Fast-forward to Ultimate, Chrom gets revealed and everyone's cool with it and then Byleth happened, revealed as the last reveal of the first Fighters Pass after all of it had been third party. He is also a massive Street fighter fan. All of which got reps in the DLC. Mercenary work would be like stopping bandits or protecting important people, kinda important stuff, and they just ditched those people. And he wanted to leave at dawn to get there fast, so it was probably urgent. Yet they were just left to their own devices after being promised help. Why? Minor characters from Earthbound are in as spirits, but not one of the most important characters in the series. Jeralt's mercenary company is little more than a plot device to get Byleth to the monastery. They cease to exist in the plot afterwards, becoming nothing more than a nice battalion.
