Serenes Forest's Teehee Thread

That, I didn't know. Huh.

Well, not sure if that is literally true. Not like I compared the Japanese symbols or anything. But just compare the scripts of the two games that are here on Serenes Forest...

Men and Dragons once lived in harmony on this land.

However, that harmony was broken when the men suddenly started to invade. In a great war known later as the Scouring, both sides fought over dominion of the continent. The laws of nature were twisted from the vast amounts of power that were released…

The Dragons were defeated and disappeared from the face of continent. Mankind then began to spread its forces throughout to populate the land. And now, 1000 years later…

and

Once, dragons and men coexisted.

They shared a peace forged in wisdom, a peace that lasted many generations.

All that was lost when mankind disrupted this balance in a sudden onslaught.

Man fought dragon in a savage war that shook the foundations of their world.

This war was called The Scouring.

Defeated and humbled, dragons vanished from the realm.

In time, man rebuilt and spread his dominion across the land and on to the islands beyond.

A millenium has passed since those dark days ended.

The official FE7 translation is more flowery then the old fan translation of FE6, but that's about it.

...did you just trash Neptune?

All I know about this Neptune character is that she's a loli and that you all seem quite fond of her. And there's like, two hundred different versions of her that all look the same, for some reason?

So I guess I'm just trashing her on principle, due to her loliness. Lolis are all the same, a blight on humanity. They deserve vanquishment.

Hmmm... Sounds like you know more than you want to let on. XD

Principle? But you haven't ever played the games!

Only what you guys have shared, really. What even is the difference between Neptunia and Nepgear, anyway?

Look, I know that you can't judge a book by its cover, and that until one gives a game a fair shot it's impossible to tell for sure if they would like it or not, and all those really nice things.

That being said, there is only one possible result to me playing Neptune Dimension Whatever: I would hate it. Let's not kid ourselves here.

? alot, like their entire character for one. I mean, they are sisters, it isn't strange for them to be similar in some ways.

So me and the boys went to see Belle last night. This movie

MV5BOGU2Yjc0Y2YtMDU0MS00NTFiLTlkMGMtOTcx

It's basically metaverse Beauty and the Beast. An audiovisual spectacle with strong emotional beats and one of the funniest scenes in a non-comedy thing I've seen in a long time.

Ehhhh you know what? I'm going to bump FE7 above old Mystery, because at least this game has an interface that doesn't make my eyes bleed.

A very civil way to go about it, if I do say so myself.

People who like Detroit or any other David Cage game simply lose their right to call other games bad or uninteresting or whatever critical thing you wanna call it.

That's the rules.

It seems every run has that one unit. I always like Dexithea, glad she's turning out so... well, amazingly for you.

Yeah, even despite that, I liked Dexithea a lot. She's got great skills, a class that's mostly unusable normally, a nice CG and good stats to boot. I was just thinking "But I CAN'T shank drunkard mustache guy, especially since he got steal, or RICKY! But 3 axes is a lot of axes in that small of a team... AAARGH!" but now I know they all perform extremely well and it won't hinder my team too much to get all three of them on. I might have to early promote one of them eventually, but for now I'm waiting level 20 for everyone.

4 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

Yeah, Charles's problem is that he's just a regular competent flier in a game filled to the brim with far more interesting unit concepts. And Daedalus. Fuck Daedalus.

Heh, intrigued to meet the fellow now. I'll give you my impressions once I run into him.

4 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

Ricky is fun. He used to be a boring axeguy, but then they gave him staves and now he's just straight up better than Kirin, unless Kirin decides to pop off and get a million movement in her first two levels.

Oh, I didn't know he was only axeguy before. Having staves definitely pushed him up a lot in my ratings! Though, by his CG alone, I knew I would use him XD The funniest part in Dexithea and Kirin getting a million movement points is that they have a mov growth rate of 2. Condor has a mov rate of 5, but he (or she, a support with Lex let me believe they might be female) never got one in 12 levels. And I can't believe that's percentage. It's way too blessed to get 3 times in a row a 2% chance growth. Except if those are only personal growths and the class has some growth rates implemented too...

4 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

Oreades is also fun. He can be pretty insane if trained, and he gains a mount at tier 3.

I already find him insane. He's among my best axe users and has the ability to steal to boot. I never used gamble so far cause it was entirely unnecessary in any combat he went into. He's just amazing. And now I know he gets a MOUNT when his primary problem is lack of movement?! He's gonna be a god!

The problem with hacks is that they tend to be better at making fun and unique units than IntSys, so you end up wanting to use everyone in spite of the limited deployment slots. Oof.

