  1. He can't counter with bows. Yes, there exists situations where that won't matter, but sticking to lances, he doesn't have to hit & run away as often, or fear that terrible enemy phase inefficiency that all bow users share.
  2. Too lazy to read through the thread but: Oscar- axes Kieran- lances Astrid- axes Makalov- axes Any other choice is demonstrably inferior.
  3. Check your facts (the site even provides them). Silencer is crit/2%, and crit itself is unaffected by luck.
  4. One cruel thing about FE5's RNG is that the enemy is guaranteed to have 1 hit on you even if you have more avo than they have hit (you also only have up to 99 hit IIRC). Maybe this applies to critical rates as well, at which point all you can hope for is that scrolls start showing up soon. Well yeah, basically. Without a funds rank, you are free to spend about 3x as much money as with it, so the impact of costing 50gs for a promotion has decreased by precisely such a factor, perhaps even moreso if you have more money than you can fathom spending at certain points.
  5. Even if a certain character's luck is low, chances are they have a supporter who gives crit evade. Plus, some of the tankier characters in the game can absorb a critical, especially if it's eg/ a slim lance peg.
  6. Yeah yeah, I know. It's kinda difficult to explain why averages are valid measuring tools in a comparison when youtube only gives me 500 characters to work with >_>
  7. I discussed this with Mekkah at length. According to him, Marcus is the best unit in the hardest part of the game, earlygame, and he never really falters as the game goes on due to enemy stat progression being so slow. Then, once killer weapons become buyable, he's either on par with your other units offensively or only slightly behind them.
  8. The game congratulates you, want a cookie? I’m aware of that, but without funds, getting the silver card and certain other goodies has much less of an impact. Since his positioning is so heavily dependant on funds and exp ranks, he’d be one of the units subject to a sizeable drop in a non-ranked list.
  9. Actually I'm pretty sure he just deletes every comment he doesn't like. I've already received "pending approval" on my messages, which I didn't have before. Heh, might do.
  10. Never mind what I said before, this guy is hilariously stupid. Here's another joyride: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciHBgleukng...re=channel_page Maybe my messages will get through to him.
  11. Based on the pics: -Roy looks good. -Drop Lilina. 8 spd near promotion is fail considering she doesn't have above average def or anything. -Oujay, Geese, Rutger, Dieck and Chad look good. -Consider dropping Fir due to str issues. She could counteract that with massive crit, but you'd definitely want her to be supported if she's relying on crit to get kills. -Use Saul for healing whenever you have a slot free. -Drop Noah and Wolt. -Gonzales is having his usual crap skl, so if he's having hit rate issues, drop him. -Definitely toss Lot and Ward. -Treck is kinda borderline. -Miledy looks good. -That's a surprisingly good Dorothy, maybe consider using her for maps with high deployment. -Drop Wendy. -Tate's not bad, though I'd consider using her mainly for rescuing villages/ferrying/etc. -That's a very nice Clarine. -Drop Ray. -Use Thany and Lugh.
  12. You guys done making fun of an 8 year old ADHD kid on a sugar high who has too much internet access? Exaggerations aside, this level of fanboyism isn't anything new. The only thing interesting about it is he's making videos trying to support his biased opinion.
  13. What value is there in getting “the cool 5-star S-rank screen”? To me at least, that seems as ridiculous a reason to support rankings in tiering than it is to require each unit to finish the game with an even number of kills and an inventory that’s exactly half full. This is just a difference of opinion then. Personally, I’d rather use tiering standards that conform to every FE game, not that rankings should be entirely dismissed from discussion since they offer new and concrete parameters to debate under. However, that also means every individual unit gets less playtime, which really screws up the possibility of gaining supports. In fact, some of us believe that supports are almost nonexistent on a ranked run, particularly for odd pairings (healer x thief, cavalier x healer, etc), which would make some rather sizeable shifts in the current ranked lists which assume supports that grow rather quickly. There’s no issue with that. However, people should not automatically assume ranks are in play when making a list, which seems to be the case on most sites I visit. Ok… funds still have a huge impact on the position of Matthew, Dart and Farina, among others, they amplify the value of not needing a promo item (so ppl like Geitz might move down) and decrease the probability of units getting special weapons (hurts ppl like Dorcas who can heavily improve his performance with reaver weapons). I see the effect as being pretty substantial.
