Yikes. With the new president you'd be arrested on the spot for affiliating with Gang members with that kind of talk.

(Forgot to respond to this) Venezuelan who travels to El Salvador and gets arrested cause he asked where the cholas were at (he was referring to sandals).

When they only pick up stuff that has been popular due to fantranslation and then kill it with their slow AND low quality releases, it is their fault.

Idk. Fanslations don't stop even if a series got officially picked up anyways.

Some =/= all

You can acknowledge the bad without painting the whole canvas with it.

Well, of those three fanslations, two were so excruciatingly deplorable that I dropped both mangas in large part because of them. The doofuses were translating from English, so badly that I could just read the Google Translate every other sentence. Unironically, I could've done a better job.

This reminds me how the original fanslation for JoJo Part 4 was just translated from Chinese. The result was Thracia "In America" tier goofiness.

Part 5 also had a pretty bad fanslation originally that caused many people to write it off as the worst JoJo.

Anyway, I don't have much sympathy for either the case of the arbitrary price raise game or the emulator that paywalls updates and ruins Engage's loading times. It'll be what it'll be. Ryujinx is the better emulator anyway, if your computer can run it

Biggest plot twist

Don't worry about it. Truth be told I am behind on my next update as well, meant to get it out last week, but I got to distracted by preparing for, going to, and now recovering from the gaming convention I was at last weekend. Hopefully I will get it up some time tomorrow, or the day after.

Thank you for your understanding. I've been procrastinating this last week but I'll get to the checkpoint soon!

Ehhh, lets not be Irish nationalists too early, don't want to pull a reverse UK on the Scots, Welsh, and Anglish in this timeline. This shall be a multicultural empire united by faith and region!

Couldn't be me

XW4E8V5e_o.jpg

Context: I started a game as the Count of Anglesey in 769 and quickly formed Brythoniaid (Wales) and established a foothold in Lloegyr (*ngland). A generation later, the Empire of Prydain is formed and my goal of purging all traces of Anglo-Saxon culture from the islands begins in earnest.

On a related note, the Charlemagne start date SUCKS ASS! If you're not playing as Charlie with Story Events on, Asturias or as the Byzzies trying to restore Rome, Central Europe degenerates into heresies, paganism and bordergore shitshow. And it gets even worse if the Umayyads form Hispania and invade Aquitaine (this happens 99% of the time).

Speaking of the Iberian peninsula, I returned to my Portugal save and managed to become a saint with my third character. I think this will be my first time going until the game ends in the year 1453.

Neither localizations nor fanslations are ever perfect - I can think of plenty of examples of both fucking up off the top of my head - because they're all made by human beings who have their own opinions and preferences

And thus shouldn't be immune to criticism

23 minutes ago, Saint Rubenio said:

I tend to be more lenient with fanslations because they're made by people who aren't paid, strictly out of love for the product, and who can be reached.

same honestly - and the community around fangroups is always a vibe - and good ones do research and increase cultural knowledge without removing/changing stuff, and interact with the community. That helps aloooooooooooooooooot.

Like, often in manga spaces, fan translation are accompanied by notes explaining why they translated stuff that way, or how stuff is perceived in different cultures the story might be referring to, or trying to get the og charm as close as possbile, instead of just americanizing it.

Or in one of the groups i am in atm, a group is translating a novel, and we have people from all over the worlds, including jp. Fun interactions, you learn about other people/cultures, fandom communities in other countries, you don't have to worry about changes/censorship/whatever because we're all here out of love of the product, and not to hate on fans or to "change stuff for the better" ™️ , or to "fix inferior jp culture". Questions aren't met with hostility, etc.

Or a few years back i proofread and playtested a fantranslation of a game - wasn't high quality, and infact, we told people to wait for a better translations (which we weren't even sure at the time was in the works - only quite a bit later), but we all did our best and out of love more than anything.

Sony has the opportunity to provide it's American workers with the same benefits but because it's not required by law, they just didn't.

It needs quite a bit more than mild nowadays to keep going.

Heck, i am even jumping on the german translation for some manga because the official english one is even slower and i really hate reading Manga in german.

