. Dude was awful for me. Ronan was S tier. Olwen was mid. Salem laughs. Sadly, I haven't used Marty and I didn't do B rout for Shanam. I'll totally use them next time. Seriously, Asbel was so bad. Bro was on 0% growths mode, and he had SCROLLS ON! I enjoyed using my staves to destroy the enemy frontlines while charging with my capped army. But I simply feel too disgusting to warp skip. I'm not a casual. Thracia is very loveable for trying the most outlandish things that you'd see recognized in those 2 hour video essays about obscure indie games with small details that appease to the average autistic gamer's mind. It's funny seeing AI's purposely dumb'd down in specific moments to show them playing dumb to buy time or set up an ambush. It's great visualizing the desperation of Thracia's gorilla warfare through your army having to loot off defeated foes while the enemy cling to any chance they got to survive through getting weapons through any means necessary, including capturing your own units. Gameplay features that integrate into the world building of FE5 are not just exclusive gameplay features made only for the player to strategize with. It's a necessity for survival, and it's also how the enemy would presumably attempt to interrogate your army regarding you. This is also accompanied by permanent status staves and pitch black fog. Thanks FE5. At least you can take said staves to meme them right back. In other words, IT REALLY MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE SHOUZOU KAGA!!
  24. Bro is terrible at Lithis'ing Half of the fun in Thracia for me was how I could just steal everything. Almost made me feel like I was cheating getting all those chapter 9 lances or straight up yoinking master lances, leaving lategame bosses with nothing to fend themselves with. Then again, you don't actually play the lategame, do you? Most dedicated Thracia fan. You cannot. If you drop them, they disappear. If you capture units you're meant to keep alive for later recruitment or other scenarios (such as Shiva in 2x), be sure to NOT drop them after taking their stuff, or they'll basically be classified as dead. Simply grab the killing edge, then seize the map while he's still on you.
  25. I used to like Pokémon, but I think I just grew out of it as I got into FE instead. Not really an era where I liked both. Honestly, now I'd need random growths in Pokémon that increase stats by 1 over whatever the heck EV's are to enjoy Pokémon again. FE feels really fun and replayable with the large casts, growths that can make or break how good or bad a unit is, and I end up caring about each individual increase in most given stats, thinking carefully about distributing stat boosters, how I want to forge certain weapons, what weapons to bring for the sake of effective weaponry or item preservation. It is a strategy game after all. Pokémon though is just having 1 v 1's most of the time so just have the correct type matchup and you win. When I level, I gain stats. I dunno what stats, but it doesn't really matter because it's Pokémon. It's a kids game, although I'd appreciate difficulty choice to incentive strategizing your team to balance out potential problems you could have against certain matchups given that Nintendo knows that this game is played by millions of all ages. Even then, 1 v 1 style combat just feels like I have to outdamage them and spam a potion every other turn if they're strong unless I'm actively banning mid battle items. Most fun I can have is just a self imposed no items challenge with a ban of certain metas and just trying out very peculiar "builds", but most of that feels like a pointless effort to bring fun into something I simply don't enjoy anymore. If I wanna play a more pure rpg game with catchable monsters and type advantages, I'd honestly just play SMT (you may laugh now). There's a lotta Pokémon, but it certainly isn't as eye catching regarding replay value as people with personalities...sometimes, and different growths, supports, and general experience with using units you aren't familiar with. I imagine that the plethora of FE fans who are still Pokémon fans find similarity in that Pokémon technically also have a kind of growth rate, starting stats, and types that would split up your choices for who of what type to have in your team (which water mon do I pick vs which archer do I train?), but I suppose it simply feels more clean and natural to work with when it comes to the FE formula. I like overthinking natures in Pokémon, but that's about it. Truth be told, I could tl;dr all this as "I'm tired of jrpg's" and leave it at that. It's true. I still love rpg, but specifically as a subgenre. By that I mean shooter rpg's (Fallout NV, Mass Effect 1), SRPG (what do you think?), stuff like that. I find stuff like Pokémon to be boring nowadays, even if we're ignoring the fact that a lot of that is likely from the games being too easy for an adult because duh. Personally, I don't see the appeal of the game from the perspective of an FE fan. I loved playing Pokémon mindlessly as a child using the same 3 things to steamroll the game and would've likely hated FE (except maybe Awakening), but now I love FE and can't bring myself to pick up a Pokémon game anymore. I think Pokémon was made to be mindless, and tryna make it super hard through mods just reveals how shallow the gameplay feels, at least for me. Yeah, I can try focusing on all the details and strategize my team, but now I'm just tryna not get one shot and insta kill them with type advantages while spamming revives without any clear plan that isn't knowing the boss's entire team by heart because I sure ain't gonna focus on the nitty gritty stats like in FE and there's only so much I can do with that without going getting a doctor's degree in EV's (i don't even know if that's what it's called). Yes I posted this just to rant on popular thing. Unlucky.
