This is a delight. Though I can see Reuben is posing as Ruben, as the sprite doesn't sport a beard.

Use your imagination and pretend I flipped his hair onto his chin on his sprite too

Okay, Banner Saga 2. I'll start with the positives, because it will be faster this way: I liked the new promotions and abilities. They are nice to mess around with and the training option makes it easy to get them. Ludin is great. Punished Rook also looks really cool.

...

...

And that’s it. Now for the negatives: speaking of Rook, I think his phase as Punished Rook was not well explored. The game starts out interesting, with him apparently suicidal attacking the dredges recklessly. You can tell that Alette's death took a toll on him, but soon afterward it seems that he leaves the mourning phase and goes back to being the normal Rook. Aside from two scenes during the game, I no longer felt the impact I should have.

Fuck Rugga. The guy first appeared as an asshole, threatened Rook, then disappeared the entire game. He only reappeared at the end to try to kill Rook. Twice. Needless to say, I didn't think twice about allying with Meinolf.

I didn't care Bolverk's storyline, and it's his that I have the most criticisms to make. His reason for leaving Rook is idiotic, I don't care about him or his army, and he is the protagonist of the two most frustrating moments for me so far: the snow shoveling and the final battle. They slowed the gameplay to a crawl, at the moment I just wanted everything to be done with.

In the end, Banner Saga 2 just introduced concepts and plot points that aren't explored well (lol centaurs, giant snake and Juno) in an attempt at sequel baiting. Banner Saga 1 at least presented a concise narrative with interesting story beats and emotional moments.

I don't really like to assign an arbitrary number to a work, but 7/10.

Oh, and Rook smashed Oddleif.

Nuzlockes are a matter of game knowledge. Don't go blind, at least have a guide on which pokemon each trainer uses.

For you, yes. I doubt you would want to see a loli drinking gas and turning into a car, let alone with pantyshots.

I take it you don't have dogs that don't care whatsoever for the snow then. I have to clear the backyard, at least somewhat, else they have nowhere to take a dump.

Ah, yes I see.

I actually did do a bit of shoveling in my front yard during the snow storm, though it was mostly for fun and served no practical purpose. As a person who doesn't engage in much physical activity, when it does happen it's actually quite exhilarating, even if my hands hurt like hell the day after.

The only ones I wouldn't really suggest to start with are Gold/Silver/Crystal/HeartGold/SoulSilver (despite being some of the best games in the series they are setup as a sequel to the Kanto games), Black2/White2 (as they are setup as a sequel to Black/White), Diamond/Pearl (Platinum fixed so many things about those games that there is no reason to ever play them over Platinum...)

Don't know if I want to start with one of the best games in the series, especially if that's an incredibly popular opinion. Whenever I get into a series I try to avoid playing the "Best game" since if it does end being the best game then my experience with the series is just all downhill from there.

...It probably doesn't matter that much but still.

This sequence got a chuckle out of me.

Gotta say, i am surprised at how often Josuke and friends are choosing violence. Granted, it's against the Rock Humans, where it's a kill or be killed situation, whereas regular people just get beaten and that's it (assuming there's even a fight to be had, practically every Stand battle in this Part has been less punchy-punch and more about really elaborate traps).

Congrats on finishing Jojolion, man 👍

Dissenting opinion from another Pokemon fan here: Gold/Silver/Crystal are the worst games in the franchise. Although they are prettier than Gen I and don't have the game codes held together by duct tape (Gen I, again), the level curve is awful and the Pokemon distribution is lackluster. You should only play these games if you want to see how the franchise evolved (heh) to the present day.

Heart Gold and Soul Silver didn't do much to fix these problems, and are only held in high regard thanks to some features that are exclusive to it and the extensive post-game. Even then, Platinum has half of it. If you don`t care about it, you can safely skip the game.

Black 2 and White 2 are the best games, though.

Ah, so the opinions are just as diverse as they are in Fire Emblem. Good good, I like that in a franchise.

If that's the case, perhaps I should play the games based on chronological release and make my own opinions on the matter.

Not really, the Pokemon fanbase treats Gen 2 and its remakes as a sacred cow. The opinion that Gen 2 sucks only has traction among nuzlockers. If you're only looking for a casual play, Gen 2 will suit you just fine.

Just play Fire Red or Leaf Green, bro. They are the definitive versions of Kanto. Don't bother with anything before Gen 3, really.