California at least (where Sony America is located) mandates you let employees know 60 days in advance they're being laid off. Which is...... something I guess. Severance packages are up to the employers.

I'm curious, it was brought up for Spanish but is there discourse between Brazilian Portuguese dubs and Original Portuguese like how it is with Spanish?

I know that people here mock the hell out of the PT-PT dub of Dragon Ball Z, especially because PT-BR is one of the best.

Did we forget Soleil

Yeah i agree the og was bad. Real bad - and the change is most likely for the better

Still would've rather had the original and them getting rightfully blasted over it

Especially since even localized Soleil is still creepy

Debatable, even in a vacuum. Overall, i'll still say localized is worse. Corrin turns lesbians straight now.

Not much, I mean, coincidentaly, I live in portugal now so I see people talk in Original Portuguese, there's a big rivalry between here and Brasil in terms of slangs, having different words for the same thing and each finding the word the other people use stupid, how some letters should sound, brazillians and portugueses not understanding each other's accents (it's way more different than american vs british accent) and other real life things, but in terms of translations between the two, not much. Things are hardly translated to portuguese from portugal (I mean, the most famous manga have official translations- likely not many fan transaltions for anything though- but I never read a manga in portuguese form portugal so i don't know how accurate it is, but they likely translate it from english nowadays anyway), they mostly read fan translations (also a lot of videos, etc) from Brasil if they need any (to the point where some of them even use some brazilian slang, while on Brasil I've never heard slang or word from Portugal before moving here) because a lot more content is made there. In Portugal you don't see movies being dubbed too (only kid movies and some cartoons) and people absolutely never watch dubbed anime (again only super famous and older anime like One Piece and Dragon Ball get portuguese from portugal dubs, and my friends all said that it's shit and sounds like gay porn lol), anime dubs in Brasil are being less and less frequent (major animes like BNHA don't have a dub yet as far as I know, neither does the newest Hunter x Hunter anime and I think the newer One Piece episodes stopped being dubbed some years ago, while 15 years ago most relatively famous animes had a dub). Games literally never have a localization in portuguese from portugal either, some have in portuguese from Brasil and that's it. The reason for all of this is that most people have an ok understanding of english in portugal (along with the giantic amount of brazilian fan content, along with the fact that otaku culture only started being a major thing here some years ago so there's no old fantranslations from portugal either) while in Brasil it's not everyone that is good at english AND on top pf that there's a bunch of people learning japanese there and harcore otakus since a lot of time agot (I'd bet at least since the 90's/2000's) so there was always somone that translated underdog mangas directly from japanese to portuguese (while nowadays a bunch of translations are made from english too) and there had to be dubs for everything cause a bunch of people refuse to watch subs (that's stopping nowadays though, as I said before, a bunch of mainstream anime is not getting a brazilian dub). Eh, ended up writing a whole essay on the matter but that's it.

Boku no Hero recebeu uma dublagem aqui em 2020, houve até polêmica envolvendo as escalações. Crunchyroll e Funimation têm dublado muitos animes recentemente.

In either case the main problem was the writers lampshading gayness while refusing to actually add aside from two characters and only with Corrin.

Personally if feel that if you're gonna make a game where the player gets to decide who marries who, you should just make everyone bisexual at that point, why limit yourself, they're gonna write fanfiction about it anyways.

This is one of those games where I'm willing to bet at least a quarter of regular players never play all the way to the end.

The next game will be either Johto or Unova related-- By Arceus, it's Zygarde with a steel chair!

I am pleased to be getting a new Legends game, though the biggest surprise is that it's releasing next year. Could Game Freak be taking their time for once? I wasn't expecting them to, but maybe they'll save Gen X for the 30th anniversary in 2026.

Yeah it's just the Xenoblade 2 curse at this point. Accuse it of being coomer bait and the game will strike back.

As someone who does play 769!Asturias... yeah. But it's only the beginning that's rough, and Umayyad tend to Holy War on Charlie, which makes it easy to double-team them to Reconquista.

This reminds me, my last 769 run I did tried to bother ensuring the world didn't end up too much of a mess. Led to weird stuff like culturally Egyptian Iceland, France doing the Norman reverse on Scandinavia, Byzantine Empire reaching the Baltic Sea, etc.
