  1. I thought Thor was thoroughly (hurhur) mediocre (i've heard Thor 2 massively ups the cheese factor, so i need to see that), Capt America was decent, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 1+3 were great. I also really liked Iron Man 2, more than 3 actually. Amazing Spiderman was pretty damn bad and pales in comparison to the Raimi films, and Ghost Rider 2 (1 was entirely boring) was half extremely entertaining and half extremely uninteresting.
  2. They don't appear again, so if you SerenesForestHyperLTCSpamWarpTM Marth to the village, they'll leave instantly, but the time I played it they actually fought my army. They still retreat, but its still a great thing to see considering that they allied with you just a year ago, and they're unconvincible this time around.
  3. While I agree that it does add a bit more to the the first three's characters, their appearances in the original really added to the game's theme of the moralities of allegiance and the fragility of bonds, while also really strengthening Roshea's character, moreso than in the remake. So while they aren't as depthful (except for Roshea, who I would argue is moreso than in the remake) as in New, they left a much bigger impact than they did when they were recruitable.
  4. Would you consider the allowance of their recruitment to be an improvement than when they (bar Roshea) unrecruitable?
  5. Wait what? Thor? The film that had so many dutch angles that you had to angle your head for 80% of the film and a love story between two cardboard boxes has good direction? Cynicism aside, I'm in agreement that the whole MLP thing doesn't really have any significant impact on gender roles at all. It's a (I'm assuming since i've never seen the show myself) well written and animated show. What makes MLP different from other younger audience oriented shows like Avatar, Rocko's Modern Life, BAS, etc? Is it because its intended primarily for girls? Then what makes it different from every Disney princess movie ever being enjoyed by not-young girls? What is unique about this show that challenges gender roles and stereotypes akin to something like Boys Don't Cry? Because having a massive fanbase of all demographics does nothing but signify that it's a quality-made show.
  6. Walhart and MU's convos are actually some of my favorite in the game (easily the best spotpass convo by far) and is great characterization for Walhart, but the interesting premise of the character is marred by a lot of missteps (making the rest of the valm army comically villainous/ridiculous, the exaggerated portrayal of Walhart, etc) that really hurts the only not shit interesting antagonist in the game. There's a lot in Walhart that could make for a truly fantastic character comparable to the likes of Alvis, Nergal and Lyon, but this game's tone and direction really hurts the significance of the dude as a whole.
  7. How does Olivia not get all the dudes with that sexy voice, especially :54
  8. Cordelia, Severa, and Olivia form the unholy trinity representative of the terrible little shits that occupy this game.
  9. I wouldn't mind a prequel that focuses more on the Valm continent (I would love to see some more of Walhart when he was younger). The story elements in Awakening for the most part are awful, but then again, Fe7 did fantastic with what it was left with. And good god do not follow the shit support convo structure that Awakening did, please.
  10. Discuss your favorite movie of 2013 and why. For me, it's easily The World's End. It's not only hilariously funny, but it's just downright the best movie I have seen in quite a while. There's so many little touches to the film that elevates it above everything else, and has more to it than just laughs (not to say this is a bad thing, ala Hot Fuzz). It's a film with lots of subtleties and fantastic performances. Not only is it my favorite film of 2013 by far, but it's easily up there with my top 5 movies of all time.
  11. I've seen several better ways that a "please donate" message has been, and could have been written/stated in cases like this. This is really the only one that comes off as downright cynical and scornful towards the recipient. It's the only one that marginalizes the supporter in favor of propping the organization. Not even the SPCA belittles you when you stop donating.
  12. One makes you look like an idiot, and the other makes you look like an idiot who doesn't even trust or appreciate its own group. The level of contempt of the typical political rhetoric and smearing being thrown around does not exponentiate the supposed severity of the issue for me. Both sides look bad/ridiculous for those actions to the others group, but only one of them is also showing disdain for their own supporters.
  13. I'm hard-pressed to considering more examples of Repub vitriol against Dems (a political norm since the founding of the country, and not nearly as ridiculous as it has been in past examples) to be worse than demeaning your own voter group for not living up to the party's expectations of support.
  14. *yes i totally did read all of the op when i first saw this thread* Goodness this just oozes condescension. The other emails i don't really have an issue with since it's the typical political crap, but seeing "and I have to ask: Is this a mistake?" is eurgh bleurgh. Now I want to see someone post a repub version of something akin this so we can keep the "but other side is just as bad" status quo.. And no, just stating that repubs are [better characterized as] callous won't do anything.
  15. HOLY SHIT why did i read this Demoralizing is quite the understatement Chrom feels like an amalgamation of a lot of previous lords, but devoid/stripped of what makes a good number of the previous ones interesting
  16. I enjoy experiencing an Fe game's story (barring lol6andawakening) after some period of time that I've already played it. If I start another playthrough right after (or a short period after) I beat a previous one, I'm going to skip the story for that playthrough for the most part.
  17. Greatly enjoyed the barrel scene (lol@barrel point of view shots) and teh smaug vs bilbo sequence, ending was really anti-climactic and unsatisfying to the point where it diminished the movie for me (no other lotr/hobbit movie had this issue), Legolas has the same face for every emotion he's supposed to convey, love triangle was stupid, and the movie was too long and crowded to the point of tiresomeness, until the Smaug vs Bilbo part. Overall an entertaining, but not great movie. Better than the first hobbit at least.
  18. Damn, I knew I should have voted for the turd sandwich instead of the giant douche.
  19. Yeah I just found out I have to replay every dlc to get it to recognize. Also, not sure how switching sd cards constitutes being an idiot.
  20. I deleted/redownloaded my dlc and now I'm not sure how to get the game to re-recognize the dlc items/skills I have.
  21. I'm actually not hugely disturbed by this, I feel the verdict is more fitting than just throwing a huge number at the kid because of that's how our justice system works. 4 people died, yes, but how is ruining the life of another person under the perception of justice going to assuage this? The issue I have is the process of getting the verdict. Such a shitty excuse of a defense resulting in this, rather than sentences like this being commonplace for, you know, rehabilitory reasons, sets a chilling precedent for getting more sensible verdicts in the future. yeah that 5 month ban was pretty ridiculous
  22. That judge sure has an interesting sense of irony. edit: damnit i should probably read the thread so I would have known someone else already brought this up
  23. @bearclaw i do extremely vaguely recall saying that I thought Libra was a touch above the rest of the chars, I'll have to go back and look at some of his convos to see exactly why i did @Viewtiful your response to Duels at Dawn says everything that needs to be said. The only thing I feel I could add is that you seem completely oblivious to the fact that 13's gameplay is an active hindrance to its storytelling, not a complement. The fact of the matter is that so few games fully utilize what games as an art medium have the potential to do, so it's rather pointless discussing the few games that do excellently meld gameplay and storytelling (Spec Ops is probably the best game in regard to this). I would love to discuss Fe5 all day and how it meshed gameplay and story nicely, but remember, we're talking about Fe13, a game that has no qualms with harming its storytelling if it means adding something to the gameplay. We can't use the standards that games like Fe5 or Spec Ops set (as a game) because it's infinitely above the level 13 (and even 7-10) is at. There is no reason for you to look down on everyone else because we compare and contrast differing games' stories via its quality of writing.
  24. When I say story I include everything that's relevant to a narrative, ie characters, support convos, etc alongside the plot. So yeah, I find everything storywise in 13 to be lacking, not only just the plot