Fixed.

Diamond and Pearl are the second worst, but Platinum is the second best. Also, Pokemon Gold waas literally the first Pokemon game I beat, back when I was only five or six years old, so it has an enormous emotional value to me. The only reason I bought a DS was because I wanted to play the Johto remakes. Even then, I don't turn a blind eye to its faults.

Maybe. It's where I will get answers, isn't it?

Isn't it?

I mean, I think everybody that played the trilogy here preferred 2 to 1, right? You, Parrhresia and Sooks. But it's okay, it's estabilished that Sooks has shit taste.

  Well not yet so far.

Maybe I am underrating it a little, but it is one of his worst encounter, only better than Zubat (and then only because FR doesn't let it evolve into Crobat before the National dex unlocks) and maybe Sandshrew. Sandshrew is just an expensive mon to use thanks to its utterly embarrassing levelup moves, and even digging into the TMs its movepool is still fairly meh.

I've used both in a Gen 3 nuzlocke before and I wouldn't call them stellar. But level up movesets are kinda bad on a surprising amount of older mons in that gen and for some even later gens.

Sandshrew still has more move variety than Pidgey though.

5 hours ago, Eltosian Kadath said:

I just noticed I missed Benice skipping past the buyable Magikarp as well, but I am not sure how he is handling gift mons with his Nuzlocke rules (or if he is banning Gyrados for how incredibly powerful it is).

Looking on the bright side missing the Spearow keeps IO from being rendered instantly redundant, plus I think the possibility of a Mankey encounter there would be more interesting.

Having one to replace the others shouldn't be understated imo. but it'll be more likely he can get a Spearow if he is using dupes than a Mankey.

My fanfics. The most likely reason was when I copy-pasted a big block of text into the Word document. It slowed down Word in its entirety, as other documents also got it. Had to reset the laptop to fix it.

A block so big it shut the lot down.

I hope nothing was lost in the end.

I still think it's doable..... Then again, I barely survived Lance.

But yeah @GuardianSing the first two generations can be skipped. Not to say you can't play them, but later titles are sufficiently improved that if you do go into them expect them to show their age.

Game froze at the booty screen.

In the game's defense, this is the first time anything like this has happened in both runs, and I'm fairly certain accidentally closing the emulator, resuming and then trying to turbo through the loading screen was what caused the crash to happen, not any fault of the game or the emulator.

Still, a bit annoying to have to play the map again. Oh well. No biggie. I'd be heartbroken if this was FE, but in this game it's not as much of a problem.

Nah, my ranking goes 3 > 1 > 2, because the word "agree" does not exist in my dictionary. They're close and I tend to think of them as one game more often than not, but if I absolutely had to rank them, that's how it'd go.

Yeah I was thinking about playing the remakes of the first few titles instead of the originals. Guess I should've clarified that.

My eyes...😖 When you play so much video games your all important vision orbs left aching and practically imoperable for a while.

I took some ibuprofen and it's helping, as it is with the bit of carpal from playing a game with a mouse so much. But after I forced my eyes to bear with the strain of finishing the last few turns of my Emancipation victory, I had to sit down in the recliner and throw a blanket over my head to make it darker. My eyes had to stay shut, they couldn't tolerate ordinary sight, even removed from the view of an electronic screen. I'm pretty sure in a purely hypothetical situation where I was suddenly thrusted into an emergency, a dose of adrenaline wouldn't have brought my eyes back into instant usefulness.

This isn't the first time I overdid it, and although I'm realistic enough to realize it might not be the last.😅 But as reminder, limiting video games to an hour a day is total horse manure. However, if you don't take sufficient breaks, you may need get hit with a hangover. Ibuprofen as I just said is a remedy, but if you're like me, you'll feel guilt at taking something you shouldn't have needed, if only you had more self-control.

Now with three completed matches and two scrapped ones done, I'm very well sated with CivBE ...for the time being. I've already planned out part of the rest of my runs. When I get back to playing it again, I want to do a Contact victory with Slavic Federation for some orbital fun, and then at some point Domination with Brasilia. My plans for the other Sponsors are: Transcendence & African Union (fun with specialists for a change), Promised Land & Polystralia, Emancipation & Al Falah, Contact & Pan-Asian Cooperative, and Domination & North Sea Alliance. Not sure about what I would do with American Reclamation Corporation and INTEGR.