  14. Stat boosters, like any aspect of directly related to FE gameplay, is relevant to a tier list. If there were >9000 speedwings available but only 1 energy drop, then that plays heavily in favor of units like Oswin than it would for someone like Lyn. In other words, units with high str and crap spd would have a realistic means of doubling, which would undoubtedly allow them to be superior to units fitting the low str, high spd archetype. Of course, this is a heavily exaggerated example and there's more to a comparison than just str and spd, but you get the point.
  15. Hmm well there’s a lot of lists to consider. Mekkah posted this one on page one: Then apparently Reikken has this one: And on FEP Mekkah had a topic on FEP concerning non-ranked runs and gave the following list:
  16. Whether you consider it arbitrary or not, most of what we measure through a tier list is through inequality, so having a set measuring bar is not required. Instead of saying Kent is 12% more efficient than Isadora in helping the combat rank, we just state he has better combat parameters and leave it to interpretation how significant his offensive leads are. Similarly, we could say Kent’s mobility lead vs Wallace would let him be more beneficial towards tactics, but again we only need to interpret the significance of the lead, not quantify it to “saving x amount of turns” or something. Think of it this way: you’re comparing units based on how well they promote efficient playstyles. Ranks don’t have anything to do with this, though even assuming ranks, a unit who’s helping lower your turn count well below the max turn count limit is giving you more flexibility in how you carry out your playstyle. Considering that, can’t you see how ranks are completely removable in terms of measuring a unit’s worth, and how it can even be a hindrance in doing so? For instance, Raven being good for the exp rank is meaningless since there’s nothing to be gained from the act of growing a unit if ranks didn’t exist. The fact that Raven would level up faster compared to Marcus is already accounted for in comparisons.
  17. Heh I have an idea that might help make this process more accurate. With codebreaker, I could set any given character to average stats with a certain amount of supports and whatnot in a chapter and upload a savestate. That way, people could play a chapter in the context of an efficient playthrough and could extrapolate from their personal experience in those circumstances of what they think of those characters. That, backed with the average stats of the PCs and the enemies of that chapter seems like a rather foolproof way of covering the later chapters which may cause difficulty in theorycrafting. The main issue would be in the level estimates themselves. One would have to account for units with better stats getting more enemy phase exposure, but also account for exp degradation when levelling faster than others (eg/ Franz vs Neimi). Moreover, it can be considered an ideal approach to baby a unit immediately as a lesser negative than having inferior performance over time, so that would likely be neglected. Then of course promotional issues would be hard to deal with, and possibly some other things I'm not anticipating. Thoughts?
  18. Well tbh it depends on circumstance. For instance, if Forde is supporting Kyle and both are taking a 7 mov unit as their B, then it would be sensible to make them go GK since Forde wants axes to improve his fairly average attack power. However, If you have a Franz-Seth-Forde triangle going, you definitely want Forde to be a paladin so he can keep up with his partners.
  19. What's your point? I spent 343 turns on Gallia once getting Mist promoted, but that has nothing to do with how useful she is under more normative circumstances. Using this type of wanton abuse could make any unit in the game powerful, so this certainly isn't somehow unique to Rolf.
  20. Consider how huge Reikken's extension was, then I can hardly refuse to give his opponent one.
  21. If Oliver is the McDonalds of beauty, then Valtome is Burger King. Irresistible ;)
  22. Only because the mirror wouldn't be worthy of such a majestic, divine image and would thus crumble in shame.
  23. There clearly is no way to transcend Oliver's aesthetic appeal. QED
