Probably similar to how many of the other traditions and customs that got integrated into "Christianity" to try to make pagans say "oh, that's just like us, maybe we'll convert" or something. I'm assuming there's a culture out there that did something involving eggs and bunnies and candy and Constantine or someone said "hey look, you are already Christians, we do that too."
