As the door opens, Sternblade, Stella and Tamara rush forward, while the civilians stream toward the gate. Almost immediately after, you see a group of creatures have noticed you, and many begin shambling your way. The foremost creatures are about 30 feet from you.

OOC: Combat has begun, I'm not sure if Rothene is still around, but if you are, just post and I'll slot you in the order, I'm just trying to avoid delays.

Initiative:

Stella 21

Dwayne 18

Creatures 12

Sternblade 10

Tamara 5

Matthis

A bright ray shoots from Stella's hand, catching one of the creatures in the chest, and filling the night air with the stench of burning flesh. The creature recoils momentarily, but seems to recover despite the massive burn mark marring its torso.

Dwayne kneels at the front of the crowd, then prepares and lets loose an arrow.

Dwayne looses an arrow, striking the same creature Stella had targetted, piercing its torso near the waist, and bringing it to the ground.

OOC: Dwayne's damage with a composite longbow is 1d8+1 usually, but also don't forget your +1 for point blank shot (and remember you can use rapid shot if you want). I rolled a d8 but it was still a one, not that it matters.

Matthis spent most of the short walk staying at the back of the crowd. It was not cowardice that prevented him from taking the lead, but with true men like Sternblade, streetwise fellows like Damios to spot for danger, and magical expertise from someone such as Stella all ahead of the civilians, the paladin thought it more prudent for him to watch the rear, less any innocent fall prey to ambush and the sort.

Now that battle called, he was honour bound to not shirk away from fulfilling his duties of ridding the world of undead scum.

"Let me pass so that I may aid our protectors," Matthis said as he made his way through the crowd to aid the rest of the combatants.

Sternblade's sword slashes through the air, ripping open the rotting flesh of one of the creatures, though amazingly it remains upright.

OOC: Rothene, I put Matthis in after Damios and Tamara.

Seeing the zombies make their way towards the other group, Damios equipped his bow. Taking aim at one of the zombies in the back, he drew and fired.

Roll to hit:

5+5=10

I doubt that hit but I'll roll damage anyway

Roll to damage:

3+2=5

Tamara rushes forward and cuts at the creature Sternblade struck.

1d20+3; 2d4+1 → [6,3] = (9)

1d20+3; 2d4+1 → [2,3,1] = (6)

Damios fires an arrow toward the zombies, but the shaft misses its mark and speeds off into the night. As Tamara steps forward, she swings her scythe at one of the creatures, only to find her scythe cleaving the air as the creatures swayed gently out of its path.

Matthis walks forward, trying his best to position himself in such a way that the enemies would have to walk around him to even consider getting close to less well armoured comrades. Stepping in place, the paladin let loose a swift swing with his warhammer followed by a shield bash for good measure against a different target from the one Sternblade struck. Matthis did not want to risk stealing the kill from the warrior.

9+3 = 12(Warhammer total hit roll)

6+3= 9(Shield total hit roll)

3+2=5(Bludgeoning damage from warhammer)

3+1=4(Bludgeoning damage from shield)

Matthis retains shield bonus due to Improved Shield Bash feat.

Matthis swings his warhammer toward one of the creatures, slamming his hammer into its side with an audible squelch. His shield swings just shy of his target however.

Stella jumped backwards to put some distance between her and the incoming pack. She took a quick glance at the civilians streaming into the door Damios opened. It'll take a while before all of them get in... and I'm almost out of spells for the night. This should keep the monsters busy...

Stella then looses a huge ball of blue fire upon the enemies.

1st round

Damage: 2d6→[4,2]=(6)

OOC: did I have to do the hit roll for all 3 rounds of the spell's duration?

Dwayne releases two arrows at the mob in succession, as Stella's flame sweeps before him.

[spoiler=-2 from rapid shot, +1 point blank]first hit roll: 5 + (6-1) = 10

damage roll: 2

second hit roll: 2 + (6-1) = 7

damage roll (durf): 4

"I doubt the crowd's done, but must we stand here forever? I'll have to surrender my hatchet to their faces if they keep pushing."

He's concentrating on moving quickly too much to comfortably look back.

As Stella's blazing sphere materializes, it ignites one of the creatures touching it and the creature collapses. Meanwhile, Dwayne fires off two arrows, but he seems unable to hit a target in the darkness.

OOC: Flaming sphere doesn't require a hit roll, enemies just get a chance to roll a saving throw against it. Also theoretically you roll for damage each round, after moving the ball or whatever.

Two of the creatures swing their rotting limbs toward Sternblade, though only one of them manages to connect, bruising the warrior. Another creature strikes Tamara, but its blow is deflected by the Cleric's armor. As the creatures attack, their brethren surge forward, attempting to surround the forward group, though avoiding the flaming sphere positioned in front of Stella. It seems a large number of the civilians have managed to pass through the gate, probably more than half.

OOC: 4 damage on Sternblade.

Sternblade looks over to where the citizens are.

"Just a while longer...! We can only distract these creatures for a bit more, before we are killed! Make haste, civilians!"

He then attacks one of the things.

OOC:

Hit: 16 + 7 = 23

Damage: 3 + 2 = 5 + 5 = 10

Sternblade swings his sword toward the creature in front of him, decapitating it, before swinging his sword around to hit another, slicing it across the chest.

OOC: You hit and killed one, so I rolled for your Cleave attack.

Tamara winces to see Sternblade's injury, but keeps hacking away at the one he cleaved into regardless.

(7 hit, 5 damage)
