It's only the landing that flopped a bit, in my opinion. There was even some pretty based stuff in Season 4/rest of the manga here and there. My only real gripes with the ending were Historia's treatment (self-proclaimed "worst girl in the world" to preggo on a farm) and the slight personality changes to certain characters like Armin. It's not the ending I would've expected, but I don't think it's particularly bad, personally. Then again, my ideal ending would be my favorite characters surviving instead of being killed off, but whatever. I may check out Akatsuki no Requiem just to see what the fans cooked up.
