I don't know. I got the impression that the player was meant to figure this out in like 5 minutes. I mean, there is never a huge reveal scene about her identity. The only reveal scene is about why she is there, not who she actually is.

But the 'reveal' has its own precedence. Since the very first cutscene in the train station where Bayonetta heard Father Balder saying 'My seet dear child', then you protect Cereza by mid game and figure out she actually sees the angels and the Laguna with her glasses, while Luka doesn't; that and the dialogues about the original Mummy and Daddy. And in the final scene it is just confirmed when Cereza says let's go to see Daddy at Ithavol Building. That, and Bayonetta figuring out Balder is her father is just the confirmation of a suspicion seeded in the player since the very beginning of her quest to understand her past.

I think the reveal comes after the final battle with Jeanne. Can't remember personally if I'd figured it out by that point. Though I remember for quite a while that I was split between thinking Bayonetta or Cereza was the child of both clans. Given Bayonetta's memory loss her actually having a kid and not knowing about it was perfectly possible.

What I got from Jeanne's battle was the revelation of Red's true intentions of training Cereza, she had no ill intention, she just wanted to protect her Umbra Sisters

Jotari plz spoilers

Edit: all this discussion is encouraging me to replay both games :awesome:

Sorry, wasn't under the impression I was spoiling anything since I wasn't referring to the specifics.

What I meant by that being the reveal is that Jeanne clearly identifies Bayonetta as Cereza as she's "dying" which Bayonetta reacts to with some surprise. Given that they share a name I think that's the moment both Bayonetta and the player are meant to see things clearly.

Ah true, that's the most explicit moment of knowing the truth. Also, both share the same Umbra Watch, Cereza says Mummy gave it to her while Bayonetta remembers its Rosa's gift before her death.

I think Bowser makes a wonderful father figure.

Yeah. Like how he keeps sending his son to fight against the guy that he can't even beat himself. It's heartwarming how much faith he has in his little boy.

It looks as if Bowser wasn't interested in having Jr fight against Mario until Super Mario Sunshine but once Jr took independent action and made it clear it's a path he wants to follow, Bowser decided to encourage his hobby and arm him with even more powerful weaponry in order to ensure he stays safe.

Oh. I never cut dad's 'slack', but that's me personally.

Good philosophy. Dads are parents, too

I think Bowser makes a wonderful father figure.

Adopted the Koopalings. He's a bro

She's probably a better maternal/paternal figure than the majority of characters in Smash.

Maybe, but I just thought it odd because of how sexually oriented she's meant to be. I've seen screenshots from her games... And they just disturbed me.

I can understand that, but the "sexually oriented" stuff is not nearly as bad as it sounds. Bayonetta actually has a very well-written story going for it, and as the game progresses you really start focusing on the characters' personalities rather than their looks.

I've seen people attempt to badmouth the game by equating it to porn and such by mentioning the game was once advertised on Playboy. I can assure you none of them has actually played the game.

Yeeaah, I wouldn't equate it to porn. It's not THAT sexual. Putting in Playboy is dumb though, that is just misleading people as you described. But it still is too sexual for my tastes. I mean, it IS M rated as well and I prefer to stay away from M rated stuff.

The tipper is easier to land and I love it. Marth can make a comeback. They buffed Ike and they added Corrin. Corrin is so much fun, I will try to make him/her my secondary. Bayonetta is cool but I dont expect myself to be playing her a lot. Good stage and OST

Yeah her games contain suggestive stuff, but I've always seen it as her being somewhat showoff and having airs of grandeur, never meant to incite to sexual stuff in all seriousness. The games have good plots and even integrate comic content.

Yeah. Bayonetta may be a sexual character, but she does everything with style. Not only that, but she's probably one of the best all around people on the roster just based on how she treats Cereza and her friends alone.

Bayonetta's D Aerial is a kill move that you have to be wary of when you're at a high percentage. I lost a close match due to this move last night.

I had a Bayonetta self destruct using Witch Time, though. It was hilarious, the player used Witch Time close to a ledge, fell off and couldn't get back on the stage. xD

I know that I saw mentions of Cloud being considered brooding. Do I have to bring up the evidence contrary to that thought? I don't care for Cloud much, but he's fine in his actual game.

Hell, he's a dork sometimes.

Cloud goes through several notable developments in Final Fantasy VII. At the start he's a bit of a dick and doesn't care much about anyone. Then after Sephiroth appears he acts more friendly because he's been with the party longer but on the whole his personality becomes 100% focused on finding Sephiroth no matter what (a phrase which usually means no matter what morally unscrupulous things someone must do but in this case it turns out to mean no matter what silly and weirdly random thing he must do). his third personality comes after the events at the start of the second disc he literally goes insane and has to some heavy self reflecting to get over his pretty justifiable angst. His final personality is the one he has in the end game where he know he wants to do good but is still a bit uncertain about himself and trying to find out who he really is which leads to him making the aforementioned dorky statements in his big speeches.

In truth we don't really see much of Cloud's actual personality in Final Fantasy VII. He's mimicking Zack and being psychically influenced by Sephiroth for a large portion of the game so it's not really him. The most we get from actual Cloud would be in Crisis Core where he's quite sheepish and boyish, which actually ties in quite well with his recovering persona at the end of VI. The brooding Cloud, which certainly exists, originated from Kingdom Hearts by taking the worst aspects of his dick moments in the first stage of the game and his depression moments in the third stage (and also as someone pointed out it was originally Vincent but for some reason they didn't bother to change the personality). This has, unfortunately, influenced the character in all subsequent appearances (though to a lesser extent in Crisis Core) most egregiously in Dissidia. Though funnily enough they actually provide an excuse for his characterisation being that way in Advent Children where he happens to have a depression poison...This has kind of turned out much longer than I was expecting it to be. I probably seem like a pretty big Final Fantasy VII fan boy right now when in reality I don't hold it in that high a regard.

I may give that series a look at. I don't play many M-rated games (depends on what it is) because I'm not too much of a fan of really bloody or gorey games, buuut...I may give Bayonetta a chance. Beside, I've heard good things about it.

I'm only a good 20+ hours into FFVII and Cloud got better after leaving Midgard (5 hours in). I kinda could tell that after the flashback scene, I could tell Cloud was just pretty dang determined to get Sephiroth, thus, he came off as someone who didn't care about much ( I mean...considering what Sephiroth did to Cloud in the flashback, I kinda can't blame him).

Also, was the flashback early on...before or after Zack?

...I plan on forgetting this and moving forward in the game......after I figure out how to get past the stupid cosmo canyon glitch (a.k.a. I'm stuck there because freezing...)

No, I'm not. But at the same time, I'm also not disappointed. I mean, it's gotta end sometime, and Sakurai and his team put in so much work already that it'd also feel kind of demanding to ask them for even more.
