Awakening's rating?

Note that God Hand is a bad example. There was a decapitation attack added in the English release and likely would have gotten a T without it. MegaTen are also bad examples for their highly religious nature. Samurai Shodown and the MGS thing I got no idea.

I'm also under the impression a lot of publishers WANT a T rating over an E or at least don't care enough to negotiate it, as it doesn't impose restrictions on who it can be sold to (similar to the stigmata a G rating carries).

I doubt Awakening will get higher than a T, even if they don't cut n_n calling her dad a pedophile

There's NO WAY a Fire Emblem game will get an M rating.

Only if it has excessive gore, violence, sexual content, other stuff you can find on a Rockstar game.

Seriously. FE13 will only have T rating or the equivalent of it.

What do you mean in particular? The ratings seem all pretty reasonable to me.

Different cultures, different values. Simple as that.

And sometimes those other values and cultures are just wrong. I mean look, they rated one of those fucked up SMT games with an A! AN ALL AGES RATING!!

That's like a Grand Theft Auto game being rated E by the ESRB (or 3+ by PEGI)! How would you feel about that?!

The CERO B/ESRB M examples don't exactly paint a rosy picture of them either...

I actually don't think the CERO rating for SMT: Nocturne was good because there is some legitimately disturbing stuff in that game. I wouldn't let a 7 year old play it for instance. Granted I think the M rating is overboard, but whatever.

There's no universally-accepted definitive holy guidance to back that.

Any who I have to agree sometimes things are under rated: things are also over rated, to the point of being banned *cough cough* mortal combat & portal in Australia *cough*.

Considering there's a GTA game that's actually rated AO, what you're saying is flat out impossible.

1) Yes, San Andreas WAS rated AO. WAS. The AO copies were recalled and the second edition is officially rated M. So that doesn't count anymore.

2) There are at least THREE installments in the series with a "mere" T rating from the ESRB so by the logic it should be easy to outdo GTA.

3) Even if that held there would still be at least two different ways that SMT could be "worse" than GTA rating-wise:

a) They're both AOs but SMT is a "worse" AO. You don't have to have a higher rating to be worse, after all.

b) GTA gets an AO rating but SMT is banned outright. AO isn't the top of the top.

So no, that's not valid.

To be fair, a lot of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne's horror is subdued, and requires you to understand some quite mystic topics. A seven or so year old probably wouldn't pick up on the worst of it. A is probably too low though, as there's still some obviously graphic horror. Saying that it's worse than GTA is just stupid.

The EU rating gave it a 12+, which I think is fair enough.

I actually have very specific for saying it's worse than GTA, in case you're wondering.

And the Euro rating is 12+?! Fucking hell! Facepalm_emote_gif.gif

Then please give that case. Because right now, you just sound unreasonable.

Y'know, if you're just going to highlight one part of my post, and ignore the rest, then there's really little point talking to you.

I had no response to the points I didn't reply to, what do you wantme to do, throw out meaningless placeholder responses to those or something?!

But I agree with Ein. This derailment has gone far enough. If you want to make a seperate thread in another forum, then we can discuss this there.

Maybe.

Do you even play the stuff you complain about?

APPARENTLY you don't.

Of course I fucking didn't! Do you really think I'd go "Oh gee, this game's gonna deeply offend and enrage me, I'll buy it! :B"

That point is invalid anyway, I don't NEED to play it. Same reason I couldn't get on your case if you complained about GTA depicting murder and vehicular crime without playing any installment of the series.

Crash, did you have these same complaints about Radiant Dawn?

Because in Radiant Dawn, the good guys fight alongside the in-universe equivalent of Satan, against the in-universe equivalent of God.

And it got an E10+ ESRB rating.

Nope, not really.

Maybe it makes me a little uncomfortable but it's fictional and clearly not a representation of any real life religion like the bullshit in SMT.

So, wait.

Awakening has SMT themes?

I so can't wait to kill every religious icon ever. Are they DLC?

No?

Go PM each-other, or something.

Or a FftF thread :D I'd love to see that~

But I mentioned this earlier, would DLC be rated separately from the game (Like displayed on the download screen or something)? Or does the DLC have to follow the main game rating? Or is DLC not rated? lol

btw I want to say I like how the final boss of Xenogears is god. Also I like how the Catholic Church stand in is secretly run by sky nazis and almost everyone in it is a child molester. Really. This is actually a thing.

Game's rated T

If you sum it up like that, then sure, it doesn't make sense at all that its rating is T. The fact is the perception that a player gets does not equate to everything you said. This game all but outright states "Daddy are you a pedophile"

It's one line that's easily changed. I think with Nono/nn, if they work it as a gray area "this is here, but we're not drawing attention to it", it won't cause issues. If borderline incest supports make it into previous installments with a T rating, I don't see why pedophilia wouldn't.

Also, lol religion in video games. You don't see books getting pornography ratings for mangling religion's deities, so why would video games?

Oh hey, have you heard about that new game in Japan, Fire Emblem: Awakening? I heard from a friend of a friend of a friend that it's actually a loli rape simulator and nobody in it wears any clothes at all, especially the little girls, and it somehow got a B rating and is really popular. Now, I've never done any research at all about this monstrous game, and I've certainly never played it, but why would I want to play a loli rape simulator? No, it's just enough to be outraged about something I know nothing about - who needs to back up my position with facts, because I'm obviously already right?

...Right?

My point is do your fucking research before you get all angry. Rage, indignation and bluster are not good substitutes for knowing what you're talking about. Now, an in-depth and researched critique of what exactly is wrong and offensive about SMT? That may potentially be an interesting read and people may be more inclined to hear what it has to say (not saying you should absolutely go write such a thing, though of course feel free).

Also, lol religion in video games. You don't see books getting pornography ratings for mangling religion's deities, so why would video games?

because THINK OF THE CHILDREN (who apparently don't read at all and are the sole audience of teen-and-above-rated video games)
