  3. I made a patch for FE6 that changes the chapter 5 shop to have Flux, Lightning, Chest Keys, and Door Keys. All other shops are the same. Apply it to a Japanese FE6 ROM. The below patch includes the numbers patch I created because that's how I usually play the game.   4. Well, its large cast makes FE6 the most appealing to randomize for me personally, so I might just do this myself. I'll also add in Flux and Lightning (in case you get Bishop Marcus) while I'm at it, I guess.
  5. Gonna have to throw in a vote for greater variety in class randomization for female characters. I don't really mind if they're restricted to their original gender for classes like Mage or Cleric, but the potential for hilarity with classes like brigand and fighter are simply too great to ignore. Also wouldn't mind if male characters could become dancers. I have another couple of ideas/requests. I apologize for the number of requests, but I really see this utility as potentially bringing all new life into these games. It's made my new FE6 run exciting and fun for the first time in a long while. -To make playthroughs without thieves less painful, maybe door and chest keys could be added to all or most shops. -Maybe there could be an option that makes it so all promotable classes can promote with all promotion items. Alternatively, all promotion items could be combined into one. This would make it so that players wouldn't necessarily be completely screwed over if they end up with a team of 90% magic-using classes or something. -Somewhere down the line, could bosses potentially be added to the list of random recruitment characters, and normally playable characters added to the list of boss characters? This could potentially increase the craziness. Current status in my current FE6 playthrough: Roy: Shaman Bors: Bard Allen: Bard (love the abusability of having two bards) Marcus: Swordmaster (YESYESYES) Wolt: Myrmidon (awesome!) Lance: Knight (not so awesome...) Lot: Brigand Wade: Mage Deke: Mage Shanna: Archer (with a poison bow and longbow, hell yeah!) Elen: Shaman Chad: Mercenary The first boss was a Roy Lord... This is quite awesome and I can see myself randomizing the GBA FE games to keep them fresh for years.
  6. Holy cow, this looks amazing. Looking forward to seeing this develop further! A few requests: -Semi-randomized starting inventories so that characters come with items they can use (is this already part of it? haven't tested it yet) -Would it be possible to add in classes not present in other games? (for example, monsters, monks, Hector lords, etc. in FE6, Kings in FE7, etc.) I'm gonna try this with FE6 as soon as I can.
  7. Chad: Ahhh, thanks! That'll be something for v1.1 for sure! As for the chapter 17 issue, I guess it must be the chapter title, in which case it's been fixed. I'm just not sure what else it would be. Turtleman579: Thanks for the detailed post. I feel I may have made too general of a blanket statement. What I probably should have said is: Adherence to specific names or renditions isn't too important, especially when the base is a fan translation.
  8. Because naming conventions are different in Japan and English-speaking countries and things that sound cool/exotic to Japanese people may sound lame/common to native English-speakers. Even if planned ahead of time, what the name specifically is has very little bearing on the overall plot. Did Ruthea being changed to Lucius make you enjoy FE7 any less? Did Cougar being changed to Cormag significantly change your experience of FE8? Did Muddy being changed to Mordecai negatively affect your playthrough of FE9? One thing I've noticed with the characters Debias and Gheb is that, as fat characters, their names seem to be warpings of the Japanese word for fat (debu). It would have probably been more accurate in the English version, actually, to change their names to something that gives that impression to an English-speaker.
  9. If you want to update, I would indeed recommend restarting. You can try to update to the newest version and see what happens, but keep a backup of your save file. Personally, the more I've translated games, the more I've realized how little names actually matter for the most part. Fire Emblem fans are really REALLY weird about their worship of particular renditions of names.
  10. This is a problem with a widely distributed pre-patched version of the ROM. It shouldn't be an emulator issue. My biased advice: patch the ROM with the latest version of the new translation patch, which has no issues like this.   11. Well, you could download older versions and check the document in the most recent file against them. Not the most intuitive method, I know. :P Cecilia has received some pretty notable growth boosts. She still has the same bases, though. Her stat focuses are more on Mag and physical durability (relatively speaking) than Clarine.

  13. Ah, it must be because v1.0 of the localization patch moves some stuff around. I patched it successfully with the UPS version so it must be the order. Thanks for pointing this out, Lowell! I'll edit the first post when I get home.
  14. It's a mistake to assume that a certain word will always be translated into another certain word (unless it's a game term or a specific item name or something). This is simply NOT how translation works. A certain One Piece fansubber famously made this error because the word "nakama" couldn't be translated the same way all the time.
  15. You know, I've always thought the Virtual Console was a good opportunity to localize and release previously unreleased games, so I want to believe there's a chance. Still, Mother 1 did indeed already have a finished localization, so I can't realistically hope for old FE games any time soon. If Mother 1 does exceptionally well? Then maybe...
  16. Hmmm, so the name of the sword and the title are different, and they essentially mean the same things. That's a real pain in the butt. Thanks for the info, though! I'm not sure what to do with SSB names now... I want names and such to be as official as possible, but SSB has a muddy track record with translation consistency. I guess I'll just put it off and continue waiting for the next FE games. :P If we implement "Sword of Seals" into the game, I think it'll take a little creative rewriting in a few places to make it seem like it fits, so it'd be more than just a quick fix. Note that if we do implement "Sword of Seals," I guess "Rutoga" is in as well. I thought the character count might be an issue, but I tested it and truncating the name like we've already done with Binding Bld seems to juuuuust fit so at least that's not an issue.

FE6 Numbers Patch v1.2.0 â– About this Hack The Numbers Patch makes numerous adjustments to the numeric values in FE6 to make it a little closer in feel to FE7, which I think deals with the issues a lot of new players have with the game. With the release of version 1.2.0 of the localization patch, I've redone this patch as well. I have cleared the game multiple times on hard mode and found it no harder than the original version. What is Changed? Ambush spawns now spawn at the start of the player turn in most cases (not in trial maps). Chapter 21 reinforcements now spawn at set turns. Raigh, Hugh, and chapter 13 Perceval now have hard mode bonuses (not Douglas though because iono) Added a few promotion items to the first 3/4 or so of the game for players to steal to create some more flexibility in viable team compositions Numeric values have been adjusted to make various characters more viable or appealing. Changed most item stats to their FE7 values Adjusted throne/gate avoid/def values The Rapier, Horseslayer, and Halberd are now effective against Nomads, Nomad Troopers, Troubadours, and Valkyries The Rapier, Armorslayer, and Hammer are now effective against Zephiel Changed class caps to FE7's values (had to estimate in a couple cases) The critical bonus of Swordmasters and Berserkers was reduced to 15 as in FE7 Numerous other tweaks: the Fighters often succeeded in killing Echidna before the player could act so they have been changed to Soldiers; Galle and his troops now attack the player normally; Perceval has a Spear in chapter 13 to reward the player for getting so far so fast; Barthe comes with an Axeslayer to help him or other Knights in the following chapters; Zelot, Trec, and Noah join a little later so Marcus and the Cavaliers are not necessarily required to save Trec in hard mode; Thea will join the player army instead of becoming an allied green unit if spoken to with Shanna after recruiting Klein; and other small adjustments here and there Apply to an UNPATCHED FE6 ROM. Please DO NOT apply any translation patches after patching with this (the localization patch is included).