Haha, true. I guess as a company they want to just experiment a little to stay closer to a tried and true system that won't be too divisive. Though I guess they did experiment with the sandbox-like mode of 3H. They just stayed with a few tweaks that made the units feel unique. I guess the problem is that they're compared to tooo many units. The spell system could feel unique for each character if you had like 3-4 who could use it.

And yeah, I definitely wouldn't recommend Hyperdimension Neptunia to you. I mean, I never played it, but I was once intrigued by the base concept. I took the box and flipped it over to look at the description the company gave. I was left with a fanservicey image of small digital children representing game companies. I put the box down.

It wasn't the worst fanservice I'd seen, but considering it was on the boxart and none of the characters looked older than a young teenager, it was well enough to put me off from this series forever. And I think I could've enjoyed the base concept and gameplay well enough too.

They shouldn't conflict with each other. Oreades gets a mount and bows, Ricky has staves and better proficiency with magical axes and Dexithea is a pure axe zerker. If "too many of the same niche" is your worry, fret not. They serve different purposes, all of them, even if they're all axe guys.

Yeah, move growths to be fickle like that. Have you seen the guy with the 15% move growth yet, by the way? He's amazing, use him.

Oh yeah, Oreades can pop off. He's slightly shaky at base, but if he gets a couple good levels, there'll be no stopping him.

Yes, I probably would have a similar experience. That, and Lolis: The Generic JRPG sounds like a recipy for the worst game I would've played in my entire life. I'd rather not waste my time and/or money on the extremely low chance that that wouldn't happen.

Truly the kinoest of kinos, this thing you're reading

I never said it's kino since i didn't finish yet, but it's creepy in a good way, and brought the point across really well. Could've easily been ruined considering we were busting what's basically a prostitution ring with a dash of religion, and the game could've easily went into tastelessness but it didn't (although i have a feeling playing the H-less version helped with that?)

Not anything creepy = bad writing

you in particular might like this game, actually. You enjoyed Berwick Saga, with its unique mechanics and stuff, and there's plenty of that here without any hitrate problems, to boot. Difficulty feels just right to me, and thanks to the combat system, you have to think your moves and stay one step ahead of the AI even in the simpler battles. Also, lots of suffering in the story. I know how you love that. So yeah, if at any point you have free time to play something, do consider this game.

I might check it once i finish my current batch of games and i am in a mood for SRPG again.

For now, i have 3-4 big games i wanna finish next, mainly  Baldr Sky, Yakuza LaD, Nier Automata and Witcher 3

On the topic of Nep: It's a parody, comedy game with a dash of fanservice. Some might attack them because of that, but that's literally their selling point and i wouldn't have it any other way. No game can make me laugh or smile as much. I really like the nerd humor and references Nep brings.

Wouldn't recommend to anyone else here tho, those who like that stuff here already played the games. Most of the rest will run away on the 2nd scene lol.

Also you guys overuse the word loli so much it's losing it's meaning

Parody of what? Games that have fanservice? The ol' "I'm going to criticize overused fanservice by overusing fanservice, that'll show them"?

Do I even dare ask what that second scene is?

Wait, you're actually denying it? Dude, that pink thing Neptunia is a loli. No two ways about it. It's a small child in anime style. That's the definition of loli. Do you just not like the word? What, you want me to start calling them anime children instead? I mean, I can do that if you prefer. It won't be a problem, I spent my entire TRS LP calling physic "Paces a-Hundred Yet Still I Cure."

Yeah, the magic weapon thing is actually quite interesting! It serves to put more units to use that may seem similar at first. And god, Ricky's magic mallet is wonderful.

... Right after writing that, I realized my error. Ah, no matter. I regret nothing.

Hahaha, I wouldn't see you reacting otherwise. And I think rather than in a teasing mood, I'd feel mostly sorry for you, knowing your tolerance for such things XD

Yeah, I figured it was part of their selling point, but it's really not the kind of selling point that'll get me into a game, sadly XD

Also, could you define what you consider a loli? Cause looking over the internet, I've found

- Small underage-drawn girl

- Lolita style

- Lolicon

- Not often used but still meaning xxx content with the first instance included

Or the extremely specific small built very young-looking (age unimportant) girl with a flat chest and small waist and hips acting in a very cutesy and innocent way.

I'm genuinely curious if you're adopting one of those definitions or another. It seems to have so many already, I only consider the first one cause of the origin of the word, but hey, words can evolve, and understanding each other is important.

That's exactly the problem, actually. There isn't anything even remotely interesting about him, not even something like Charles whose sole claim to fame is flight. And then there's... the other thing about him, that makes him doubly infuriating. More on that when he joins.

Clint has an 8% move growth.

And yeah, there's a guy, another armor knight, with a 15% move growth. He's amazing. Use him.
